But that's the point. Of course there's not going to be an abudance of openly gay people if the second some one comes out everyone stops points at them and goes 'look, his gay, his gay his gay, isn't it great, isn't it amazing, lets talk about how gay they are'. Yes its great that Tom Daley has the balls to come forward, but its disgusting that telling the world about your sexuality is something that is headline news?

Why would people want to come out and 'admit' that they're gay if the second they do so they whip up some massive media storm about it?

I imagine there's a plethora of athletes who just want to stay out of the limelight and don't want to come forward because they don't want to read their names in the paper everyday, and want to be known on the merit of their sporting ability not as 'that gay guy who also played a sport'.

The whole 'hunt' for gay sports people is downright pathetic and the media falling over themselves to declare Tom Daley a hero, an inspiration and brilliant is even worse. Just stop. He's in a relationship. He's happy, it doesn't matter what his sexuality is and people that are making it into an issue for whatever reason are contributing to the problem.

More people spoke about how gay Tom Daley was before he came out than now, probably.

As for the media attention, that's usually exactly what someone in the public eye wants so it makes sense to 'announce it' so to speak. Rather than get caught sucking cock in a toilet cubicle anyway.

It shouldn't have to be newsworthy in 2013.

Nothing against Tom Daley at all, good for him if it makes him happy, but the media/most people aren't writing about the prejudice that still exists today, nothing written about discrimination against the LGBT community, they're focussing on the 'bravery' of Daley coming out.

It's newsworthy because Daley made it newsworthy. Let's be clear he announced publicly that he was seeing a man. .He's a public figure and that is just the same as Victoria Beckham's publicist emailing news agencies a press release announcing the next spring collection in her fashion line. It's news today and tomorrow but after that the only people who care will be gossip magazines and the people who care about that thing. Trying to whip this into a frenzy of anti-media hatred is pushing way too far into the other direction, he's being bummed by a man, he wanted to tell people... move on.

Started a new job at WHSmith today, it's a very similar job to what I do in my other position at a newsagents so I took to it very quickly, in fact they were so impressed they made me a supervisor right off the bat.

Just seen on my FB that someones set up a Just Giving page to fundraise in the name of Sgt Alexander Blackman, some of the comments are a joke saying he's been hung out to dry by the government. Pathetic if you ask me, he knew exactly what he was doing (he said as much in the video).
