#390737 2017/18 Carabao Cup (League Cup)

Yes sir, I shall be there!
I will be the lad in the Stone Island gear and Reebok trainers looking for aggro with the stewards, setting off flares and smoke bombs, dabbing every time the action comes close to our end.Sadly, there is possibly no chance of recognition unless you know how I look. You might have to stop the picture and crawl through every pixel of your Romanian live stream whenever the cameras is showing a big picture of the crowd.Random fact: We played Dale on Sky quite a long while ago (6 or 7 years dunno, only know we won 1-0 with Ryan Lowe scoring late), and it was freezing cold night so everybody was getting all cozy and shit. Two lads randomly decided to turn up as giant bananas. They were quite easy to spot tbf. However I shall not be reverting to such nihilstic tactics!

Gigg LaneThe Energy Check Stadum at Gigg Lane (honestly, that's how it's called now thanks to a new sponsorship deal).Should be a good game this. Think Sunderland looked decent vs. Derby last weekend, but I am interested to see whether Grayson plays around and makes a load of changes to mix things up. As for us, we don't have that luxury as we're having it quite badly with injuries atm. Lost Phil Edwards and Eoghan O'Connell due to long-term injuries in pre-season and now lost Jay O'Shea for a few weeks, with Danny Mayor and Nathan Cameron also out. I hope to see Harry Bunn in this, as he didn't feature last weekend due to admin stuff. Tsun Dai (who I've been raving about in the Lower League thread) should get a start, but other than that I don't know.
Fairly looking forward to this! (Inb4 1-4 walloping)

Lads in trackies giving it large are an essential part of the surroundings of football games around here, so can't really condemn that Strangely enough Grimsby doesn't even rank in my perosnal top three of absolutely crap away days in League Two, so there is that.
Saw quite a few Plymouth lads giving it on the Twitters and bigging this up as some sort of "derby" game. I quickly looked at a League One map and realized that Bristol is actually one of the nearer away days for the Plymouth lads Fecking hell, League One is a right mare of anyone from the south. Are you sure you don't want to try supporting a French team? Might be a bit less travelling involved

I am from the North West so everything more than one hour of travelling is like an away day in North Korea!
And as @Vercoe correctly pointed out, Grimsby smells like fish and is just very, very grim in general

Could have been worse. Could travelled from Derby all the way up to Grimsby only to see the game being abandoned after 20 odd minutes

Ipswich apparently had 500k rejected, so we must have paid more than that. Would quite literally blow away anything we've ever paid before. Our record signing was Chris Swailes from Ipswich, for whom we paid 200k for. And THAT was a mere 20 years ago Got Manchester roots the lad so that must have been a factor aswell
As for our game today, still work in progress but a 1-0 win. Automatisms still to be found and still tweaks to be made. Gave 8 debut starts to players today, so not everythnig clicking straightaway. I personally would like to see Beckford play alongside Maguire, as he seems to be more equipped to play in a number 10 sort of role rather than Nicky Ajose. Jermaine Beckford scored with a header, after missing a penalty early on. Second half we looked much better. Zeli Ismail and Tsun Dai came on, and everything seemd to be more fluid. Could have put the game to bed, but decided to miss yet another penalty taken by Chris Maguire. Defence looked good, and I believe with a few more games under our belt, we will start ticking at some point.
Oh, and just to put this out here: Tsun Dai - remember the name. This guy will be the next guy leaving us for better things and put big bucks in our account. 17-year-old Centre Mid from Hong Kong in his first year as a pro and looks like he's been playing for ages. Such a natural on the ball, bosses the midfield so well. A Joy to watch

Looking forward to this. F1 2016 was probably the first F1 game I actually enjoyed for a long time and I hope F1 2017 will be even better than that. I was struggling with the difficulties in career mode. Whilst easily beating all targets in practice in expert mode I just absolutely sucked on legend difficulty, if you get what I mean. Hope Codemasters fixed this somehow. Not too fussed about Monaco at night, as it just seems to be a bit of a gimmick but really excited about the classic cars returning. Love some of the old McLaren so pretty stoked to be racing some of them

