I'm getting a PS4 because I got an Xbox last time and I want to alternate it. I'll probably get whatever my friends get ultimately.

Does anyone know how to fix font rendering errors on Windows 8? I've downloaded the latest graphics driver for AMD and I've turned ClearType on, but the fonts look abysmal, especially on the Metro interface. After five minutes, even on Firefox and Chrome, the fonts look unreadable.

Without wanting to sound like a cunt, don't use Windows 8. On tablets, it's fine. On PCs it's a massive ball ache. If you can, I'd highly recommend rolling back to Windows 7. It just works better as an operating system, most of the bugs are ironed out, it looks nicer, you can actually install shit on it, it's more user friendly. We would've had a lot less calls from people trying to work from home this year if Windows 8 hadn't happened. We also wouldn't have to say "there is nothing we can do, Windows 8 just won't let you use the software".

The best thing I can suggest doing is messing with your DPI settings if you can. If that was happening to me, I'd just reinstall Windows tbh. I'd resinstall Windows 8 once more, maybe twice, and if the same shit happened I'd go back to 7.

They weight based on reviewer not by game though. Put it this way, I could start a website tomorrow, right some bad reviews, give arbitrary scores and get put on metacritic. Should my review be worth the same a review which has been written by a tried and tested professional? One who has a good knowledge of the industry, a portfolio of reviews, an editor and has gone through a rigorous interview process and passed.

That's not to say my opinion wouldn't valid, but reviews aren't wholly opinion pieces. They're persuasive. The reviewer plays the game, writes an informed review and uses that to try and persuade the reader to either buy or not buy the product. Even if they don't say it outright, that's what they're doing. Me scrawling "COD IS SHIT 17.2%" or "BLADE KITTEN IS AWESOME 96.8%" on a wall in a public bathroom isn't a review. Blade Kitten was awesome though... and I wrote a review about it.

Metacritic COULD weight reviews by game without telling anyone and might get away with it, but why? What would they gain? Nothing and if they got caught, noone would ever trust them again.

You can't add some and ignore the rest though. Plus you have publishers paying certain outlets for favourable reviews and that again bumps up the Metascore. Their weighting system is skewed by weighting places above others.

Sure you can. They have done.

That isn't what KM is alluding to, he's trying to argue that the concept of aggregation is flawed. The only thing I can think he might be using to support this idea was a report that came out saying different websites have different multipliers on them so different scores have a different weight. But that makes sense for the most part, for example if a site uses a 1-100 scale it gives a true representation of the score on metacritic, but if the site uses a five star system, like on Giant Bomb, they can only give 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, meaning their four stars is not as well represented on the metacritic scale.

With that said, it might not be what KM is talking about.

Yeah, the scores are weighted but noone really knows how. It seems to be so that the websites which have reputation for being controversial for the sake of page views don't get as high a weighting as the more "professional" sites. But if it's all weighted the same on each game then it doesn't really matter, it's just so one troll-y website doesn't fuck up all the averages.

Explain.

Well, there's nothing wrong with Metacritic itself, it's basically just a website which has lots of review links on it.

The problem is when publishers use metacritic to hold a gun development companies. Some publishers will say if this game doesn't make this score then we're taking away funding or not giving out bonuses or whatever. It ends up encouraging developers to take less risks and that kind of thing. Metacritic hasn't done anything wrong, it's just provides and easy way for publishers to be dicks.

Particularly liking the use of Gastly's pokemon card as a bookmark

I found a shit ton of Pokemon doubles I had in an old cupboard and I don't have any proper bookmarks because I'm not a massive fag so it seemed like the best thing to do. I was going to use a psychic energy one, but I didn't want it to use dream eater on me.

And that they're in their second final in 3 years. I don't actually like the Dropkick Murphys that much. That song speaks to me though. It would be awesome if I could live in Boston and go to hockey games. I've been there once and it's not really the same as watching other teams. For me obviously.
The finals going to be pretty electric though. Two Original Six teams who hadn't won anything in decades looking to win their second in the space of a few seasons. Game 7 is the night before I have to wake up at 6am or some shit to go on holidays. I guess an all nighter will be in order.

Anyone see the glove save Chara made at the end of the 3rd? It's stuff like that are why I love Bruins so much. They all do whatever it takes to win. Take the third game as well. Campbell dives to block a shot which looks like it's going in. Breaks his leg. Finishes his shift.
And Rask. I always said he was better than Thomas.

Only realised today is the Swedish National Day when I walked to the store and they were closing just as I got there. Says a lot about how pointless a holiday it is.

Hooray for meaningless holidays!

Maybe you should get a job. Then today, you would've had a day off and you wouldn't consider it a pointless holiday.

A former slave army, they fight for her because she set them free, remember?

Not really. They killed all the traders right? So she said you can stay with me or go and do whatever you want. What she basically said was "stay with me and kill folk or die alone in the desert". The Unsullied aren't exactly human anyway. She has an army of monsters.
She's a whiney whore who would be dead if it weren't for (a) her brother, (b) Drogo and (c) the dragon eggs she accidentally hatched. Shola is right, she's been given a nuke and she's having it around so she can get her own way. She's a shit leader, without honour and boring character.

Unlike Renly. Never forget.

I saw a few films last weekend when I was staying with a friend.

Iron Man 3
Cabin in the Woods
Elvira
Zombieland

Iron Man was good. The story wasn't very interesting to me but it was well acted and the action scenes were pretty awesome.
Cabin in the Woods was interesting as a concept. It was completely devoid of all meaning though and felt like more could've been done with it. Something a bit different from a horror film though which is always fun.
Elvira is a character piece about a goth woman with big hair and big tits. Obviously it was completely empty, but she had some pretty good one liners. It is what it is I suppose.
Zombieland has Woody Harrelson in it so it's awesome by default.

A nutter is a nutter. A person running over and stabbing another person in cold blood on a high street isn't an act of war. Framing it as such gives their position power and will encourage further troubles.

I don't understand how someone getting stabbed is an act of terror. If someone got stabbed outside a nightclub, would that be an act of terror too? Someone who was mental stabbed someone else for no real reason. It's incredibly sad of course, but trumpeting it up like there's been another bombing can really only be a bad thing.

Just came across this whilst on the Wiki page for Falkirk, good to know what David Weir is famous for
http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h361/Richard_Beale/3-16_zpsef619838.png

Ha, no way. My friend changed that. She wanted to see how long it would stay there.
I told about this and her reaction is "my work here is done".
