I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

Thanks for all ur quick responses

I did exactly that!
Anyway deleting both of those files has done the trick, save game compatible too.
Thanks for your help.
mons
I wasn't sure deleting those files would mean the changes are save-game compatible; good to know it is!
Happy to hear your issue is solved too

Say i only want to make Germany call up her players, what are the files tat i need to copy, delete?
Please help! Thanks a lot!
Edit: Gonna play on latest patch(16.3) using originl db(16.01?).

after patch on my saved game-
is this normal? and has anyone else experienced this? and yes I have re-downloaded the new files and replaced them since 16.3 as I've started a new game without any issues.

You can delete all the lnc files in the 1600 and 1601 folders and just have one lnc file with the below lines included:
Did you verify the integrity of the game cache at some point? This would have seen the default edt and lnc files being generated, which would mean that the file removing the
Can you upload screenshots of the lnc and the edt/permanent folders in the 1600, 1601 and 1630 folders? I'm willing to bet that there is a fake.edt folder in either of them.

Thanks a lot! Great Stuff!

yes mons. thanks I think that's it! I had to do that to run network games after the update. ive reinstalled it but the german team is still greyed out on my old saved game
what can I do?
mons
The German national team won't appear immediately, but the real players will appear in the next instance that national teams are called up. So, wait till then and the issue should solve itself.

Correct long name of the club HamKam: Hamarkameratene, as in the original version of the game. Whoever gave you "Hamarkameratene 1918" is wrong.
I've managed to correct the cup name by editing the lnc-file, but I can't seem to make it work for the club name. Any advice?
mons
Thanks for the first one.
As for the second one, it's contained within the dbc file and so it supersedes any changes you may make to lnc files. You'll have to bear with it, but I'll make a note to change it for the next version of this file, for FM17 at this point probably...

No problem - keep up the good work.

You have installed the editor data files correctly, but not the lnc files.
The lnc files should be installed in the 1630 folder if you are using the official winter transfer database and in the 1600 and 1601 folders if you are using the default database. If you think you have installed the files correctly, perhaps you can upload screenshots of your respective lnc folders so I can see if there's something wrong in there.

My apologies -- new to Football Manager. Needed to replace existing lnc files in 1600 and 1601 with downloaded lnc since using default database -- runs perfectly now. Thanks for advice.

however in my game japan doesn't pick real players and i could not manage the national side. I'm using a japanese league patch so i can manage their club sides but somehow i couldn't manage the national side.
any chance i could get that to work?
mons
As said before, if it's the lack of players, then there's nothing much which can be done other than downloading a Japanese editor data file which populates Japanese teams. As it stands, Japanese players are not in the database due to licensing issues; I can't just create them out of thin air

Thanks in advance for answering!
jerrywang889
i do have japanese players though, the league patch has players and plus there are overseas japanese players in the original game as well
so just wondering what the problem might be

If you want the changes to take effect in your current save game, then you can edit the lnc files and make the required changes using the same method as used for other competitions.
You can change the competition names via the editor, and this will work alongside all the other changes in the lnc file. The only difference is that it won't be save-game compatible.
It's not clear from your initial post that you have applied the files from this download. If you haven't, the file does contain a fix enabling real players to be called up for the Japanese national team (similar to that for Germany). However, if the file is applied in the middle of a save-game, then the Japanese national team will only be populated by real players in the next instance that players are called up, and not immediately after the file is applied. Hope this helps.
As an aside, can you please let me know where you got the Japanese player database file; I haven't found one yet for FM16...
jerrywang889
i'm using the one from fm15, so it's not that perfect but beats not having anything
mons
I see. I thought widehawk or somebody else released a new one for FM16 and I'd missed it...

Yeah there was some file that didnt agree with yours. Works fine now

I managed to see that before you removed it I was actually going to propose some solutions
How did you manage to solve them, if I may ask, and what was the reason they occurred? I only ask so that I can keep it in mind if other users suffer similar problems...

For Malta?
Seems to be the file, Claasen has 2 files for Malta 1 file from the Steam workshop containing the 3rd tier & a separate one posted on the si forums containing the 4th tier
Choose the Steam workshop file & you get this
Choose the one with the 4th tier & you get this
If you're the same Mons from the si forums I'd use your file instead but I get an error when trying to load it up on either database "MFA Youth Knock-Out Too many teams requested from Youth League Section A (3 teams)"
What were solutions you were going to propose?
