Kind Champions League group indeed. As tongey mentioned, nice to see Pereira playing - I like the guy in real life, deserves more minutes from Mourinho.

August 2018 Round-up:

Upcoming Fixtures:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/aehpn2BzAZ1jotKatDr7ExERywuKW1pKYPRCpVME.png

Back to normality. August sees the return of regular competitive action, with four vital Segunda División fixtures with Uruguay's Sud América. Our last league match went very well, beating Villa Española thanks to a brace from Diego Forlán - who then mysteriously got injured days later. That was rough, but I still had belief in my other new signings. Anyway, here's how August went:
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png

Game 1: Oriental (URU) vs. Sud América (URU) (Segunda División)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/hENTImgbRi6l6lhkt0xsw8t4ahuKhfmNAtGflW01.png

Thoughts: Best possible start! Huge three points over relegation rivals Oriental, Alexis Rodríguez converting two penalties; some fortune for us, at last.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 2: Sud América (URU) vs. Deportivo Maldonado (URU) (Segunda División)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/HPHf1sZIiPkMbCZcNWMXCLvAHNEgbtkGwg8HNAGn.png

Thoughts: Ah. Good work immediately undone, critical defeat to our other competitor in avoiding the drop.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 3: Juventud (URU) vs. Sud América (URU) (Segunda División)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/YmdmvnmtYGyyCp8WA0N9PuZC8XrIzPAFP7uODvqu.png

Thoughts: Job search all but scheduled, an expected defeat to promotion chasing Juventud despite, as you can see, us dominating them. One of them games.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 4: Sud América (URU) vs. Villa Teresa (URU) (Segunda División)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/BpDyOvFCVTU66YkZ0mYuCzBNovrKS0QgZUAwTRw1.png

Thoughts: Forlán got his first goal back from injury to put us ahead, but it was meaningless as we subsequently lost all three points; despite facing ten men for forty-five minutes, a red card you genuinely wouldn't have noticed if it didn't show it to you - nothing changed at all.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Recap: Relegation is a certainty now. We aren't officially down according to the game but it's all but done with just two fixtures remaining. Off field it has been dreadful too, as shown below.

A true miracle is needed if we are to survive.

Two things to share.

A: Squad dynamics continue to be silly. After that Oriental victory (which equaled two straight wins for the first time under me), the players set three (!) meetings to discuss poor performance in the days that followed. Yet, in this current three match losing streak - not a word from them...

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Ocr6DvNZh63YCQfvfZbsFL5odCDz2H5AXvjPDmqT.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/HN5AdZMnqDQDjYC0oqx9ahifPTv2l27IjusmVj7K.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/r5hSCyAjhX0nqFOio9sexpELeI66UxibOAkMloOA.png

B: While with the board, it was somewhat roles reversed. I mentioned last time about job security, well that actually improved prior to the Oriental match. They, rightly, stayed quiet around the Oriental but have since pipped up in the aforementioned losing run. A board meeting was scheduled, ending with me having to promise 11pts from the next 5 games - that's despite only having two games left. I'm likely to fail their target anyway.
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/tYjjCPWQ5XSz5fHZJgAPs5WrAWsL9FjhXA5XwZUV.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/hMMebX2UdToL4tA0wxGgUZpKttrrIyFNVI4ATwSX.png

C: We've had board elections, with Victoriano Almeida replacing Vicente Celio as president. Almeida immediately states the new board will only judge me from when they took over, which was after the Villa Teresa fixture. Yet, my past promise with the old president is still active according to the game and the board confidence is identical. Gotta love that. At least he didn't sack me, I guess.

Top of the league and through in the Champions League. I can't ask for more than that! A really enjoyable month of football with Orlando Pirates. That's despite December actually starting poor, as we drew with mid-table Highlands Park; they were 0-2 up so we done well to take a point. We completed our demolition of Beninese team Tonnerre by beating them 9-0 again, even with our complete reserve team we didn't suffer any trouble whatsoever; a resounding 18-0 aggregate win. That set up a tie in the following round against Morocco's Ittihad Tanger.

