Gretna would, of course, need to be moved into Scottish League 2 before running the career.

Is there not a custom DB doing the rounds that opens up the Scottish Pyramid system for the Lower Leagues? Was sure I saw one somewhere.

Portsmouth have one foot in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy National Final with a 3-1 Area Final first-leg win over Swindon Town at Fratton Park.

Fran Yeste scored his first goal in the competition early on when he rifled a 25-yard strike beyond Wesley Foderingham.

Steven Elliott caught a Tomas Cywka ball on-the-bounce to strike the second before Swindon's Lee Cox headed into his own net to almost put the game beyond doubt.

The visitors found it difficult to trouble the home side but did manage a consolation when Michael Smith out-jumped Simon Ferry from a corner to give his side an away goal to take into the second leg.

Portsmouth manager Joe Jordan told BBC Radio Solent:

"It was a hard-fought win, I thought we were brilliant. We started strong and that will have been helped by the fact that we were at home and had the backing of the fans.

"The first five minutes it looked a bit edgy - but soon after we got the first goal and the confidence grew from then.

"We showed some really good play today and the scoreline doesn't do Swindon any favours because I felt the game was closer than that suggests.

"It's given us a two-goal lead to take into the next leg and I now need to make sure that we stay grounded and professional in the return leg. "

Disappointing draw against Torquay.

I know mate! It was such a flat game.

Worst part about it was that we had 12 shots and only 2 on target

Boss wants players focus on JPT

Confidence is building at Fratton Park following the clubs recent steady climb of the League Two table and a place in the upcoming Johnstones Paint Trophy South Final.

But Joe Jordan insists that the job is not yet done.

Wins over Gillingham and Bristol Rovers in the Quarters and Semi Finals of the competition have set the Blues up for this weeks Final first-leg meeting with Swindon Town.

And Jordan wants to see more progress when his side welcome The Robins this Tuesday evening.

The Blues boss said: “I wanted them to enjoy the semi-final result – that was important because it was some achievement and some atmosphere.

“It was everything that we wanted and I couldn't have asked for anything more from the players or fans.

“But that’s the benchmark now – we set a standard at Gillingham and raised it against Bristol Rovers.

“Now we need to maintain that focus and the players know the intensity demanded of them by me and the fans.

“If they continue to do what they've done over those last two games then we won’t have a problem.”

Pompey will face a Swindon side sitting fifteenth in the Sky Bet League One.

Jordan said: “They’re a good side. They have drawn their last two league games nil-nil, but I’m sure they’ll be looking to bounce back.

“They are a hard-working side and will be the favourites for the match.

“I know their manager Mark Cooper and I’m sure it’s going to be a tough game.”

Jordan said: “I’m a positive person, but the club was down and out. So to get here is a fantastic achievement from everyone.

“Now we just need to use that united spirit to get us over the line on the pitch and win the trophy for the fans, they deserve it after all they have been through recently.

“It’s been a slow process – probably slower than anyone realised. We've got a long way to go to completely rebuild this football club, but right now we just have to focus on each game as it comes.”

Simon Ferry has returned to training following an injury, while Sam Hutchinson (ankle) will miss the match.

Conor Coady will also be unavailable for selection as he sits out his second of a three match suspension.

Pompey are 4/1 with Sky Bet to win on Tuesday. Open an account at
www.skybet.com/pompey for great offers and to earn money for the club.

Portsmouth and Torquay shared a point in a goalless League Two draw.

Tomas Cywka wasted Pompey's best first-half chance after he lashed his shot badly wide of the far post.

Pompey keeper Abdoulaye Keita smothered Billy Bodin's effort while Cedric Liabeuf forced a fantastic save from Michael Poke from 20 yards.

Steven Elliott's close-range effort squirmed wide of the Torquay post, before Akwasi Asante's strike was deflected tantalisingly across goal for the visitors.

Portsmouth manager Joe Jordan told BBC Radio Solent:

"I thought we should have won the game although we were fairly wasteful in the final third.

"We finished the game with four attacking players on the pitch so I don't think I could have done any more.

"Scoring goals is what people come to watch football matches for...the clean sheets are always good, but they need to be accompanied with goals for the side if we want to pick up more points."

