Liverpool should have made a move for Ba instead of Sturridge.

Better and cheaper - makes no sense.

I doubt he's cheaper.

10.38 GMT: PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Hoarau is in discussions with another club but said the transfer is not yet official. RMC in France believes Everton and Sunderland are keen to sign PSG striker Guillaume Hoarau.

It appears Tottenham could go back in for a couple of Brazilian stars. Andre Villas-Boas in Lancenet, via the Daily Mirror: “We got in touch with Willian and he is one of the players that interests us. I like his style, but we could not reach the value Shakhtar were asking. It does not mean we won’t try again. Shakhtar are a difficult club to negotiate with as they do not need the money and can keep their players

“For Damiao, he had a spectacular Olympics. We follow the best players and youngsters. Leandro fits this profile. He has had injuries after London 2012, but he is a player that is always on our list.”

Sky Sports sources understand Theo Walcott is set to meet with Arsenal today for the latest round of talks over his contract. The striker - as he likes to be known - is of course out of contract in the summer.

This, even if he's not cheaper I'd much rather get Ba in.

And why do you people think that Ba would prefer us over Chelsea?

Knowing our luck, Ba's knee would probably blow up the second he signed, I'm happy with Sturridge

No one said he'd prefer us over Chelsea, but it seems we decided to go for Sturridge rather than Ba, but I'd say he'd go to whoever gave him more money, but also he's more likely to get a game at Liverpool.

Probably can do but apparently he'll make his debut at the weekend.

Interview on lfc website says he's ineligible tonight, hope they introduce him before the match though, could lift the fans, which in turn could lift the team

Sturridge only recovered from an injury a week ago or so if I am not mistaken.

Also, if we made profit off this (Ba in, Sturridge out) I am not too concerned. Hopefully Ferreira is next. Can't stand when Rafa brings him on, better for his to leave

You have to sign 24hours before that to be eligible to play iirc.

Angelo Henriquez has completed his loan move to Wigan, looking forward to seeing if he gets some games. Martinez seems to suggest he will.

Probably suggested Ryo Miyachi would get some too.

I'm not sure if I'm so keen on Sturridge. He's young, speedy, decent finisher, but his performances also seems to be inconsistent. And I don't like us buying young English talent, we squandered far too much on Henderson and Carroll, but then again we were desperate for another attacking player so Sturridge fits the bill.

Anyone know how much the deal was?

Most reports suggest it was £12 million. Quite a lot for a player that you could have got for free in the summer.

Yes but not much less and we need another striker now so why would waiting till the summer be of any benefit

My guess is it would be a lot less. Anyways, we are both guessing so no point arguing about that.

And Sturridge is a good player but I can't see him doing well at Liverpool, for the exact same reason he didn't do well at Chelsea. With Suarez (Liverpool's Torres [just much better]) he won't get to much time in the middle and he isn't great on the wing because he isn't a team player. I could be wrong and find out Liverpool are changing something.

We'll just play 2 up top its not exactly rocket science Suarez never stays up the middle anyway so Sturridge will be able to stay there and Suarez will be the one who roams.

Changing from one striker to two always seemed like a big deal to me. Always wanted us to try it but we haven't in a long time. :\

It could work, just depends if he can start being a team player.

£12m isn't that bad a deal. If he stays for 3-4 years and bags 10 goals a season then he's worth it.
