Incredible result yesterday, arguably our most meaningful performance in years. We've been so shit vs. big teams in recent seasons so it was a real surprise to me.

Is this the first time this season Arsenal have won without Sanchez scoring or assisting?

He didn't score or assist in any of these games;

3-0 vs. City
2-1 vs. Anderlecht
1-0 vs. West Brom
2-1 vs. West Ham

It was nice to see us play so well without him, actually. He did a lot of good defensive work yesterday but Cazorla, Coquelin and the entire defence stole the show really.

City have conceded one more goal than United.

Don't get why this is going around, United's best player by an absolute country mile has been their goalkeeper, and that's been well "publicised" so I don't see what that comparison is supposed to mean. City have scored 9 more than the "best attacking lineup in the country" anyway.

Wenger got his tactics spot on yesterday, the absolute agony in watching City pump balls into the box for Aguero to battle against lads twice his size is excruciating. Mancini used to do that too, then when Dzeko comes on "lol, let's not cross anymore".

Anybody with a degree of footballing intelligence would rather have Cabella over Sammy Ameobi btw. And I'd stick Perez in over Obertan too - a good few games doesnt make up for years of awful.

I don't read too much into it, it's just a funny stat considering we have McNair, Smalling and Evans as some of our defenders. And as you say, a great attacking unit yet we're barely scoring.

A statistical analysis of Remy Cabella;

The games where he has played the majority of the match

0-2 Man City
3-3 Palace
0-4 Soton
2-2 Hull
0-1 Stoke
2-0 WBA
1-0 QPR* (Cabella subbed before goals)
2-1 Chelsea* (Cabella subbed before goals)
0-4 Tottenham
0-1 Leicester
0-2 Chelsea
1-2 Soton
----------------
WBA away is the only game where Newcastle have played Cabella and won, without taking him off before the goals happen.

He meanwhile has no goals and one assist in 20 appearances and 1091 minutes of action.

our other winger have contributed towards;

Ameobi - 5 goals (705 mins)
Aarons - 3 goals (102mins)
Obertan - 2 goals (302 mins)
Gouffran - 2 goals (1469 mins)
Perez - 5 goals (1232 mins)
Williamson - 2 goals (1186 mins)

So basically Cabella is an ineffectual winger, who is prone to giving the ball away in dangerous positions, slows down the play, chooses the wrong option far too often, doesn't cover his full back very well, is a poor crosser who can't score, who has so far played well for maybe three whole games.

Check chances created for me please. per 90 mins played as well, some of Cabellas appearances come where he's subbed on in the 89th minute with the game beyond us.

Over the past few seasons too, rather than over half a season where a very poor manager offensively mismanaged him.

Same with Obertan and Ameobi too, as both are extremely poor players. Sammy Ameobi actually crossed the ball off his own leg on Saturday, it was impressively bad.

Cabella isn't a "winger", he's a wide forward or an attacking midfielder.

Perez out wide doesn't work for me. Seems that whenever we shove him out there his influence fades.

I know Cabella's not been exactly brilliant, but he's not the waste of a shirt Gouffran normally counts, and can seem to control the ball better than Sammy Ameobi. I'm not disputing his output is less than Obertan's though, which is not a statement I thought I would say. Same with Aarons, even if he can't seem to stay fit for more than two games at a time.

That was stupid by Mirallas. Baines is the regular penalty taker and has scored 15 out of 16 in his career he is in a no win situation as if he misses which he did everyone will have a go at him and even if he scores it's still the wrong thing to do. G Nev was raging about it and seeing as Martinez took him off at half time he was too!

Why are the Everton fans booing that sub? Besic might have a good game but he is a defensive midfield player and Kone is a striker so surely they should be happy that Martinez is being positive and bringing on an extra striker!

I don't rate chances created as a stat. And I'm pointing out the games where he's been given starts and played more than half. He hasn't delivered. He's creating and scoring less than other players. Seriously in half a season I can remember 3 moments of good play.

How has Cabella been mismanaged? By being given a starting role and him being dropped because he was playing poorly and Newcastle were losing every week? Until Ameobi and Obertan were brought in and results immediately improved?

Why wouldn't you rate chances created as a stat?

Ameobi passes it to Perez who takes it past 4 players and scores - assist for Ameobi?

Cabella has created the most chances this season, despite playing considerably less than some. It's not his fault our forwards are either shit-hot or completely inept.

