Until Gerrard's goal, there was just no belief among Liverpool players or fans. Normally the crowd would have been well up for a night like this but everything was just so flat and subdued all round until the goal. Great free kick from Gerrard though.

They didn't deserve to get through either, Basel are a good side and should have been a couple up at HT. 5 points from the 6 games is a poor return from Liverpool.

Onto tomorrow now, forza Roma!

I don't rate Rodgers at all but they can't sack him after last season can they?

And they can't afford to blow big money again, their return on investment has been awful.

Suarez and Sturridge made Rodgers look better than he is, a lot better.
