I like them because of the fact they are sturdy as shit, they're shock proof and water proof, have excellent security, have trackpoint and the number one thing, for me, is the keyboard. Thinkpads have the best keyboards.

They're not very attractive and you can get better spec pcs (second hand etc) for the price of one, but they're the workhorse when it comes to laptops.

True. But I'm a massive fag so I have a Vaio.

Hadn't heard of them but apparently, after a quick google, it seems that they bought out the PC section of IBM. Having a look at a few models atm.

You clearly haven't been on a rush hour trains to London then.
It's basically the company that most businesses use to provide laptops. I learnt to loathe the sight of them.

Time to talk tactics. I've had the same philosophy since I started playing CM in 1998. That is, if shoot the ball at the goal enough times then eventually it will go in. I used to achieve that by playing a direct game up until FM when I found I'd be missing a lot of the long passes. The tactic I use now is a modified version of the one I used in my Godset save. It favours a passing game and allows for a lot of creative freedom, but with a no nonsense defence. It's largely been influenced by watching Brighton play since Gus took over. The formation is somewhere between a 4-4-2 and a 4-2-4. The wingers are set to get forward when they can and midfield is made up of a DM next to and MC so there are more passing options available. The strike force is made up of a solid goalscorer (ie Wochnik) next to playmaker.

I'd say these results have flattered us. The Koln game seemed to tire the squad out, but despite managing to hold Schalke to a draw and somehow score more than Hoffenheim, it felt like it was only a matter of time before we lost a game. Sure enough, Bayern demolished us. Remarkably, they only managed to score from a penalty and an own goal. I think that's the most encouraging thing, even when teams are much better than us, we seem to be able to keep them in sight. We've come from behind in a number of games already.

http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m510/phoenixrhombus/5-Table.jpg

Winning agaisnt Gladbach and drawing against Schalke means that we're still top. I'm hoping we can built up momentum in the next few games before the winter break, including in our next cup game against Hertha Berlin. I'm anticipating another loss against Dortmund, so I'd like a bit of a buffer before we return. Not that Wolfsburg and Leverkusen are easy teams to beat.

It's weird looking back at my old school friends on Facebook. Thinking about the weird circumstances I've been in, the work I've put into myself and all the people that have come and gone in the last 7 or so years. In no way am I the same person I was when I was friends with that lot and while I'm not exactly proud of who I am, I'm certainly satisfied with who I am now and the stuff, both good and bad, that's happened to me has at the very least strengthened me and made me more sure of who I am, what I believe in and what I want out of life. I honestly don't think I have any regrets at this point in my life.

But then when I look back at these people... they seem exactly the same. They're all still friends, they're dating within that group still and they all seem perfectly happy. I'm not hating on them, not at all, but it seems a bit strange to me. It looks like these people knew who they were at 13 and they held onto that. They found their friends at that point and then they all just grew up with each other and nothing really happened. They were went to college, went to uni, came back and things are exactly how they were.

It just makes me think. If I never started my ex and they didn't make it clear that they didn't want me around them anymore, would I be like one of them? Would I be happy like that? It's weird how all these small, half chance things can have such a massive impact on everything down the line. I find it somehow relaxing looking back at how it all fit together.

Sounds reasonable. To be honest, we're probably ok for FIFA nations in Europe now anyway. Can't imagine a trip to Greenland is going to go down well with eastern European countries.

That's a common misconception. They're not members of FIFA because they're a Danish dependency. They're in the process of becoming more autonomous.

So are the Faroe Islands and they have a football team. Bjork wrote a song about it. It's called Declare Independance..

Last time I was at Fratton station, I'm fairly sure I heard someone being stabbed. I was on the way back from my female companions house at midnight. I'm just sitting on the platform, I'm the only one there who's not a worker, and I hear these really loud screams. No idea what they were saying or where they were coming from mind, I had my music on. They sounded like screams of distress though. Few minutes later, hear some sirens coming past and they stop down one of the roads.

Thought you might like to know.

I had a few thoughts in my head when I started playing this save. At first I was thinking that I should sell the players which my youth prospects would be replacing. That would give me the option to boost my squad with one or two signings or maybe even one big marquee. Maybe I could sign a veteran with a troubled past who's ready to forget the sport. At first, the young players would challenge him and undermine him. Then he decides he wants revenge against his old team but wants to do it fair and square so he finds us a rich new sponsor. The kids start to look up to him and he coaches them. Then, in the final, we'd play his old team and we would win the game because one of the kids remembered a move he taught them.

Then I realised I was thinking of the film the Mighty Ducks and decided not to buy or sell anyone after all.

http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m510/phoenixrhombus/2-Fixtures.jpg

We won our first cup game fairly easily, and we landed Koln in the next round. Then, it was on to the business of the league. Wochnik failed to score in the first couple of games, which saw us struggle. The first game was something of a whitewash which was disappointing. We were away against the strongest team in the league, but if we need to win silverware, shouldn't we be pushing games like this?

