Remy has said in France that he and Pardew had a deal where he wouldn't play last season, saying in L'Equipe: "The coach Alan Pardew understood my point of view. We had nothing to play for and I didn’t want to risk getting hurt again.”

Still seems incredibly lazy.

He seemingly stopped trying from about February though. He was probably told that he'd made the French squad, and already had a move lined up.

He hasn't - he has said the World Cup is his shop window and there's been little beyond interest from a variety of clubs, including us although I doubt he will move to Newcastle.

I'd heard Atletico Madrid were considering him as a replacement for Diego Costa, as well as the aforementioned links with Arsenal and Spurs.

Chelsea don't really need him tbh. Then again they didn't really need Demba Ba and still signed him as a perennial bench warmer.

tbf I imagine all players have enough ego, that they don't think they'll be on the bench. I'm sure even Scott Sinclair though he would be able to force his way after a couple of months at Manchester City.


Anyway, Pardew is now insisting that Remy was injured. Such a strange, pointless episode.

I'd put Alnwick ahead of Woodman from what I've heard. From that though I think Dummett (obvs) Sameobi, Bigi and Abeid have the best chance. Wouldn't be surprised if we see Vuckic and Campbell leave as they haven't shown much of what we expected out on their loans. Ferguson might get a chance on the grounds that he can play left back.

Decent CAM coming through in Liam Smith who is a one to watch for this season maybe next

Most of our youth products are absolute garbage and this current lot will probably be the same. Last good one I can think of is probably Steven Taylor and even he has turned into a bit of a joke figure these days.

Krul I guess counts but he probably would've ended up decent at most clubs.

Is our youth team really that bad? Aside from teams like Southampton who are brilliant, and the big clubs who have the ability to sign loads of youth, Newcastle don't seem to be any worse than average.

Can't help put feel a lot of the fanbase are obsessed with its failings. Yeah in truth I wouldn't be surprised to see Vuckic, Tavernier, Abeid or Ferguson go over the summer, but they also seem to have a good chance of making it in the Championship or League 1 rather than at Gateshead or Blyth Spartans. And at the very least Newcastle can make around £500k each - which will hopefully be spent on more youth players.

I can't see them losing faith in Adam Campbell just yet - Seemed to be very highly rated.

I think if Campbell was going to be given a chance it would've been this year, and he'll probably leave this summer. Armstrong I want to see given a chance as he certainly has promise.

Tavernier seemed decent in the play-off games so maybe he should get a few goes, while Abeid certainly must be considered after a good year in Greece. But as for the rest... dunno. Maybe we're not as desperate in this situation as other teams (Hull City apparently can only name 21 in their Europa League squad as they have zero home-grown players) but its not the rosiest of pictures.

Apparently Montpellier want 15million Euro for Cabella and PSG want him to join up with Cabaye. Tbh I find it hard to get excited for rumours either way - if he joins, he joins, and if not, move on to another target. Assuming the moron in charge actually bids sufficient cash, which he seem to be trying to avoid again.

I don't think we've been helped by a sudden doubling of the asking price by Montpellier's jackass chairman. But at some point, someone has to tell Ashley that the cash-rich nature of this league means the definition of cheapskating has been changed away from what he wants it to be, and of course other clubs will see this plus the cash made on Cabaye as us having money to burn. So unless we spend real cash we maybe in line for trouble.

Theoretically, however, I reckon £9-10million might be enough.

As for others, West Ham insiders apparently said they offered Colback more money but he's already agreed a move to Newcastle. Be nice to see official confirmation, though - this rumour mill can be fucking maddening at times.

I thought the whole point of the current rumour mill was that Montpellier rejected a £6.5M bid.

EDIT: French press are claiming a fee of £6.5M was agreed and Cabella was all set to get on a plane to England when their chairman changed his mind and asked for us to near-double the cash.

I'm not sure why there's so much surprise about this to be honest. Nicollin's a well-known jackass and he's been very vocal about not wanting to sell Cabella to Newcastle, he mouthed off in January if I recall correctly.

Seems to originate from a West Ham fansite, claiming a club insider as its 'source' - So almost certainly bollocks. I get the impression that Colback is shopping himselg around and Newcastle and Sunderland were both willing to meet his demands, but now West Ham are now upping the stakes. it's possible that he's allowing Newcastle to match it, but I can't see that happening.

At least he's dropped his asking price from £100m. He also said he'd rather sell Cabella to Arsenal for £5m than to Newcastle for £20m so encouraging progress thus far.

Cabella is currently with the French squad I think (they have a game tomorrow), so I'd imagine the plane story is complete bollocks. Apparently Newcastle feel the deal is closer to completion than ever before.

That's the problem - there are so many stories on the same transfers arguing they're in collapse, needs more money or close to completion, and its maddening to see so much on one deal. Just hurry up and get fucking done with it.