He's been mismanaged by playing left midfield in a 4-5-1 which is what we lined up under Pardew most weeks, regardless of how many times he said it was a 4-3-3. He was then dropped, and brought on when the game was either a) beyond us or b) with 10 minutes to go. He needed to play every week in a key role to get him used to the division so we could reap the rewards of it later in his career. Exactly the same as we done with Coloccini and Jose Enrique, and exactly why Mbiwa never made it here.

Players need to be given time to adapt, not dropped unceremoniously and not given a chance.

Carver has handed him a key role in the side, playing a very similar position and he scored a perfectly good goal against Leicester, created our two best opportunities vs Southampton and played extremely well against Chelsea. As much as I don't rate Carver as a manager, the way he has handled the creativity of Cabella is excellent.

Ameobi is absolutely useless, midtable Championship level at best.

I will be proved right in time, I have no doubt about that.

Assists and goals aren't perfect. But they're much more reliable than chances created. I imagine the guy who passes most to Andros Townsend will create a lot of chance this year.

And where has this myth of him not playing come from? He's played more than Ameobi, Obertan and Aarons and did less than them all. This is a fact. As is that we nearly always lose when he plays.

Amazing how Newcastle are bottom of the League without Cabella. He's dropped win 6 on the bounce and Cabella is the hero in all this.

A created chance is a key pass, not creating a shooting opportunity.

I doubt he's played less minutes than Ameobi either, the guy never seems to be off the pitch atm and he's probably the worst player we've had in my years of watching Newcastle.

Yes, worse than Zurab Khizanishvili.

You've also failed to analyse past seasons - Cabella is adapting to a completely different style of football.

Everton fans aren't a happy bunch. Think they wanted Barry bringing off instead of Besic.

Good result for West Brom though. Two league games with Pulis, 4 points and 2 clean sheets. Reminds me of when Big Sam inherited the mess Ince left here - first game, home win with clean sheet. Second game, 0-0 draw away from home. Proper managers.

I'd say part of our improvement for that run was not just because Cabella got dropped, and he did contribute two assists. It helped that Pardew changed his tactics for the first time in 2014 and also dropping Gouffran helped, as in a way did the injury to Tiote, who has been a liability both before and after his injury. Granted you wanna get more than a few assists for £12-oddmillion, but he's not completely hopeless. He's also better at ball retention than Sammy Ameobi, who seems to lose the ball almost as much as he does anything with it.

Before this season, we'd already seen Pardew failing to manage various attacking players well at various points so its plausible he'd fail to manage Cabella well too. I'd also say he's managed Riviere badly, or at least would if Riviere looked anything more than hopeless.

I find it ridiculous when people blame one player for poor results. It's the same with us and Wilshere, our % of wins is much greater without him in the side but it's a systematic issue, not a player one.

He's just not very good at managing attacking players bar really Cisse - who had a very average 2 years so can't really include him either.

Pardew loves players that will run for 90 minutes, regardless of quality. That is all. They are the players he'll get the best out of. Not ones with actual talent.

By way of a definition, the term “Key Pass” used in this article refers to both Opta denoted events of Assist and Key Pass, ie the final pass or pass-cum-shot leading to the recipient of the ball shooting (regardless of the outcome of the shot). - See more at: http://statsbomb.com/2013/11/assessing-key-passes/#sthash.qoO3caJe.dpuf

Erm, the polar opposite actually.

I'm bored of people blaming Williamson & Gouffran. And jizzing over Cabella on account of he's expensive and new and ignoring that he's been dropped for a reason. It's the Kagawa is better than Rooney argument, or the Hatem Ben Arfa argument.

I'm certainly not trying to blame Cabella and want him to well for the club. Just can't be arsed with the hypocrisy.

Yeah - Cisse was wasted out wide in the first half of 2012/13 and then did virtually fuck all in 2013/14.

The only attacker he really managed that well was possibly our weakest in that period in Shola Ameobi. The fact he failed to even score in the Turkish Second Division misadventure hints he was playing at a level above and beyond his actual ability. Fuck knows what led to Pardew calling him "the Geordie Tevez" in his first half-season.

Curiously, Cabella has looked better since Pardew left. Which is one of the few bright spots of the post-Pards era at the very least, even if - as was the case before he pissed off - he needs a goal threat. The potential is there at the very least.

We are booing because Besic was easily our MoM AGAIN, yet that fucking donkey Barry, the one who is a liability constantly giving the ball away stays on every game. Starting to think there is something in his contract. Barry should of come off, not Besic. That's why we was booing. Every match Martinez does the same predictable subs.
