I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

So if I have only made changes in the pregame database, it will not be touched by your licenses fix?
Thanks for you fast reply btw
mons
That is correct, yes
MarcoVanb
how do I enter the nicknames of the clubs ?
es : Man Utd
Red Devils
Nkunku
The notebook-program gives weird signs to me.
Nkunku
Like SLB tot SL Benfica?
mons
By using the pre-game editor. It's not possible to change nicknames through lnc files.
Notepad works just fine for me on PC.
Yes. You'd know if you'd try it
Nkunku
I did. But i already started a save game. If i look for a hashtag (#) before a line of SL Benfica, there is none to remove.
So how can i change this clubname in my savegame?
mons
Now that you've started a save-game, you can't change the Portuguese club names, I'm afraid You could have changed them through lnc files if they were from any other nation, but there is a hard-coded licensing issue which can only be changed through editor data files..
Nkunku
Ah to bad. Already in 2020.
Does this als counts for a lot of competition names?
mons
No just for Portuguese club names. Competition, city and award names should be changeable with lnc files during a save game
Nkunku
thanks for your answers.
last question: do i have to do anything about this to make it work in my game:?
#Germany
"FAKE_NATIONAL_TEAM" 771 0
#Japan
"FAKE_NATIONAL_TEAM" 116 0
#Holland/France
"DISABLE_PLAYER_PICS" 784 0
"DISABLE_PLAYER_PICS" 769 0
#person name changes
"CHANGE_PLAYER_NAME" 1277 "Oliver" "" "Kahn"

Do you happen to know if the non permanent dbc. file called 'Licensing' only contains changes for Flamengo > Flemish.
And is it safe to delete that file too along with the 'brazil_kits' and 'Licensing2' ?
mons
Delete it too

You must not have installed it correctly on your laptop. Make sure the lnc folders only contain the 3 lnc files and nothing else.
Bearded Shrimper
the nonsense where it was once English is attached as forbidden names and the 1630 dbc screenshot that shows the file path
what's wrong in the game is that the German team names have reverted so it's BMG, Gelsenkirchen etc,
1630 inc and edt permanent are there too
mons
As suspected, you've not installed the files correctly.
Make sure you delete the 1630 dbc, edt and lnc folder and THEN put the ones from this download instead.
Tiago Freitas
I already tried to create the folder but it was no good...
mons
Download the 16.3 patch.
Bearded Shrimper
i've done all that, and the fix in the first comment but i'm still getting BMG and Gelsenkirchen in Germany.
any suggestions?
mons
If the save game was started with a pre-16.3 database, then you need to make sure that the lnc files are also placed in the 1600 and 1601 lnc folder.
If not, then I'm gonna have to ask you to post screenshots of your folders again because it's not possible to have installed the files correctly and still have that issue. There's probably something wrong somewhere...
Bearded Shrimper
yep, that's it. just a simple copy and paste of the 1630 inc folder in 1600 and 1601?
mons
Remember, you should only have those 3 files in there, and no more.
Also, ideally, you delete the fake.edt and SI_team_holland files from the edt/permanent folders.
Bearded Shrimper
do i need to delete the FM and FMC folders?
Bearded Shrimper
the names are fixed, thanks for your help mate

The club name change entries in the lnc file are already included in the dbc file. If you start a new game with the dbc file loaded, then these entries cannot be amended using the lnc file. If you want to make these changes, then you need to edit them via the pre-game editor prior to starting a save game.

The dbc file can't be opened in the editor and any changes I make in the editor don't overrule the dbc file either.
