I can't imagine Newcastle United not having that in contracts either or the majority of other Premier League clubs who couldn't afford to go down and still be paying Premier League wages.

A Premier League centre back duo of Hangeland and Forren for Norway sounds good too. They have already established a promising partnership and with Forren's Southampton transfer going through I only think it's going to get better.
Apparently he turned down a big offer from Zenit, as the only option for him was Premier League. Several other European sides were interested as well.

I read something that said Hangeland might leave Fulham for free during the summer.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to sign a new deal, so yeah that could very well be the case.
Tbh he should just stay at Fulham, it's not like he is gonna end up at a bigger club I think. Not in Premier League anyway. As jumberto said he's not as good as he was a couple of seasons ago.

Remy would have to take an 80% cut or something in the summer anyway, to be on a Championship level wage.
Most clubs do have relegation wage clauses, but most players aren't signing purely for financial reasons while relegation remains a probability.

In the Fulham games I've seen this summer he hasn't been as good as he was.
Remy is clearly signing for financial reasons though as Newcastle are a bigger club with a better squad, a better manager and are playing in the Europa League. All he has to look forward to at QPR is a big fucking mess that will most likely end in relegation.

He's joining a club bottom of the league at the halfway stage, not at the start when anything can happen. He wants his assurances he won't be playing in a lower division next season. Its a gamble on QPR's part that this player will help fire them to safety come May, where they can once again and certainly with a little more common sense plan and build a side (with Remy) that is more than capable of staying in the Prem. If they go down, the gamble may have failed but at least they have saved themselves a extra £4m or so on the wage budget.

If QPR stay up, he continues to make sill money.
If QPR go down and he plays well, he could potentially be looking at a free transfer move to a big club, with an increased signing on fee, and good wages as he's now a proven Premier League player.
If QPR go down and he does not play well, ah well he'll still be taken on somewhere, on a free. West Ham or Sunderland would still pay him well.

In other news Lucas Piazon has apparently joined Malaga on loan for the rest of the season. Which there has been talk that it could be part of a deal for Malaga's Isco, who Chelsea are apparently interested in. How true the second part of that is, is still to be seen.

He'll have a relegation release clause, but it will be something like 4/5 million.
