Whilst Lazazette still has good stats, 80 goals in 240 games for Arsenal isn't the best for an elite forward, hwoever even if he jsut gets you important goals here and there am sure he'll do fine.

Here's hoping you have a good season man

Only a short update to cover the start of a new season, so with last seasons wobbly form in mind, I get some players recruited to give me the best chance of at least finishing 7th.

First in is attacking midfielder Carlos Martinez

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/KHiwqPwasB8TJVOpmftqoX5mMl8Pj06NJKUsPTQr.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/GwTwM1Y31ZiYK9I3Xrr5j03isyC164FBZXjXt9gN.png

Followed by experienced forward Aldo Jamud

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nGjG5pqJ6nnf61GSMWNq1r2wPEL4BAk56zJMQq0P.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/RaixFJPszR7k2NYfVLrT5LswAK7ZgaziejvVYeUf.png

Laerte wouldn’t sign up for another loan, so I went on got Yuri on loan to replace him, and to partner new boy Jamud up top

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/3oe9sX87saBFCZBD9NOOfvBmfgUJ53CvmMi8OqLy.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/6gSPmAPcCO9mowxPOuNpaT5j7qb5ZnLeKz1Spv1x.png

Complimenting those attack minded players is center midfielder Gabriel Mello, also on loan. Are you seeing a trend here? This club has no money so I’m relying on the loan and free transfers market to bolster the team

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/VbfyFI7Akhya3ejAy6ORWyzLhGyZcO2D0tVVKIW1.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Pbmse0nlE6yMYnxyClpouT6poe8W8ohZzzfEnU8S.png

In this season preview, we’re expected to finish 10th, out of 10. No pressure then.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QsmYn0Xry6JpWgMOqJ4cdQadZrYJ1jn8NolNkl8M.png

3 days before the new season starts, we’re greeted with this news

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/rv0RGrWS7hu2vkOWIulvKJrzr56r1Mv8EC360cdd.png

So he gets injured through wear and tear? I’m unsure as to how, our club isn’t in any State Championship, and we’ve had training set to medium. Well I can’t lie I am disappointed, so it’s to the transfer market for a striker.

Which didn’t take long, as we get experienced Peruvian center forward Miguel Carrillo in on a free to replace Jamud

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/B5SMdZqbqtxeH0LOM468o7zKGBHYl8YSrAF7Itc1.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Rw1NMKdW74oFViFWBGyDh6UWvHGdWC9qrtG1R0u3.png

So with a new set of players coming in, we’re playing Ypiranga away in the first game, a team we got thumped 3-0 by in my seconed game last season. A win here would do wonders for our chances of a good season.

With 5 games to go to seal our Serie C survival, and 4 new players coming into the side to give us the best chance, I’m quietly confident we can do it. With an abundance of central midfielders, we line up with a 4-1-3-2 formation

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ptxEcBzqsXQ38wo2TO9z9JXyVJqBdS4H4o8g53kk.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/LxNgPaeDpi81QFttZxu95SCNCIqyE3UWQtO5S2hh.png

The new signings and set up paid off in a way as we held current 9th placed side Macae to a 0-0 draw.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xKSpUC8UfpK7qbguti3U9B56sleABJPvCvLlfvk8.png

Considering we’ve got 4 new players and a slightly new setup, a draw is a welcomed result as they really bossed the game.

But how bad must Mogi Mirim be, or were we just that good? 21 shots to their solitary single shot on target, and a hat trick for loan signing Laerte in his first start. If this is what the team can do, survival is only a matter of time surely? Not only that, but it was the teams first win in 6 too

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wkeDz37UUibHAn1ue8Hl3VBPyT7v69tWI1XcX7o7.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/uizPASceFFC778peAmPGjuQHgQGZqRqas5atk1v6.png

September kicked off with more wins to make it 3 from 3. A resounding 3-1 away win over Tombense with young striker Mario getting himself a hat trick, followed up with a 2-1 home win over Boa Esporte which sealed our place in Serie C for next season

