Everton were great second half! Happy with this result, hopefully we can do our job and maybe Watford and Middlesbrough will give us an early Christmas present.

If Chelsea can somehow get £60m for a turnip like Oscar surely we can get about £25m for Oxlade-Chamberlain

I've also seen £52m mentioned as well, still pretty insane.

I'm still amazed how we watched Xhaka for however many games/weeks it was and still decided to pay £35m for him, i wasn't at all impressed with him at the Euro's and he's been worse since joining us. Has to be rated up there with the Torres/Carroll deals and one of the biggest waste of money transfers ever. Offers nothing to the team or how we try to play and is nothing other than just a hindrance who is no where near the quality of player we need in midfield, Elneny offers much more than he does.

Rojo commits a two footed foul yet again and gets away with it, Pogba scores from an offside position after Zlatan's passes it to him with his arm. Lovely stuff.

Fully deserved lead though, Palace have been shit and somehow have only had one player booked.

Joe Ledley punches the ball away and then we score but it's disallowed for offside despite Mata was three miles onside.

Add those to our goal in the first half and the officials are having a shocker.

What's going on? We've now scored 10 in a row without having to rely on winning a penalty.

Lovely clinical finish from Ibrahimovic, great play from Pogba. Fully deserved three points.

Fans of other teams, have you ever finished a game this season and thought 'the ref was alright today'?

They're normally bad, but christ it feels like they've got worse again this year. You could have replaced Pawson last night with a random number generator and it would have got more decisions right than he did.

I think there have been a handful of times since I've had a season ticket and been going regularly that I've thought the ref had a good game/I didn't notice the ref (sign of a good ref blah blah blah). I can't comment on anything other than League Two but I can say that on the whole, the standard of refereeing is appalling this low down, most of the times we've had a good ref it's been a Premier League/Championship ref who's been demoted or something.

Edit: forgot which thread this was in! The only time I'll get to talk football in the Premier League thread involving Argyle, even if it wasn't exactly what you were asking for.

I'm sure we'll have a lot of discussion involving refs when Huddersfield are promoted

Refs in the Prem are so so so so much better than those in the Championship and (I'm guessing) below.

Can be a lose-lose game for refs - a good one is usually ignored, and a bad one is usually the centre of attention.

Just seen this, come to the conclusion you're a fucking idiot if you think Xhaka is shite. Absolute baller and exactly what we need in midfield. His passing is Xabi Alonso-esque, without Santi, Xhaka is the first name on the team sheet.

Was about to back you up till I read that, get the fuck out.

He's the player to sort of do all the dirty work, be a nuisance and just break up play for the other team, a "dirty" player. Think of your Mascherano's as DM, Kante in a way etc.

He's much, much more than just a destroyer.
If you think that he's just a "dirty" player then well, you're just wrong tbh.

That is his main role tbf and yes, it's not his sole job. But that's what he was bought mainly to do, Arsenal been lacking a player like that since Vieira

Xhaka'a biggest strength is his passing ability. I've never seen as good of a passing range at the club since Cesc. He is the metronome of the team, always having the most touches and is on the ball the most in our side, dictating whether to slow the game down or speed it up depending whether we need to. Our build up play is 10x better with him in the side as he can find anyone out wide or quickly fizz the ball into Mesut or Alexis.

He does win a lot of tackles and gets a lot of ball recoveries but when he's next to Coquelin his main role is controlling the game. He is an absolute gem of a player and considering he's only 24, to have his kind of skill set at that age is very rare.

But when people find Toni Kroos overrated when he's one of the best midfielders I've ever seen I guess you'll find people who don't really understand a Xhaka type player

That is quite possibly the biggest rose tinted glasses post i have ever seen. Yes passing is his main strength, but he certainly does not dictate play or 'fizz' passes into Ozil and Sanchez. He brings most of our counter attacking moves to a stand still due to his slowness when in possession, seems to be 5 yards of the pace of the game (still), makes far to many fouls through his own fault of either being out of position or because he just cannot keep up with play. I'm still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as this is his first season in a new league, but to see him being called a gem of a player and to be compared to Alonso and Vieira is massively over the top, in fact its fucking ridiculous. He's been nothing more than very very average so far and unless he drastically improves he certainly isn't offering enough for a team that should by now be winning the league and going far in the CL.

It really isn't rose tinted glasses. He is a really fucking good player, the Everton result was the first time he's lost when he's started.

I don't know what games you're watching. People calling the likes of Coquelin & Elneny shit, sure I can see it. But anyone watching us play can surely see how much Xhaka is a great benefit to the side, especially when Santi's absent.

I personally think £35m for Xhaka is an absolute bargain in the relative market and can't wait for him to control our midfield for the next decade. Hopefully eventually gets the captaincy one day

Look how happy he is, bless him! I really hope he has the most amazing time for the time he has left, he's getting thousands of Christmas cards every day.

On another note Jermain Defoe seems to be a genuinely good man, he knows what he is to little kids and he does the role of hero so well, he's so genuine in this video.

Fucking tears man.

Really good goal from us, should be 2-0 - golden chance for Lingard.

No idea why the West Brom fans were booing, because Rondon fell over next to Rojo? Pretty pathetic.

West Brom moaning about another team being overly physical, lol.

It was bad from Ibra, but Dawson's foul on Ibra was pretty bad too. They've got away with quite a few challenges so far tonight.

EDIT: Rojo gets the ball, Rondon slaps him in the face, both get booked. Rojo is booked for getting slapped in the face. What a mad man.

We weren't even being THAT physical, Ibra aside. Rondon just decided to fall over every time Rojo or Jones went anywhere near him.

Frankly its refreshing to go to West Brom and have them whinge about our physicality.

Probably the first time in ages we've had a team thats hard as fuck and doesn't get bullied by everyone and their dog.
