Anyway, Louis van Gaal is resting Martial, Rooney and Smalling tonight. Could he not just rest Rooney? I reckon the team will be: De Gea, Darmian, Jones, Blind, Rojo, Fellaini, Carrick, Lingard, Herrera, Pereira, Wilson. Something like that anyway. Maybe Young at left back, he's not started in a while.

Pretty happy with Rooney being rested. I'd be disappointed if he broke Charlton's record, and these sort of games are the only ones he's going to fill his boots in.

In keeping with the theme of general pessimism that seems to be running through this thread I'm not looking forward to our game with Southampton tonight, I can easily see it being a hammering given our current form. Kevin Macdonald is a fine youth team manager but last time he was in caretaker charge we got beaten 6-0 by Newcastle before Houllier was appointed.

I remember that episode. Andy Carroll grabbing a hat-trick on his first appearance at home in the Newcastle number 9 shirt. Good times.

To think it's all been downhill for him from there.

Martial is so wonderful to watch AND WE'RE PLAYING HIM ON THE WING! Rooney can't even beat Championship defenders, he's lost the ball so many times. He's getting worse.