Shit game, Salford better in the first half, our subs brought a bit of a change in the dynamic of the game. Trialist keeper Dean Lyness gifted their goal, Chris Humphrey was quite sheet and Tom Heardman was awful yet again (would seriously consider binning at this point). Joe Skarz was completely outdone tonight. Thompson, Maguire and Shotton looked decent, and few youth teamers looked decent.
If you want to win some money put your house on Salford winning the NL North this season. Quality all around the pitch. Signed a lad called Jack Redshaw who is rumoured to beon 2k a week (!!!). We're talking 6th division football here. Also got a wonderful new little stadium which was quite nice to visit tbf.

Finished second in the Segunda last season iirc. To be fair they got absolutely shafted by the play-offs or finshing just outside the auto promotion spots for a couple of years. Bit of a "feeder" club for Man City too. Read an interesting article about them some time ago: http://thesefootballtimes.co/2017/06/15/the-rise-of-girona-a-tale-of-late-dramas-and-guardiolas/
As for our pre-season. We won zero games in total. Drew 1-1 with Crewe yesterday with Beckford scoring again. Had two trialist keepers in Kyle Letheren and Dean Lyness in pre-season. That's all the interesting stuff from our pre-season.

Some of our fans seem to be mildly disappointed with them though, saying that none of them could replace Vaughan. Spoiled brats. We were never in a position to replace Vaughan 1 by 1 and tbh getting 1 Mil for Vaughan and 500kish for Miller and signing Ajose plus Maguire for literally fekk all, who the fekk is disappointed about that? We had striker like Lateef Elford-Alliyu, Troy Hewitt and Shaun Harrad playing for us in L1 not even half a decade ago. Given some of the players we were linked with (Novak, Blackstock, Leon Best) we could have done a lot lot worse than that

Couldn't go today mate. The pub me and my dad are running was a bit packed with the British GP at Silverstone and Wimbledon being on today, so had to help out.
Pleaased to see Beckford scored though. Important for him to get match fitness plus him finding his scoring boots early

Wouldn't mind some Jordan Rhodes or Scott Arfield for that matter. And did I already mention we had Oscar Gobern on trial a few weeks ago?
Novak would be a strange one. But again, I've been sceptical of the Leon Clarke and James Vaughan transfers too at the time of happening. I just cannot see us really spending big bucks for a striker now that we've had great success with signing struggling stirkers for nowt and sell them for big money. In an ideal world, I'd like us to go for someone like Godden form Stevenage, Akinde from Barnet or Watkins from Exeter but that won't happen. I expect us to sign someone like Novak and possibly come back for Oztumer from Walsall who we've been interested in earlier this season.
Are you coming down to the Stade du Gigg on Sunday? Should be a decent game this

Reports flying around that he's having a medical at Sunderland now, as he turned down a new contract here. 900k the fee rumoured, so yeah really no choice but to let him go. As for Miller, he's going to Boro. Fee has been accepted, which will be lower than Vaughan's but apparently could rise over the million mark with add-ons and so on. Can't begrudge both of them for leaving but it leaves us with serious work to do. Clark's been saying there were plans in store if Vaughan was to leave, so got to see what happens now

Wouldn't be so sure about him featuring for too much tbh, mate. Our striker situation is shaping up a little bit like this:
James Vaughan and Jermaine Beckford are here. No way Heardman is going to get past those two at all. Plus, we have a young lad from our own academy called George Miller who had a decent enough goal return for a 19-year old. Now here's the thing: we keep on getting bids for Vaughan in (as you'd expect) and his contract is up at the end of the season. Some S*n reporter claimed he's going to Sunderland but we have had 159 of those rumours already going round so might mean feck all. George Miller is apparently close to joining Middlesboro. HITC reported that we're selling him for 200k which is absolute dog bollocks. In any case, we would be in the market for a new striker if any of those sceanarios happen.
Bottom line: 0-0 draw at Ewood it is