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/b6udWRiIJ8P7fApIbSrcEaCglVwXf73YQuOP23tY.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/dQ2uVvi8J9yq9ZvgsjujA6wskZ5HDjEg9khyQq2y.png

Now that survival is secured, and the challenge can continue, we let our hair down so to speak in our final game of the season, as we succumbed to a 2-0 away loss to Portuguesa who had their own survival confirmed in this win. I did rotate the team a little, but all loan signings played, so I can’t be too upset at this loss

https://sortitoutsi.b-cdn.net/uploads/mirrored_images/abhRzjgZIqE4CRNRkIKTy0IcB8Zcq8A2pVL2rr8H.png

So at the end of a very short 6 months, we secured survival with a game to go, and finished a respectable 7th in Group B of Serie C, and 7 points off a play off place. We were also given the overachievers award

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Hga57wPX3OtdJQ0PrhPDYOzjJcJyEcVNAkje7zJ8.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ZOpOu7E9zT4NZFxFMdqefddEzLSHMbyPMhJwZejP.png

With that, the challenge can continue on and I can concentrate on building up some rep of my own to hopefully get taken on by 1 of the eligible clubs. Until then however it’s a case of not only matching this seasons 7th placed finish, but beating it next season.

I think with a full pre season and some serious squad building I can better this seasons finish, I kind of need to if the lowest rep league club Cobreloa are going to take me on, or even if I go into 1 of the eligible North American national sides.

Not sure where this challenge will take me next, but I’m excited to find out.

On a separate note, there is a new team to add to the tracker. As the CONCACAF Champions league for 2015/16 was underway when the game started, the game simulated the results and in the final Tigres UANL of Mexico came runners up losing to Club America of Mexico, and as they haven't won it before, they are now eligible. The opening post and tracker have been updated.

Next update will be the start of the new season and any other business.

Thanks for reading.

Here is the start of the journey, as Pavon Aurelio (thanks Brazilian name generator) sets off on a quest to bring success to a host of teams that couldn’t get the job done.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UTjHAb6wGFmxQAhK3m77v7NGMcE8HMhbW4MA15a0.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nROHb5T2DiXdLWl85BTI3nujAioLLbuPeRYWKD1b.png

As noted above, I am starting in Serie C in Brazil, the third division. This is a small club based in Sao Paulo, they’ve won nothing and the aim is to simply stay in the division. Curiously, they haven't played any fixtures in the Sao Paulo state championship, maybe they don't qualify for it? Not sure.

As I started the game in June, there have already been 11 games played, with my new club winning 1, and drawing and losing 5, to bring their total points to a staggering 8, which has them sitting in the dizzy heights of 8th in Group B

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/dgNAsu5ScMGU8PFNsTkTOemIgXqkC3PxlilUW2rM.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/z3rFk5qKxqUaf6oQcUPVV9onncls1toxnD2Csvvv.png

So 7 games left to save the club from relegation. An achievable task I think. The first thing I notice is the transfer window is open, so in come some free transfer reinforcements. First in is experienced center half Will Antwi on a free, followed by up and coming center half Marcao on loan from Santo Andre

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/sbOgOuPiicf4SuFQ6QWkpCWQ6IbTDmu7Ae6qswzu.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/A4LELNnVtNxIWLKt0ZMeCViSYl44Efnifs5TvzoN.png

Complimenting those 2 is my new assistant manager Neeskens (great name!) Pereira da Silva, as the club has 1 member of staff on it’s books, me!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/p5BFKk6Belhbyh62eI382jPxeqPlnP8YU3UDZPld.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xwOlu1z3R8yhWIllHBjgI6Go16lckKU1WgU6zLcN.png

With 2 new defenders coming in, we kicked off my first game in charge with a credible 0-0 draw against Juventude who really bossed the game, this is despite having a man sent off in the 11th minute and then another red card late on. We were lucky to get a point really.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/bketwd3qNuVgWTqiMtczRkQuFljhahE0OWCBbh3B.png