Rangers are an obvious one but I'd imagine that wouldn't be too hard to get them back into the SPL and then get the money to dominate.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it (or if the league is available) but this team could be interesting;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gretna_F.C.

Got integrated into Scottish football just over a decade ago, got from the 3rd division to SPL in 5 years, losing a Scottish cup final along the way, only to be relegated and massive financial problems left the club in Scottish non league.

Forgotten Gretna even existed anymore, would need a custom db for that one. I'll post up a couple more in the next few days, been busy with other bits this weekend.

Rangers obviously as Watson said.

Gretna are a great shout too, wasn't too long ago they were in the Scottish Cup Final! Their new club is called 'Gretna 2008' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gretna_F.C._2008

Transfer Deadline Day: Portsmouth announce 7 new signings

Portsmouth have signed 7 players, subject to Football League and FA approval.

Cheslea's Sam Hutchinson joins on-loan until the end of the season and Alan Dunne, Kevin Osei, Steven Elliot, Kamel Larbi, Oscar Ewolo and Sylvian Monsoreau have all agreed to join Joe Jordan's side.

The troubled club have had to build a new squad after successive relegations in the past two seasons and a first-half of this season that has fallen under the board and fans expectations.

So far this window the club have brought in a remarkable 24 new players, and have seen 22 players leave as the new manager Joe Jordan overhaul's the side in the hope that it will improve the League Two side's fortunes.

Jordan has been working hard throughout the winter to rebuild his squad, but has been frustrated in his attempts to find players that are available without paying excess in transfer fees or wages.

He confirmed to BBC Radio Solent on Thursday he intended to keep David Connolly as club captain, while Martyn Lancaster will continue as vice-captain.

"I can understand that the fans are worried about the volume of player coming in and out but when the player settle then we should see some improvements," Jordan said.

"But it's fantastic for us, many of these players are of a high calibre and will prove to be valuable signings when they adjust and get used to the way we want to play."

Portsmouth dented Wycombe's hopes to distance themselves from the relegation places with an easy win at Adams Park that keeps them in the hunt for a play-off place in League Two.

The Blues went in front when Fran Yeste tucked in Fode Mansaré's headed pass from close range after 18 minutes.

Mansaré then doubled the lead just before the break from the penalty spot after being clattered by Josh Scowen in the Wycombe box.

Wes Fogden's volley made the points safe with 7 minutes of the match remaining.

Wycombe slipped down to twentieth in the table, but are still nine points clear of twenty-third-placed AFC Wimbledon, while Porstmouth remained tenth only two points behind Northampton in seventh-place in the race for the play-offs.

Portsmouth manager Joe Jordan told BBC Radio Solent:

"We wanted to get back on track after the previous game and we did that well today.

"We played the game we wanted to play and we looked really solid, which was important.

"We looked a good threat at the other end and to get three different players scoring is fantastic because it helps show that we have goals that can come from more than one player or area of the pitch."

Wycombe manager Ronnie Jepson told BBC Radio Solent:

"We keep giving teams starts in games and we gave Portsmouth a two-goal start. It was 65 minutes before we started playing.

"The conditions were horrendous and they played the conditions better than we did.

"Fran Yeste adds quality and his goal was first-class. He was maybe the difference between the two sides."

Portsmouth: Colace, Cywka & Liabeuf join

Portsmouth have signed former Barnsley midfielder Hugo Colace, former Auxerre midfielder Cedric Liabeuf and Barnsley winger Tomas Cywka on loan for he rest of the season.

Colace, 30, will provide competition with Conor Coady and Sebastien Svard in Defensive Midfield.

He has spent three seasons with Barnsley between 2008 and 2011, while Liabeuf, 34, has played more than 310 senior matches during his career.

Cywka, 25, joined Barnsley from Reading in August 2012.

"Hugo has more than 100 games of Football League experience under his belt," Portsmouth manager Joe Jordan told the club website.

"He has done well at his previous clubs since then, so I look forward to working with him.

"Cedric is an experienced player who can play in an attacking midfield role so he gives us that extra danger.

"Tomas is a player I've had my eye on for a while. He's a fast, tricky winger who creates chances for others and is able to get some goals too."