Before we faced the Moroccans, we had two massive Premier Soccer League encounters over Black Leopards and SuperSport United; both on the road. We passed both tests with flying colours, winning 0-1 and 0-2 respectively; Xola Mlambo coming up with two goals, he was frozen out by myself at the start of the season as I wasn't convinced by him but has knuckled down and, after getting his chance recently, become a key member of my first eleven - fair play to that man! After the PSL win double, we prepared for Ittihad Tanger in the first leg of the first round of the Champions League. We returned home from the Stade Ibn Batouta with a convincing 0-3 victory, Thamsanqa Gabuza coming up big with a brace. Great win.

Days later came the big Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs, one that ended in a 1-1 draw which felt disappointing at the time but looking back it was probably a good point. Then arrived the second leg in continental competition versus Ittihad Tanger. I rested my squad like last time out, which showed as we somewhat laboured to a low-scoring tie. I wasn't fussed though, progression was all I wanted. I believe that means we are through to the group stages, which are apparently set for January? Not heard anything yet, though. December ended in the best possible way: we beat AmaZulu away from home to go top of the PSL table, thanks to other results. I think it's the first time we've been top.

It's our goal to keep ourselves in first place. It is now the 'winter break', no PSL games set until February 2019; though my next post may be sooner depending on the aforementioned Champions League situation. Looking good!

A: We are currently on a twelve match undefeated streak, which is apparently a new record for Orlando Pirates:

Shame about Forlan' injury so soon after scoring two on his debut too! A good month tho, hopefully that'll up hold now.

Must do as our next two games are huge, both Oriental and Maldonado are directly above us in the average points table. Nervy times!

Unlucky with the injury to Forlan, however 3 friendly victories and a much needed win in the league maybe the team are going to rally around in his absence? Hopefully this form continues and you get more points on the board.

Hoping so, loan signings mean we aren't solely relying on Forlan but will still be a sizeable miss.

The blasted dynamics, something I always struggle with in recent FM's!

I didn't buy FM18 so this is my first true experience of it, hopefully it won't mess me up!

July 2018 Round-up:

Upcoming Fixtures:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Dr8USPRQmrMYhiS9TDXLKzZL98kKj0AqQ3dk4UlO.png

The frustrating fixture scheduling is almost over, just one more month filled with friendlies to go before the business end of the Segunda División kicks off. With that said, I was actually OK with this month's set of friendlies as I've made a bunch of new signings to go alongside Diego Forlán's arrival so it was a good moment to allow the players to settle in.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/kon7UOvdM4IxUKfxpvXq5kmVZuCj3Ew6JK26Z8jp.png

Thoughts: July's first friendly gave Forlán his first goal for the club, with fellow new signing Alexis Rodríguez also scoring.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9FvOwKE6vbxnDCZ1bZfvTuxWJqkUYyg3FmRF9mct.png

Thoughts: Goalless draw with Punta del Este, a lower league outfit. Disappointing, but a positive performance.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/MRrVh3KujojwjY8fvR49HcAkfwZOXsZ7fS68Avmg.png

Thoughts: We hosted Argentine opposition in our last friendly, in which we had a shaky start but hit back superbly to win 4-0. New strike partners Forlán and Rodríguez netting a goal each. Good feelings ahead of the league action returning.

Game 4: Sud América (URU) vs. Villa Española (URU) (Segunda División)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/8RqBEVO5zV4suT0eyyvQ8xOd6vwnEzNcXE5EcBji.png

Thoughts: Diego, Woah! Diego, Woah! Stunning display on his league debut for Sud América, he notched a brace to send us to victory over the division's sixth place side.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
However...

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/s3CRg413UPRP64uM0IP3lJufYOHE4gUzeoQ85pCb.png

That, ladies and gentlemen, is classic Football Manager. Forlán, our biggest hope in avoiding the drop, gets injured in training days after his debut heroics and will be miss the crucial matches with fellow relegation threatened sides Oriental and Deportivo Maldonado.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Recap: Massive optimism shut down immediately. Hard to take, but that's the way this game is sometimes - just gotta deal with it. Hopefully my other new signings, who have shown promise themselves, can avoid injuries and fire us in Forlán's absence. Here's hoping!

Three things to share.

