Pleased for Leicester now securing CL football next season, hope they finish it off.

A brace for Origi on top of his EL goal Thursday, good to see him scoring.

LvG: "Why did Ashley Young go up front? I want more running in behind because in the first half we didn't have an attacking point. That was the reason."

So he leaves Martial on the wing and brings on Young? What?

At that point we had TFM, a midfielder, playing right back; Blind, a midfielder, playing centre back; Rojo, a centre back, playing (fucking appallingly as usual) at full back; Lingard, a left winger, playing as a #10; Mata, a #10, playing right wing; and Martial, a striker, at left wing.

It would have been less surprising if he'd gone left wing.

How can you compare Pardew to Sanchez Flores and Howe?

Palace finished 10th in the Premier League last season - Watford and Bournemouth were playing a division below. Different expectations as a result of this and so QSF and Howe have performed much better than Pardew this season. Simple as that.

Anyway, delighted for Leicester

Because their squad quality is similar? It literally doesn't matter in the slightest what division they were playing in last year. (Bournemouths maybe a bit worse overall especially with injuries.)

Overachievment should never be used against a manager - it's absurd logic. If Bournemouth have a great end to the season - and finish 10th this year - they should be applauded for an excellent season - if they finish 16th next year - they're still punching above their weight - Howe won't have become a bad manager.

I think if anything sums up van Gaal's year of going backwards, it has to be Ashley Young as a lone striker.

I love this season.

I never thought I'd see us near European competition again after last year's disaster pre-Europa campaign. Last thing I saw us win was the Intertoto Cup in 1999....

Mahrez, Kante, Vardy, Kane, Payet & Ozil are on the six man shortlist for POTY.

I'd have Mahrez, Payet, Kante, Kane, Vardy, Ozil in that order.

Id have Kane a close 2nd to Mahrez, then Ozil then Vardy

Coutinho nominated for Young player of the year, i always forget he's only 23.

Mahrez - Kante - Vardy - Özil - Kane - Payet imo

Ross Barkley and Coutinho voted for YPOTY. Jesus, really low standards this year

For having more assists, averaging more key passes per game, completing more passes per game, making more passes per game and having a better passing accuracy than anyone else in the list? In fact this season he's beaten both Ryan Giiggs and Steven Gerrard's (both 104) previous best seasons for chances created though has some way to go to match Frank Lampards 134.

Payet is a quality footballer but just because he's scored a few free kicks in the last 2 months it doesn't mean he's had a better season than Mesut

As an attacking midfielder it's his job to make chances so it's not exactly surprising that he has better passing stats than 2 strikers and a defensive midfielder is it? He should also be scoring way more than he does for someone of his ability in his position. Ozil has dropped off in the second half of the season though and you need to perform in more than just half a season to be anywhere near the POTS.

Yeah, I'd have Ozil 5th or 6th on that list. Which still means he's been very good this season, his assists speak for themselves although I agree with bmg033 that he should get more goals, should be aiming for double figures every season really with his ability.

Kane's been superb but gotta be one of the Leicester lads winning it, really tough choice who though - all 3 would be deserved winners.

Özil would've hit around 25 assists or so already if our forwards conversion rate wasn't about 2% like it was last month or so. I don't think anyone will genuinely appreciate Mesut's ability unless they watch him every game. Every game he should be getting at least 2 assists, it's quite absurd.

In regards to his goalscoring ability, he has all the technique in the world to score goals it's just his reluctance to strike the ball. This season he's been running ahead of the striker a lot more than ever before so next season (if he stays) I wouldn't be surprised if he got double digits. I don't think it helps that his confidence to strike the ball when it's on his right foot is about -10

Someone needs to tell Norwich they can score in open play, all they've done since Sunderland's penalty is try and get one themselves

Same here, but Norwich just seem so hit and miss...largely miss. Hope they manage to still stay up ahead of Sunderland, for the good of East Anglia!

Norwich getting hammered does give Newcastle hope.

A teamsheet today with Anita at right-back, a Tiote/Colback deep-lying midfield, Sissoko captain and Cisse over both Mitrovic & Perez (even if both were crap at Southampton last week), by contrast... less so.

Well that's the relegation finally confirmed then. It's almost a relief to finally have it official after being dead in the water since before Christmas. Perhaps relegation isn't the worse thing that could happen as some of the mercenaries the club spent millions on who have put in fuck all effort all season will hopefully leave and we can build a fresh new squad with some of the talented academy players such as Hepburn-Murphey and Andre Green coming through under a new manager.

... clearly my teamsheet-induced NUFC worries were ill-founded. Blimey. First win in 2 months, and I think first time we've lead a game in that time too.

So, keeps things alive.

Benitez got his tactics spot on today - Tiote was very good - Colback was excellent back in his best position - Wijnaldum and Sissoko were much improved - and thankfully Shelveywas fucked off.

Luckily survived Shelvey coming on and being absolutely shite. - hopefully he'll get a tree match ban.
