Listening to the soul station on GTA V really encouraged me to explore the genre, the issue is that I have no fucking idea where to start.

Obviously there's Gil Scott-Heron: (Particularly the albums Pieces of a Man and Winter In America)

Another one, you probably already acquainted yourself with is Marvin Gaye. What's Going On and Let's Get It On in particular.

My last bid would be Sam Cooke, who is a personal favourite of mine. Ain't That Good News is a fantastic album.
