£27m + add ons according to anyone thats not the Mirror and those wages are from goal.
Considering we were quoted £20m+ for Baines (who Shaw is arguably already comparable to) and that Shaw is 10 years younger than him we'll end up getting decent value for money.

Exciting signings. Both a gamble, especially Shaw, but he progresses well then he'll definitely be worth the money. Great prospect.
More to come hopefully, as well as more to leave.

Comparable in a fashion such as "Shaw is nowhere near as good as Baines"
Ninja
Baines is amongst the most over-rated players in the country.

That's how we're judging talent? So Lallana is better than Silva? Or at least close in terms of ability

Its not how we're judging ability, but I don't think you can sustain an argument that Shaw had a significantly worse season than Baines last season. At 18, when neither of them play in any competition to judge them outside of England, theres not much else you can say other than the fact he's performed comparably to him in his career so far and has the potential to be even better.
Anyway, you should speak to Liverpool fans more. Lallana is world class and the best player in the league.

He could have 15 years of top-level football ahead of him. Not so "sickening" when you take that in mind.

Flash.
Left back sorted for 15 years or a hefty transfer fee when he goes elsewhere.

Wouldn't quite say a "bargain", at least not in terms of wages.
He'll be like 23 when his contract runs out, and given the ridiculous wage he's reportedly been given now, Utd will have to substantially increase that further to keep him if he does indeed become one of the best defenders in the world by then.
Would be prime age to run down his contract and join Chelsea on a free.

Obviously. It's a transfer there's always risk. Clubs have spent £30m+ on players to have them flop frequently. No more likely here than with any other one.
.verse
Our "shite" treatment of younger players has nothing to do with why Shaw didn't join, it was simply financial. £30m odd in a transfer fee alone, combine that with wages most likely in excess of £100k p/w, it simply isn't value for money when Chelsea has more pressing areas to address, while we seemingly more interested in Filipe Luis as a left back. Who is going to cost half the wages that Shaw would, while being in his prime. And to be fair, we could probably not even invest in a left back at all and make do with Azpi as first choice with Bertrand or PvA as a backup.
There's still plenty of time for him to possibly end up at Chelsea, if he does indeed step up to the level required.

Anyway, the deal is far less bad than people are making out. £27m rising to £28m wages certainly not in excess of what's being paid to the likes of Ashley Young.
I would say that over the past year transfer fees have inflated in general so in terms of going rate I would probably say its comparable to what we paid for Jones and Smalling.
Also, I think the 'being a fan' thing is a complete red herring. Plenty of players grow up supporting one club before playing for another, they'll do whats best for their career. John Terry was a Manchester United fan, and I don't remember claims that it was an inevitability he would come here.

Is this a joke about that CL final, or are you serious?
