Gonna go away for a week this summer with the girlfriend but just wondering if anyone has anywhere to recommend? I really fancy Rome/Barcelona myself, enough to do in a week?

Go somewhere more interesting. Montenegro is very sophisticated and the Croatian coast is very trendy. Rome/Barcelona are boring.

I'd recommend Skopje, Macedonia. Nice and warm, fairly cheap and I really enjoyed my couple of days there.

That was my left-field suggestion, my more main stream one would be Budapest, spent about 3 days there and it was class.

I've been there.

It's amazing.

The hassle of going to Russia as opposed to most of Europe makes it probably not worth it though.

Have to agree with Franck, Rome is very expensive, though the Croatian islands are well worth a visit, I went to Korcula and Vis with the other half a few years ago.

A weeks probably a bit long to spend there but Brugge is pretty good, could do a few days there then a few days in Yrpes. Somewhere abit different to think about

Depends what you want really. Korcula and Dubrovnik are nice. More of the coast around there is pleasant. Venice is the most overcrowded horrible place I've ever been in my life. I'm sure it would be lovely if it weren't so busy but fuck. The south east part of France (Nice, Cannes etc) are pretty cool. Best place I've ever been though is Kefalonia. Unreasonably beautiful.

Berlin is a good shout as well but personally i preferred Dusseldorf, really simular place and not quite as touristy.

If you're just looking for a nice place to stay with the girlfriend for a week without any specific demands about museums, clubs/pubs or other things in that manner I'll make an argument for Copenhagen. Danes are cunts and Denmark is a shithole, but based on my visit in December it definitely seemed like a place where you could enjoy yourself for a few nice summer days.

Or you could always come to Gothenburg, first pints are on me.

Again it depends what kinda thing you're looking for, but I've really enjoyed cities which are a bit more obscure like Krakow, Dresden and Budapest (although I think there's a fair few stag do's in Budapest), they were all excellent, as well as the bigger European cities like Munich, Barcelona and Rome etc.