More Players Seek Pastures New

The Club have announced the immediate departures of first-team players Marcos Painter, César Lolohea and Jake Jervis as well as youth team players Ashley Harris and Liam Triggs.

The departures are the latest in a long list of ins and outs at the club as Joe Jordan continues to re-structure the squad for the second half of the season.

Full back Marcos Painter joined the club in the summer and made 9 first team appearances this season but was made aware that he would find first-team games hard to come by in the second part of the season and has agreed to leave the club.

César Lolohea is a recent arrival at the club, joining only in November but the New Caledonian was finding it difficult to adjust to life in England and requested to terminate his contract early in order to football closer to his homeland.

Forward Jake Jervis is departing the club for a second time in his career, having had a short loan spell in 2012 during which he made 3 senior appearances.

Youth players Harris and Triggs are not thought to be close to senior football and the youth team staff agree that the best move would be for the lads to continue their career's elsewhere.

The club would like to go on record to thank the players for their services and wish them the very best in the future.

Sheffield Wednesday came from two goals down to beat Portsmouth in the FA Cup fourth round.

Pompey started the match well and were rewarded on 10 minutes midfielder Wes Fogden's long range shot rocketed into the net.

Connor Coady's header made it 2-0 just after the half-hour mark before Wednesday's Keiran Lee replied with a header of his own to make it 2-1.

Oguchi Onyewu added another headed goal to raise The Owls hopes and a superb Richard Brittain volley proved to be the winning goal and sent his side into the fifth round draw.

"We'd had an extremely good first half - we matched them well, defended the goal and had counter attacks.

"It was us all over, and I still thought we were in with a shout even at 2-2 at half-time."

"At 3-2 we kept going and you just don't know what's around the corner. Well done to the players who finished the game, they played on real instinct and real determination and I loved the way they played."

Squad Rebuild Continues

Portsmouth today can confirm the arrivals of three new players at the club as the board continue to back Joe Jordan in his rebuilding of the squad.

Middlesbrough defender Seb Hines, Cowdenbeath full-back and former Athletic Bilbao attacking midfielder Fran Yeste are the latest recruits to join Joe Jordan's revolution.

Centre-back Hines, 25, has spent his entire career at The Boro and joins on a loan deal until the end of the season. He is also returning from a long-term injury and it was agreed between the clubs that Fratton Park would be the ideal place for the player to build up his match-fitness. He has been given the squad number 39.

Scottish full-back Brett has also spent his career so far at one club, with a loan deal at Scottish amateur side Tranent in 2010/11 being his only time spent elsewhere. It is thought he will challenge Mike Mampuya for the right-back spot in the team and will wear the number 29.

Spanish midfield maestro Yeste began his career at Bilbao in 1996 and went on to spells at Al-Wasl, Olympiacos and Baniyas. The Spaniard will undoubtedly add some extra creativity for the side in the final third. He will wear the shirt number 10 for the club.

The Club have also confirmed that French midfielder Romain Padovani, English midfielder Michael Bridges and Venezuelan defender Joe Devera have departed the club after being deemed surplus to requirements.

Robbie Threlfall's second goal of the season helped Morecambe beat Portsmouth 2-0 at The Globe Arena.

The 25-year-old full-back fired in a stunning free-kick from the edge of the penalty area to give Morecambe the lead on 69 minutes.

Jack Redshaw sealed the win with an optimistic shot, having shooting over the crossbar early in the first period.

Pompey, who have lost three of their last four games, will be wondering how they managed to lost the game after enjoying a much larger share of possession with more shots on target.

Portsmouth manager Joe Jordan told BBC Radio Solent:

"I'd have to say for the first half I thought we were the best team. We had a couple of really good chances, but it isn't anywhere near good enough.

"We have had a lot of layers coming and going in the past few weeks but they need to settle in and quickly or we will lose sight of the play-off places.

"There's no point hiding - three losses in for matches is nowhere near acceptable for this club. There's a lot of problems and it needs sorting out very quickly."

On Morecambe's goals: "They're both good finishes but we can't keep saying they're good finishes. They're good finishes because people worked hard to go and get on the end of things and they worked hard and they ran and they chased and they picked up second balls.