Regardless, we improved to beat Mainz and Hamburg, albeit by scoring goals in injury time. Wochnik scored a brace in the Hamburg game which proved to be something of a turning point. Since then, he has scored in every game, including a hattrick at Stuttgart.

http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m510/phoenixrhombus/3-Table.jpg

An encouraging start then. Though, I still think the cup is our best bet. We're yet to play many of the strong teams in Germany; Bayern, Schalke, Leverkusen, Bremen as well as second place Gladbach. In fact, the only team in the top 7 we've played has been Dortmund. Either way, it looks like Wochnik will be our key to success.

Thanks guys. I wanted to start doing this in beta, but it quickly became apparent that match winners were selected by drawing names from a hat. I got as far as playing the friendlies and I didn't really want to waste my time when the engine was still borked. I'll give it another go now though since I'm ill and had to cancel my plans for the day. Hopefully it's better now.

You just gave me an idea.

Although with the Gareth Thomas film coming out it would be seen as direct competition. But you're right, that would be a great story.

Yeah. It's a sad story which lifts in the middle and then ends in tragedy. They could also use it to make a serious point about homophobia in football and by extension in society.
Or they could just make another film about geezers beating the shit out of each other outside a pub. Either or.

Well, fuck. Should've won that game. Even without penalties, we should've won. Same old story. At least CMS has found his scoring boots again, hopefully he can refind some form.
It's worrying though, we create so many chances but don't know what to do with them. It's a shame but it seems like there's really no strikers out there which we can afford and can slot into our system. That's what happens when you try to play attractive football at a lower level. You can't find the attractive players.

But I digress. It was an alright game of football, if a bit scrappy but that's how teams like to deal with us these days. Paddy Kenny is a hell of a keeper. Also, does Warnock just make shit up or what?

Still waiting on a good FPS designed for 5v5. Spawn with a rifle and/or pistol with a nade only. No silly killstreak rewards and of course SnD as the only game mode. Could be waiting a good while, sadly.

Best multiplayer since TF2. Free to play on PC off of Steam. You can customise the fuck out of your weapons too which is awesome. Well designed maps, good gunplay, well balanced and actually a fairly sound community. Never seen anyone call anyone a noob or whatever even. Lots of game modes.
Haven't played it in a while actually. Might rev it up this weekend since I'm on the ill side.

I think the key word in your post is "character".
Watching the underdog means nothing if we don't care about the characters involved. And you can watch a top dog fall from grace if it's an interesting character.

Raging Bull for instance isn't necessarily about an underdog, at least not in the world of boxing. Though one could argue that it's about an underdog in society.

Yeah, my food was ready so I didn't finish my point.

The point was that it's pretty easy to make a mainstream audience feel good about a little kid playing baseball. The people who play football tend not to be gentlemen. The image that surrounds it is one of violence and thuggery so it's hard to shake that. I would find it interesting if they made a film about Justin Fashanu though.

And in 2012 Infinity Ward are........... not doing anymore Call of Duty games, so what you just said is irrelevant. They hit their peak at COD 4, it slowly went down hill and MW3 is an Abortion of a game.

IW care only about money and not their game.

>Implying that Treyarch are more noble than IW.
You understand that Activision gives them their marching orders, right? They basically just get told "make this game with these things and make sure the multiplayer is polished to fuck". It's a paycheck for all three companies involved and there is no way in hell anyone could enjoy developing those games. There is no way you could love them if you were making them. By making of course I mean farting them out in a year.

It's not really when you think about it. Football and footballers live in world of cliche. Trying to write a story based in football that doesn't play up to the tropes of the genre is very difficult. That's why the most successful of recent films is the Damned United, because the audience is at ease with the character of Brian Clough because they enter the cinema with the knowledge that he's a real person. Writing Brian Clough without him having previously existed would be extremely difficult.

If you look at the most successful sports, in terms of making successful transitions to film, Baseball and Boxing are the runaway leaders. That's because there is so much romance attributed to the people that are associated with their respective sports that the writer has a much broader canvass to paint his picture with.

The trick with a good sports film is to not actually have the crux of the film being about winning or losing.

I'm not so sure. I think pretty much every sports film, regardless of the sport, boils down to a simple underdog story. That's the nature of competition. Noone wants to watch the big team molest everyone. It can only really work if you manage to make people care about the characters. Then they'll give a fuck when the underdog comes through in the end.

Looks like a male to female transsexual.

Really? And what do male to female transsexuals look like exactly?

To be clear, I object to what you're saying on two points:
1) Saying that mtf transsexuals look a certain way and the implication that therefore they are all unattractive.
2) The conclusion that that girl is unattractive because of that. Despite the fact that she clearly isn't.