A: While collecting the screenshots for this post, I thought I'd check the board confidence. My job status, only after that recent league win, has gone down to "insecure" due to their worries over player support.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/OOJNZl4RnejEe3fbB5NjRl9w8agc6TQKQY0w02xc.png

B: ...here's the subsequent squad dynamics. Their worries are fair, but that hasn't changed since I joined. If anything, as mentioned by the game itself, the squad's mood is improving.
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/5rU9z8lqlhV1u7QcsOOQS1RHv8R513FDzM1BkRsW.png

November 2018 Round-up:

Upcoming Fixtures:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/MdsftPtbn4gBC40qdgEM7Lzh59UxsR12ITylUjom.png

November saw us face Baroka (2nd) and Bloemfontein Celtic (12th) in the Premier Soccer League, so differing tests. We had been scheduled to face Black Leopards at the end of the month, but that was rescheduled due to the welcomed start of the CAF Champions League. After Orlando Pirates finished 2nd in real life in 2017-18, they qualify for this Champions League; which we've had to wait for due to the competition's change in format irl. We'll face Tonnerre from Benin over two legs, which we are big favourites for; just leg one fell in November. We also had a few friendlies.

A positive month. Title rivals Baroka were beaten comfortably at the start of November, we did then drop points to underperforming Bloem Celtic but I wasn't too annoyed as we actually played OK, just couldn't finish our dinner. Back-to-back friendly wins were expected, but it gave us good momentum for the Champions League opener with Tonnerre where we put on a show for the locals. We put nine unanswered goals past the Championnat National club, which included some great goals. That certainly puts the tie to bed, which means I can gratefully rest my team for the second leg back on home soil. A win was always going to come, but it was nice to score nine.

I have Orlando Pirates sitting 4th in the PSL table, but it is extremely tight at the top. 1st to 6th are separated by only six points, so a strong run of form could put us right up there. I'm looking forward to December's action, which includes the first Soweto derby of the league campaign.

One thing to share.

A: That 0-9 victory was a new record for the club, passing their past best of 9-1 over Cemforce:

Massive frustration when that happens, stunning form nevertheless! Hard luck, still an excellent season given PSM were 12th when you took over!

Oh my days, Diego Forlan! Let's hope he can bring his scoring record with him! What a player to sign!

Cool moment, worth the relegation alone Gonna need his goals, for sure!

What a coup getting Forlan! Hopefully gets you some much needed goals to get those average points up! What a weird structure having a league game, then loads of friendlies then another league game then more friendlies, hopefully your squads fitness levels are high though.

No idea why he accepted £100 p/w, but glad he did - gives us a slight chance if he can start firing.

June 2018 Round-up:

Upcoming Fixtures:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/V1bTRzAAWbT1YhjN9qxq64rYUNFynQAeMGILfHQA.png

Just the one competitive fixture in June, but boy was it a big one - Cerrito, a relegation rival, on the road. Some odd scheduling meant that was the league's sole match, with four friendlies being scheduled to make up for the break. In sizeable off field news, there's been a big name addition to the squad - one you'll likely recognise.

Game 1: Cerrito (URU) vs. Sud América (URU) (Segunda División)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/PHxXn9CbpkYZjLIXmdNKV8N0tij1WzXB4QwwobHH.png

Thoughts: Major disappointment, crippling defeat to Cerrito; we had to win that. I've reported Luis Morales to the authorities for match-fixing after his eighth-minute straight red card, what an absolute imbecile! We never recovered from that, Cerrito were bang average but took their chance.

Thoughts: Friendly number one ended in a penalty shoot-out defeat to lower league El Tanque Sisley.

Recap: Well, that was a lot of fun; thoroughly enjoyed that... Dreadful month of action, our friendly form was hit hard by that huge Cerrito loss. Losing three friendlies all on penalties to lower league opposition, yet then go and beat a top division team in our finale. Bizarre! The fact all our friendlies went to a shoot-out probably shows you how bad we are in front of goal, in defence not quite so bad. Next month it's more of the similar, three friendlies to go along with just one Segunda División match. Annoying.

The eagle eyed readers may have noticed who the previously mentioned big name signing is, but for those who didn't:

Diego Forlán has arrived. Yes, really. I mean, he may be 39 years old but we got him on a bargain of £100 p/w - madness. Worth a punt, I can guarantee he won't be worse than what we've currently got.
