Do you know if Football Manager supports WEBP format? Maybe with the switch to Unity there are some additional options? The same image saved as .webp is just 12 KB…

Ah, I see now. It'll have to do with the compression to reduce filesize. It's a trade-off, I guess.

Thanks, now everything has fallen into place.

The size of the file from website is 74 KB and the size of the file in the pack is 25 KB. So indeed such trade-off makes sense.

By the chance do you know which compression algorithm was used and what settings were used? I would like to check if similar results can be achieved by compressing the RGB and alpha channels separately.

I noticed that all portraits in recent packs have transparency artifacts.

You can check it yourself:

Download https://sortitoutsi.net/graphics/download/change/1246

Open any portrait in Photoshop, e.g. face_29.png

Apply Color Overlay effect on the layer, with black color - this will recolor all opaque areas into black, and you will see the transparency better

Similar artifacts are present on all portraits.

I randomly found this when I wanted to create a sillouette image from a photo from megapack.

What I also tested: if you find the same image on the website and download it as png, you won't see such artifacts.

Completed cut-outs can only be uploaded in png format. If a request is uploaded in webp format, it is up to the user downloading it to decide what extension it is saved as 😕

You can't choose the extension if you download a pack.

There's an issue with WEBP format.

If a user uploaded pictures in webp format, when you download them, they are renamed (but not converted) to .png

I think that's a bit harsh and not quite correct. I can see that the Bale and Marcelo ones can have their contrast and/or gamma correction tweaked a bit, and maybe even the Asensio one, but the others are either not in the megapack at all or perfectly fine.

Just a bad source was used… And pictues from better source were already in megapack… Where's the harsh…

There are plenty of youngsters and wonderkids newly added to FM21 from major clubs who have had a face added in 13.01, and others who'll be added in 13.02 etc. Up to you to decide.