"We're going to have to put a stop to this very quickly and change peoples' mentalities because all I hear about is moaning and that isn't happening anymore."

Portsmouth put their promotion challenge back on-track with a 2-0 victory over mid-table Mansfield.

Mansfield defended well until a Wade Elliott corner from the left was met by Bira Dembelé, who nodded home.

The advantage was doubled when Elliott dispossessed Lee Beevers to slot the ball past Alan Marriott.

A smart save from Abdoulaye Keita denied Bryan Prunty, as the Blues held on for their first win in three matches.

Portsmouth manager Joe Jordan told BBC Radio Solent:

"I thought it was outstanding in terms of the football we played.

"Great credit to Mansfield to come here and make a game of it.

"It shows the commitment of these players, where Abdoulaye Keita's made a few outstanding saves.

"We needed to stop the rot of defeats and we did just that with a great performance."

Portsmouth sign Luke Giverin and Bira Dembélé

Portsmouth have sealed deals for ex-Manchester United full-back Luke Giverin and former Rennes central defender Bira Dembélé.

Pompey have now signed a total of 12 players so far in the January transfer window.

Giverin, 20, is a product of the youth set-up at Manchester United and spent last season at their Belgian feeder club Antwerp where he made 24 appearances.

Dembélé, 25, began his career at Rennes but spent last season at Ligue 2 side Sedan.

"I felt we needed to boost our numbers at the back and add some real quality," said Pompey boss Joe Jordan.

"Both of the lads have great pedigree at Manchester United and Rennes, they are still young so they still have time to perfect their game."

Full-back arrives at Fratton Park

Pompey have signed Mike Mampuya on a free transfer deal that will initially run for 18-months.

The 30-year-old full-back had six months left on his contract at Livingston and the club agreed to allow him to move early.

He said: “I’ve never played at Fratton Park before and there but I have been told that there is a great atmosphere, so I am delighted to have a chance to play for the fans here.

“You can never say anything for definite in football, but with experienced people like Joe Jordan and Steve Kember here then it will only be a matter of time before we get back to where we want to be.”

Blues boss Joe Jordan added: “We sent a scout up north a couple of times to watch Mike and there has been some positive feedback.

“He’s an experienced player and has played in Belgium, Netherlands and Cyprus. That counts for a lot.

“He’s also keen to come to Pompey and be a part of where we want to go as a club.”

Mampuya started his career at Verviers before moving to Anderlecht in 1998 and then onto Genk in 2001.

While with the Belgian club, he failed to make a single first-team appearance before loan spells at KBHZ and Tonergen.

Mampuya made a total of 35 appearances during the spells before moving to VW Hamme in 2005 and then Lierse one year later.

He went on to spend time at Helmond Sport, VVV, Doxa Kat and Paralimni before moving to Livingston in summer 2013.

Portsmouth FC can also confirm that Nicky Shorey, Bondz N'Gala, George Branford and Nick Awford have agreed contract terminations and left the club. The club thanks the players for their service and wish them the best in the rest of their career's.

Wait, Accrington are/were top of the table? Such an unrealistic game.

Anyway, two poor defeats and I hope all the signings aren't disrupting the team, it's important you bounce back as quickly as possible. Where are you in the league btw?

I know mate but I hope when my new signings settle in we will knock them off their perch. I reckon a combination of new signings an trying to get the team used to a new tactic mid-season isn't helping. Squad will get stronger though.

We are sitting 10th in the league right now, 5 points off the play-off places and 14 points off the top spot. I'm gonna' post a BBC News style League TAble update later and try incorporate that in 4/5 times a season.

Thanks for reading mate

Portsmouth sign up duo

Portsmouth have signed midfield pair Anthony Andreu from Scottish Championship side Hamilton Academical and Steven Hetherington from Northern League outfit Crook.

Pompey have now signed a total of 12 players so far in the January transfer window.

Andreu, 25, is a centre-midfielder who signed for Accies in the summer, making nineteen appearances.

Hetherington, 20, started his career at Hartlepool before moving onto Rangers and Motherwell before joining The Black and Ambers.

The Blues have seen their play-off push falter after two consecutive defeats.