The scale of the task at hand was no more apparent than after our next game, an absolute mauling at the hands of Ypiranga, as we went down 3-0.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/t1aE2xf18yd1jgHE2HBm4fUGBHwXaTajPnMViGrK.png

From here, I decide we need to really get some players in, and make moves for defensive midfielder Lucas from Sao Bernardo, forward Laerte from Palmeiras, full backs Leonardo and Guga from Avai, all on loan until the end of the season.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wzjaSgR9eL1KsCymBOeFJGW3MTklqGu0cDhDbQ1e.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0ItAhH8E69DldDC9ZWfatPmziIRKV969W4m09Yct.png

With these new players, I’m confident we can pick up some points in the next 5 games to seal our survival.

I am really hoping we do survive, as the challenge will be that much harder to complete if I don't survive, as I only want this club to be the only non-eligible club I manage in the challenge. I don't think the lowest rep and eligible side other than Guaratingueta, the Panama national team will take me on, and unless a low rep team gets all the way to the Gold Cup final and loses, someone like Barbados or Bermuda (who are both 1 star), then this challenge won't get off the ground if I don't stay up.

Next update will be our final set of games, if we survive, and any other business.

Thanks for reading!

Bit of context before I get into it. This is most definitely going to be the last career I post on here, as I want to stick to it as for many reasons, my last few haven’t gone so well. Let’s take a look.

The real career of To Madeira. This was to be my main FM20 save, but since updating to the newest patch my laptops fans have gone into over drive mode, and makes the game unplayable. Genuinely sad as I thought 20 was really good.
.
Beating Mourinho. My main FM19 save, that came to a screeching halt half way through season 7, where the game wouldn’t let me play a Europa League game. After restarting another FM19 save, British and Irish Steel challenge I was met with a fixture bug that didn’t generate new fixtures in season 6. Gutted.

Spain HOF .Back to the journey, man A couple of short lived FM19 saves, I just couldn’t get into them, so they got canned.

The Flying Scotsman My most recent FM17 save. Due to 20 coming out, despite me saying I wouldn’t get it, I caved and got 20. Since then a new laptop has come my way, but I haven’t transferred this save over. I had actually done around 8 or so more seasons since the last update on that thread, so I may go back to it and continue posting on there.

Take me on a journey, man A great 10 season career I had, still have the file so I may come back to this.

I’ve got absolutely zero interest in touching 19 again due to game breaking bugs, and 20 just doesn’t like my new laptop.

Now that’s out of the way, I’m back to the best FM game there is, FM17. If you check out @DNZY Climbing Jacobs ladder thread, I intend to keep this FM17 thread going for as long as I can. I did actually start this challenge on 19, found here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I take zero credit for the idea behind this save, I have added some 'extras' into it though. The idea came from some great reads from a user over on the SI Forums. The threads are about the 'nearly men' of football, as in the runners up of the Champions Leagues as he takes those teams and attempts to win the Champions League with them. He's done it in Europe a couple of times and his current thread is a great read, however my thread takes place in North & South America.

The Copa Libertadores is the South American equivalent of the UEFA Champions League and since it's inception the Libertadores has seen many winners from the South American teams, and more recently Mexican sides. It has also seen 11 (up until FM17) teams get to the final but come up short. The CONCACAF Champions League is the North American version of our Champions League, it used to be in a cup format before changing to mimic our own version and has been dominated by Mexican teams, with 6 (playable) teams getting to the final and leaving as the losing side. I am including teams from the previous format of the CONCACAF Champions League for this challenge.

This thread is about those teams who have got to the final and ended up losing and haven't won it since.

I'm only using leagues that come with the 'vanilla' version of the game, so no added leagues. Due to this, there are some teams that I can't manage, such as teams from Ecuador, Paraguay and all North American countries not named Mexico or the USA. The reason for this is I've not had much luck using databases created in the editor, that's not a knock against the guys using their own time to make them, it's just I've not been that lucky and encountered game breaking issues.

