My main problem with Newcastle is the fans protest movement and how none of them ever actually use facts or logic. And absolutely 100% focused on the short term. Newcastle is the second most indebted club in the Premier League (net) after Man United, only because of the Glazer's leveraged takeover, and third (gross) because Arsenal bought a new stadium.
From 2012 - http://swissramble.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/newcastle-united-life-in-northern-town.html
People conveniently forget these things, or never bother to learn them in the first place. And then fucking pine back to the days of Freddy Shepherd, when the club was actually used as a cash cow.
Ashley has over £100m in the club in loans and is waiving interest and delaying repayment, where as Shepherd was taking fortunes out of the club, in dividends and salaries. (iirc he was the biggest paid director by miles), while mortgaging the club to the hilt.
If we had Shepherd we would have probably bought in another couple of signings, secured against future TV revenues etc, while Shepherd made sure he was well remunerated and pushed the club closer to the brink. Ashley might not be perfect but he's still being held back by the absolute mess that the previous 'regime' left behind.

We're very financially prudent now, but it's our ambition that is being sacrificed. Watching Newcastle now is boring - long ball football with the aim of finishing around 12th - any higher is a bonus. There's nothing exciting happening leading me to believe that this is only a short term measure.

I don't understand how you can be bored watching Newcastle. I've literally never been bored watching Newcastle in the league, no matter how bad the performance is, I'm far too emotionally invested. Anyway Newcastle's football has been fantastic this season according to the stats. Least long balls and second most crosses and through balls. Which is extremely impressive considering we've only actually turned up for two of the three games.

That was last season/the season before/the season before that. We needed reinforcements this summer and we didn't get any - regardless of how much money he's got in already/money he's put in the past/financial model - those reinforcements were needed. Especially upfront if things go tits up with Remy.
Paying off Ashley is the exact thing that's wrong though - we should surely be stable in the top half/midtable before he starts taking money from the club that he's put in to help revive us?
Bored is maybe the wrong word, frustrated is probably more correct. Newcastle's football hasn't been fantastic though - we were awful against West Ham, Morecambe and the 1st half against Fulham.

Repaying the loan needs to be done. And there will never be a 'right' time to do it. Fans will always think deferring the loan another year is the right option.
I know our football hasn't been fantastic, but I was pointing out that Newcastle have done the least amount of long balls, while you're saying Newcastle are a long ball team. (And also most combined crosses and through balls)

Some progress has been made but we play less long ball with Shola out of the team.
The £17M spent is arguably the Carroll cash, given the club had a very low net spend in 2011-12 until Papiss Cisse was signed. Obviously agent fees, wages and maybe a little towards the academy accounted for some of it but its arguable what we spent in January was leftover cash from that windfall.
Poe
The ticket revenue has fell because the attendances have fell, prices are very similar.
We spent heavily in January because we were in severe danger of being relegated - we didn't spend at the start of the season when it was neccesary.
Shola
Absolute balls. The main reason is Cabaye not playing.
Spurs finished fifth last year and spent £0 in this window net, so will therefore be relegation candidates?
Poe
They spent a fortune.

Still, we're currently 1-0 up.

Would have been a long time ago.

Saying that, our fixture run for October does not make good viewing for someone currently 3rd favourite for the sack.

"Ashley is showing no ambition and is willing to settle for top ten and no cups." - Newcastle haven't won a domestic cup since the 50's and have had four final defeats since - finishing those seasons in 13th or 15th. And in the past 50 years, Newcastle have finished in the top ten, 15 times.

Bobby Robson has resurrected himself to show support for the the local media! Dr. King and Jesus have also expressed support for NCJ. Hitler and Lord Voldemort have backed Ashley.
