If you only just realised that The Sun is a disgraceful publication you may also be surprised to learn that water is wet, that bears shit in the woods and that The Pope is indeed Catholic.

How is this any different to when SkySports do it?

Why is Ross Barkley always the first sub? All he does is run around like a headless chicken, his decision making is piss poor.

Yeh saw that, Lineker's going up in my estimations a lot from following him on twitter too.

Despite being English I found it hilarious when I saw the cheeky git in the Scotland shirt, stereotypical hat and flag after Suarez's 2nd.

Certainly a win for Italy keeps it interesting but the odds really are not in England's favour.

It'd make me feel slightly better if Italy went out with us.

What's Hodgsons excuse when Costa Rica beat these teams?

If Costa Rica win it just shows our performance against Italy wasn't as good as we all first thought as the Italians really are not that good a side from this showing.

Or alternatively a good side who played well against us and not so well against Costa Rica. They've been lethargic today. They've taken Costa Rica for granted in what has been a pretty typical Italian group performance.

Also, give Costa Rica credit. Been terrific so far this tournament.

Costa Rica what the fuck? Raped two of my ten team bets, what happened to them being whipping boys?

Unsurprisingly the best teams don't always win.

The Norwegian Tippeligaen aka Costa Rica just progressed to the next round of the WC ahead of England and possibly Italy/Uruguay.

I'm glad we rejected all of the proposed changes to English football.

Based exclusively on gut feeling.

Those proposed changes are more about the future and helping Dyke's ambition of winning the Qatar World Cup. Even if they'd been implemented by now (and they haven't because the Football League was never going to vote for them), they'd have done fuck all to help England in this tournament.

I'm going to go for the tin-hat approach here...

I'm not interested in Hodgson leaving, there was a lot of positivity around the squad before the tournament and we have some really exciting attacking players who unfortunately didn't have the experience or the nous to beat Uruguay or Italy. I think we've been let down in defence, our back 4 isn't good enough and like has already been said, we don't have a strong defensive midfielder.

I'd like to see Welbeck move on either this year or next and try to establish himself as a striker, he's got the movement and the raw talent, but he's far too inconsistent and not creative enough for the wing. I'd also like to see Rodwell at a Southampton or a Swansea, he could be our 2016 DM alongside either Wilshere or Henderson. Rooney to captain the side and take on some responsibility and Gary Neville to be mentored into the head coach role for 2018, I genuinely think he could do the job, just not yet.

I think it is arrogant to discount how good Costa Rica has been this tournament. They ARE that good, they just got completely ignored heading into the tournament which meant that they have something to prove. As an American, I like watching them because they play extremely hard and fully deserve to be going on. I would've liked to see England do better, but I think the conditions in Brazil seriously hurt England.

So it looks like Lampard is set to captain the side tomorrow. Why is he even in Brazil with the team baffles me, never mind actually playing and captaining the side, nothing against Lampard he was a top class midfielder in his day, but what's happened to Lampard happens to all ageing players, there legs go and they become very slow and vulnerable, that's why I wouldn't of even took him, get a back bone Roy and start a fresh young squad, and drop Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Johnson, Baines, Jags, and play Wilshere, Smalling, Jones, Shaw, Sterling, Barkley. some of these youngsters will be around for the future and they need valuable World Cup experience.

I'd probably protect the youngsters tomorrow if I was Roy.

There's nothing much to be gained from playing 1 game tomorrow, but why tar them with involvement with a team that might not win a game, especially when Costa Rica are expected to be put to the sword, or at least in the opinion of the media before the Italy-CRC game?

Let Gerrard play, let Rooney play, let Lampard play, play Rickie Lambert upfront, James Milner, play Jagielka and Cahill, and Leighton Baines too.

For the old guard, playing a humiliating dead rubber in a World Cup they've performed poorly in again is probably the ultimate punishment

Edit: To be fair, when I say play Rickie Lambert, that is not to punish him. Rather to give him a chance to start a world cup game, he probably has earnt it over the past 2 seasons.

Milner's done nothing wrong to be fair to the lad, he's a central mid who constantly gets shunted out to the wing and didn't get a chance to play this tournament.

Nah, he's a winger, albeit not a very expansive one, but its where he's been playing his club football for years.

But yeah, he takes no blame for us being knocked out, I'm just including him for the sake of saying don't play AOC or someone like that.

I feel sorry for James Milner. Gets hammered everytime he plays. He's a good player and works incredibly hard. David Beckham was a similar type of player, didnt really beat a man, just whipped in a great ball. Obvioulsy Milner is no-where near Beckham but you get the idea.