At the start of the game, 16 teams have got to the final of the Copa Libertadores and have won it. The following 11 playable teams have got to the final of the Copa Libertadores and failed to win it:

1985, 1986, 1987, 1996 America de Cali (Colombia)
1978, 1999 Deportivo Cali (Colombia)
1981, 1982 Cobreloa (Chile)
1988, 1992 Newell's Old Boys (Argentina)
1972 Universitaro de Deportes (Peru)
1975 Union Espanola (Chile)
1993 Universidad Catolica (Chile)
1997 Sporting Cristal (Peru)
2002 Sao Caetano (Brazil)
2005 Atletico Paranaense (Brazil)
2008 Fluminense (Brazil)

Also at the start of the game, 17 teams have got to the final of the CONCACAF Champions League final and won it. The below 6 teams have got to the CONCACAF Champions League final and left as the losing team:

1978 Leones Negros (Mexico) This final was cancelled in real life, and the game doesn't acknowledge they have won it, so that's why Leones are eligible
1993 Club Leon (Mexico)
2002, 2003 Morelia (Mexico)
2011 Real Salt Lake (USA)
2012, 2013 Santos Laguna (Mexico)
2015 Montreal Impact (USA)
2016, 2017 Tigres UANL (Mexico) Won by AI in game
2018 New York Red Bulls - became eligible in game

The aim for this save is to win the competition the above teams failed to win. If any of the above teams win the Libertadores or CONCACAF Champions League in the game, they are removed form the challenge. Likewise if any other team, as in not listed above gets to the final of any of the competitions and fails to win it, they become eligible if they are from a playable league. I had intended to include the Copa Sudamericana (South American EUROPA League) as well, however that would bring the eligible teams at the start up to 29, and no way I'd manage to get all those in.

As a 'bonus' challenge, in it's current format the CONCACAF Gold Cup (since 1991) has seen Costa Rica, Honduras, Jamaica & Panama got to the final only to lose. I will include those nations in the game set up to make sure I can manage them. Likewise if any other North American nation becomes eligible they will be included if they are playable. The South American equivalent the Copa America there are no eligible teams as all who had got to a final have also won it. Ecuador & Venezuela haven't got to a final in real life, however if they do in game, they become eligible.

1991 - Honduras
2002 - Costa Rica - Won by AI in-game
2005 - Panama - Won by AI in game
2015 - Jamaica
2017 - El Salvador - Became eligible in-game

COPA America
2019 - Venezuela - Became eligible in-game

The only set in stone rules for this save is if I win the Libertadores or CONCACAF Champions League with a team I must leave that team. I am allowing myself to leave a team at my own free will but ONLY to an eligible team or nation. There are a total of 17 eligible club teams at the start of the game and I would expect some of those to win the competition in game and others to become eligible. I'll be as realistic as possible, I probably won't even manage all of these teams but I'll give it a good go.

Now for all of my saves I like realism to be a part of it, so with that in mind the lowest rep eligible and playable team from the start is Cobreloa in Chile's second division, who start the game at 2 stars. I always start my saves unemployed with Sunday league rep, but as Cobreloa are a semi decent sized club, I am allowing myself to start at the lowest rep club playable from the start. That club is Guaratinguetá in Brazil's third division, Serie C. I'm also starting the save in June 2016. For the purpose of the challenge, I can only leave this club to an eligible team from above.

So I think 1 of 2 things will happen, I'll either stay at Guaratinguetá long enough to get some decent rep and move to an eligible club, or I'll get sacked and hope either the Panama job comes up, or Sao Caetano get promoted in game and they need a manager. Actually on Sao Caetano, they start in the lower division, and would need 2 promotions to be playable. I think they may be the team I might have trouble with managing.

I will aim to get posts up at the very least once a week. Join me on my journey for redemption.
