He'd get into a few sides, but it would be based more on reputation of being Barcelona keeper than his ability.

He's a mid-table quality keeper.

More importantly though, appears there is some sense at Chelsea with A.Cole appearing to have agreed a year deal for next season. Now hopefully the same with Lampard, will be furious if he goes.

Do you actually believe that?

That I do. I've never rated him as a keeper whatsoever.

I would genuinely take the likes of Begovic, Schwarzer, Krul, etc over Valdes.

Valdes skill-set is the direct opposite of that belonging to a mid-table keeper.

Unless they're Swansea.

Some people are numb on here, you don't play near 500 games for Barcelona during such a dominant period without being a top player. His breakthrough season was when they finished 6th too and it's worth noting that him and Reina came through at a similar time and they opted to let Reina go for a pittance.

He's played more games than any other goalkeeper ever for Barcelona ffs, in such a successful period. If he was/is mid table quality he would've been found out a long time ago, because ANY mistakes at a top club, nevermind one of the biggest in the world, get picked up and scrutinised.

Sky sources/Twitter are reporting Alan Pardew has been fired.

After yesterday, I'm not surprised - that game felt like the watershed where it was revealed he was no longer good enough. Just hope Ashley doesn't appoint Joe Kinnear again.

Could do much worse than Nigel Adkins.

I don't know how genuine it is though - I think the Sky Sources thing is a parody account, which is annoying and more fool me. But Pardew is definitely on shaky ground, not least given some bookies have him as favourite for next out.

I wouldn't mind Adkins in, I suppose. Can't really think of many other options.

If Pardew is to go, I hope he has a go at the fans properly.

If he goes for less than £25m, you'll have been ripped off. He's brilliant.

I don't want him to go at all.
He'd be a brilliant successor to Cech, who due to his fragile bones and shit, may not be able to last as long as "normal" keepers.

Damn right. Cech shouldn't have been given that new long-term contract.

Thibaut's ready now.

Cortouis will probably stay out on loan for a season or two. We shouldn't sell him at any price. So young and so good, that is an amazing player we have on our hands!

I don't think he'll be sold, nor do I want that to happen either.

I think Cech will be number one for another season, Cortouis will probably spend another season at Atleti. After that he should be coming back to compete for the position with Cech. I'd like to see him spend pre-season with Chelsea for next season though, play some of the warm-up games to see how he goes amongst the Chelsea squad. Then send him back to Spain.

A decision is apparently expected on Fabricio Coloccini's future tomorrow, with his dad saying we want him to stay until the end of the season.

Be a shame if he goes but if I'm being honest it kinda feels inevitable, not least given he's had a poor campaign. Kinda means we need two rather than one new CB, even if the chances of us making a signing are as remote as ever.

Yanga-Mbiwa is 'an ass' for choosing Newcastle, claims Montpellier president Nicollin:

"He chose Newcastle? If so, he is an ass," Nicollin declared to L'Equipe.

French side Nancy have confirmed that a deal has been agreed with Newcastle for Massadio Haidara, reports Sky Sports.

A statement from the club read: "After 46 games and two-and-a-half years in the Nancy shirt, Massadio Haidara is leaving his former club for Newcastle United, currently sixteenth in the Premier League. The two clubs have reached an agreement and will finalise the transfer on Tuesday."

"If Zaha goes to Man Utd, good luck to him," Wenger told a press conference on Tuesday. "We were never in for him. Never."

Despite Wenger's words, ESPN understands that Arsenal did place a bid for Zaha last week but Palace's demands and the player's seeming desire to continue the next phase of his career at Old Trafford has ended their interest.

Arsenal are still looking to bring in two players in January, with French trio Yann M'Vila, Yoann Gourcuff and Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue all linked in recent weeks.

Wenger, though, refused to admit who he has been tracking, saying: "I will not give you any names. We are working very hard. It's not the number of players that counts, but the quality."

When pushed over a report that Gourcuff was offered to him he added: " I don't want to talk about that as it puts Lyon in a bad position and the player as well. You have to respect that the player has a contract somewhere and is playing. As long as the transfer is not on for anybody then it is better not to talk about it."

The French boss did, however, talk up West Ham midfielder and possible target Mohamed Diame - who has a reported release clause of £3.5m in his contract - as he revealed: "He has a great presence in the games, I have seen him have a big impact."
