To be fair, the more mates you have to chat to online, the better time you're going to have, probably.

Why on earth are you trying to sell something to use with your mates to a 50odd year old using a Football Manager forum?

Yeah Obtuse won't understand the concept of playing games with your mates, it's a waste of time trying to explain it.

What's this I hear about Sony patenting new technology that puts a code into every PS4, and every disc for the PS4, which will mean that discs can only be played on one device, only, ever? This means that if you buy a physical game, put it into your machine, it'll only ever work on your PS4 and never on anyone else's. This will kill pre-owned games and physical renting of games, though I guess irrelevant if you only download games.

Apparently the new Xbox will have always-online DRM as well, so that's crap if you have a weak connection.

Read this about Xbox, not Playstation though.

You have to activate a game on a machine, so no swapping games, preowned games.

Not sure what happens if your console dies aswell.

Exactly, what if there's a new 'Red Ring of Death' and you need your machine to be repaired? Maybe there's some sort of manual reset or over-ride so a disc can work on more than one machine if necessary? Obviously, this would be prone to hacking.

I'm hearing that with the PS4 & Xbox 720, the validation for a game will be on an account, not a particular console. Sort of like how Steam works. Talk is though that with the Xbox 720 you will need a constant internet connection, ie games wont play if you are offline. Sucks.

They will never, in a million years, double 360 and get 720 and name the new Xbox that. It sounds absolutely shit.

Xbox 3D

I've read that it just being called "The Xbox" could be possible, sounds a hell of alot better than having 720 on the end.

People thought 360 was a stupid name when it was released too.

Both the PS4 and the Xbox will probably have DRM where you need to validate a game online first.

You won't need to be online all the time though.

I don't get what the point of DRM on a console is though, other than being a pain in the arse for your paying consumers.

How? Unless I've completely missed something pirates still need to use a modified console to play downloaded games.

Or is the DRM just meant to kill off the market for used games?

Not thinking about the millions of people that play offline then and lose out on sales? One load of shite for them to have consoles purely online/activating games online.

If you can't buy pre owned games (Which Sony/Microsoft make no money out of) you'll need to buy the games new.

I actually like the idea, it means that if you lose/break your game, as it's linked to your account, you'll be able to download it again, in the same way as steam.

I'd be amazed if more than 1% of people don't have their consoles online.

Well its not like it makes them any money. The people who lose are those that cannot afford to buy games at full value.

Why? The PC have already done it, I don't see why the consoles wouldn't as well.

Because PC games pretty much always had codes so they were always one use, long before Steam came along. Not to mention people buying PC's aren't buying them from places that sell PC games.

If Sony and MS decide to block used games on their consoles (which wont happen imo) then where are they going to sell the consoles? Cause you sure as hell aren't going to have Amazon, Game, Gamestop, even supermarkets now aren't going to sell a console that blocks a revenue stream that is so profitable for them. Retailers hold all the cards when it comes to used games, not the console makers.

Also PC games are traditionally cheaper, and its a lot easier to pirate PC games, well it was in the past.
