I'm sure they have a transfer committee ala Newcastle.

Strange that we're occupying 19th and 20th in the table isn't it.

Only team in the world to consistently have 2 of their first choice goalkeepers injured all the time

He is culpable but the squad he had was hopeless and needed freshening up in January which the board just weren't interested in.

His reputation will definitely be slightly tarnished in England but I reckon he'd still be able to secure a good job in France.

Think if Stones moved to somewhere like Spurs under Pochetino he'd be tremendous. He's just a liability as it stands.

England really need Wilshere fit for the Euros, Henderson/Milner/Drinkwater have looked bang average in centre midfield past 2 games. Ali and Dier are definite starters for me, as are Kane and Smalling.

Positives include Rose staking his claim for first choice left back and Vardy.

Oh aye forgot Sterling and Hart are injured.

Sub in Ali for Sterling and stick Drinkwater in the middle and Butland for Hart.

Hart

I think a midfield 3 of Dier-Wilshere-Ali would be great.

Dier is going to have bad games, defending is an old mans game and he's young. He'll be a great player I think.

If Wilshere is fit he has to play - he's been outstanding for England since the last World Cup, really. As much as people hate him.

Not sure what Walcott has done to get into the squad, either.

I'm bewildered at the fact that Newcastle churns out consistently shite centre halves. I can't think another team who has had such little quality in that area constantly for the last decade or so

Amazing isn't it?

Spent about 500 billion over the past 2 years and only bought 1 as well.

I've went for more of that, romford pele, felix yonger and baltazar king in an each way lucky 15 and a tenner on Un De Sceaux

Couldn't split Yorkhill or Yanworth in the first one so avoided it.

Think you'd stand a better chance if Steven Taylor got injured tbf.

This.

Even if it would result in John Carver playing centre back.

Listened to the game on BBC Radio 5, they seemed impressed with Colback at left back but the incompetence of the Newcastle forward line sounded almost comical. Even with saying that, an improved performance all round!

I wasn't particularly impressed with Colback tbf. He was beaten in the air for the goal after giving the foul away that led to it.

Has Jonjo Shelvey ever completed a forward pass since joining Newcastle? All i see him do last night was pass the ball backwards all first half and then he spent almost the entirety of the second collecting the ball from 3 yards away from a center back (something i've never understood and drives me mad) and then trying to hit 50/60y passes which would either go out of play or simply land on a Leicester players head.

Aye, he's got a fair few assists. And his ball for Janmaat against West Ham was a thing of beauty.

He's the only player in our team willing to pass the ball forward.

Preparing for the Championship with some Championship standard refereeing.

On the whole much, much improved performance. Leicester didn't create much - and I don't think they had a shot on target aside from an offside goal. Newcastle probably should have had a penalty as well.

I agree with this.

First time for everything.

You couldn't really appoint Pearson short term then launch him if we stayed up. He'd have to stay and he's a shit manager.

Rafa is the best we can attract, no doubt.

I think thats the key thing, I don't think the structure at a football club makes as much difference as people think. I've advocated for United adopting a similar back room structure to yours on here before (Graham Carr is your chief scout officially, but it seems from the outside he is basically a director of football?), but at the end of the day its more important that you just get competent people making the decisions. Clearly Newcastle don't have that, and its hard to see how appointing Benitez alone will address that.

Yeah, he pretty much makes all the signings. Trying to replace Ben Arfa with Cabella was ridiculous as they're both completely different players, albeit both talented. It kind of changed with McClaren and the signings of Shelvey and Townsend - but the common consensus is that Benitez wants to go back to the normal approach of managers having the final say.

I'm not so sure that'll be good given his history of buying a lot of shit while he was at Liverpool - but hopefully he can use our scouting system (which does seem moderately succesful - people like Tiote, Cabaye, Perez, Mbemba, Ben Arfa, Sissoko, Debuchy, Janmaat all came in for very little and have been relatively succesful) and make small additions.

I think the main thing is the players will have respect for him - Pardew and McClaren didn't have a particularly convincing managerial CV so when the going got tough the players were probably questioning him - something that shouldn't happen with Benitez.

Has he ever had that at any club?

Always struck me as the continental head coach type.

I dunno - but it's quite clear our model isn't fit for purpose. It's possibly a good idea if the people behind the scenes are competent at their jobs. But Lee Charnley isn't. Graham Carr hasn't unearthed any good players in a while either and it makes very little sense to me to have the Chief Scout on the board.

Hopefully he keeps us up and is given time to rebuild - probably the best manager we could have attracted.

That said, he hasn't met our board yet - and they love fucking everything up - we'll have Sherwood by Monday most likely.

Must have some sort of relegation clause in where he can walk away.

From coaching Ronaldo to the Championship in the space of 8 months is a bit shit for him

As with everything Newcastle it's took fucking ages, been drawn out in the media and makes us look completely unprofessional.

Ashley and Charnley really need to go.

It also hasn't happened yet, McClaren is still the manager ffs
