Problem: my reserve is no longer playing any competition games

Hi everyone

I can't seem to find any solution to my problem on the internet but maybe someone here had the same issue.

I'm playing Nantes in the french Ligue 1. First season my reserve (the equivalent to the english u21 I guess) was playing in 4th division (that is the normal thing). But they got relegated and since then, they no longer play any games, unless I plan (or have planned) friendlies. So my young players or recovering players have a hard time being match fit, and I don't even talk about improving.

So I think that they no longer play because there's no 5th division in FM 16. But as they don't play, there's no chance they get promoted in 4th division !

Do I have a way to correct that ? I even bought the in-game editor but no luck apparently.

i haven't encountered that problem myself so i am just guessing, but i would assume that it is possible for them to get promoted again, there is probably some randomness about it, based on quality of players at that level, reputation of team etc. the teams that got promoted had to come from somewhere, have a look at what the teams that got promoted were doing the previous season. you may find that next season the team has been promoted back into that league again. one option is to make a board request to set up an affiliate club, you will be able to send players on loan there so they can get game time. you should be able to move the u21 team back into that league using the editor, but i think you will have to wait until the season is ended to do that if games have already been played.

All right, thanks for the ideas I'll have a look. However I didn't see anything in the ingame editor about which team is in which division.

i just have to correct myself, having done a quick search it appears that moving teams to leagues is not possible with the in game editor. i have moved teams around many times with the main editor and assumed in game editor would have the same features but it looks like this is not the case so i apologise for the incorrect information.

My season is only in december so far so it'll be some time before I can test the end of season reload option (saving just before end of season and reloading until my u21 gets promoted back). I don't se any other option.

Ok so no change, I've reloaded countless times the day the calendar is released and still nothing.

Isn't there anything that can be done using the editor ?

are you sure you didn't get a message inviting your u21's to a league? in that case i guess your only option is to arrange lots of friendlies, you can try setting up an affiliate club that you can send your players out on loan too also, just make sure it is a level of club, league that your youngsters are likely to get game time in, otherwise the manager there will never pick them...

Yep I'm sure. I got the invitation for the u19 only, and they have fixtures now.

if you were going to try the reload option you should of done it like maybe a few weeks or so before the calendar is released, on calendar day it is already decided which teams have been promoted, all they do on that day is announce the fixtures.

i don't know how the game decides which teams get promoted to the u21 league, does quality of players in your u21 squad influence it or is it decided exclusively based on reputation of team, who knows? you might be wasting your time reloading anyway as i doubt it is done completely at random.

in the mean time i don't think there is a way to fix it sorry, you can work around it using the ways i suggested if you want, sorry i couldn't be of more help. there are some teams in the game that don't have a reserve league by default so lots of other players have to work around this also. you can use the editor to create your own reserve league system, lots of players do that to get around issues with reserve leagues...
