There should be an image icon next to images that treats them like images (they pop up in a gallery or just view the image if you open in new tab) clicking on the name would download it just like other attachments.
It may be that, that functionality isn't very obvious and user friendly but there have been no comments so far about it.
(Also i've just spotted a bug that files with extension PNG rather than png weren't being detected as images, will fix that now
Footygamer
It's impossible to convert the HTML to BBCode unfortunately which is why you can't edit a HTML quote if you're using the BBCode editor (what happens if you quote something that has custom HTML and try to edit it?).
I think you're thinking about this the wrong way. The main point here seems to be “enable easy posting of images from Imgur” I have no idea what the problem is here or why you don't find it easy to post images from Imgur with the HTML editor. Can you describe what the issue so it can be fixed?
murrayg
Maybe it was a .PNG attachment that I most recently tried then. I just found a non-.PNG and tested it and it now works (clicking the name opened the image in the same tab, clicking the icon opened it in a new tab).
murrayg
So the only option I can see to easily copy/paste the links from Imgur is to use the HTML embed option. None of the others show up in the html editor (just copying the link makes the link but doesn't show the images, the BBCode and Reddit markup just paste the code (as might be expected really)). The html embed option doesn't work well though, it has additional extraneous bits that aren't usually there and make it less easy for a user to then view and save the image from the post, as in the example above.
Also once I've pasted the code, the rest of my post is now in white text against black, which I can change in the text edit functions of the post, but shouldn't need to. Hopefully it's all just something I'm missing, but I've had a play around with the options I can see and I'm not finding anything.
Cheers 🙂

Can you possibly screenshot what it is you're pasting in? It's difficult to tell as it converts to something else once it's pasted.
I'm looking at the HTML bit of this but it doesn't do what you're describing for me?
Also I would normally embed an imgur post like this:
If you find using the toolbar button annoying and just want pasting in “https://i.imgur.com/GOC08SL.png” to instantly turn into an image that could be enabled butI don't know if that would sometimes be annoying? e.g. if you just wanted to link to a large image rather than embedding it.
murrayg
Aww man… When I do it, it looks like this:
I tried the embed toolbar button as the option, but from the options I have above, there's no filename, so I'd have to manually add in the .png to it. So now it's not your area, as it looks like it's differences in Imgur. Any ideas on why that is then? Otherwise, it's going back to the old editor but missing out on other functionality, like being able to edit quoted posts.
Footygamer
You might be sharing an “album” link rather than an image. From just that screenshot it's hard to tell where you're clicking.
You should be able to copy a link to any image by right clicking the same as any image on the internet.

Would it be possible to add a section to the download graphics landing page https://sortitoutsi.net/graphics that links to our “other FM graphics” section https://sortitoutsi.net/forums/20/other-football-manager-graphics
There is a lot of good stuff in there and it would make it easier for people to find.
murrayg
Here, specific to images, not an album:
I'll give a try with right-click and copy image address, that might be the way to go, though I still think it's all a bit odd…
Cheers.

@Footygamer and @murrayg I think you might be suffering from a case of miscommunication.
In the old bbc-editor you could just copy a bbc-link directly in to the comment field.
In the new htlm-editor that is not possible any more.
So @murrayg there are (at least) two ways to add a image in the new editor.
weeniehutjr
Trying to embed a streamable video (this one) doesn't work for me, I get a “This media URL is not supported” message. Additionally, the box for inputting the media URL is cut off at the edge of the comment box:
Footygamer
@weeniehutjr i've added streamable now. I have to manually add each service so if there's any others let me know 🙂
@murrayg I've added new functionality so if you copy and paste a link to an image into the editor it will automatically become an image.
e.g. if you copy a link in such as “https://sortitoutsi.net/logo.png” it will automatically embed the image.
If you don't want it to then just ctrl+z after it turns into a link.
murrayg
Thanks, just tested it and it worked fine. Is there any option to embed images inline rather than centred by default? For me it works better inline, at least if there are multiple images, but I don't know if I'm in the minority thinking that and everyone else prefers centred.
Footygamer
Yeah there should be 4 options inline, left, right, center when you click on the image.

When trying to tag a user manually, the limit of names displayed sometimes make it impossible to do so, especially if the username starts with a common name. I tried to tag this user here, for example, but once you press the space when typing, the editor loses track of the fact there's an @.
weeniehutjr
Is it because of the space in the name? I've found that it's possible to tag them if you type an underscore instead of a space (so e.g. Jakob_Vestergaard_Andersen)

For the second time in a few days, I'm indebted for your quicker grasp of how the forum works 👍

Even if I bothered to make wireframes on how to improves the designs, from your response it sounds like it would fall on deaf ears. Want me to list out the duplicated menu options across the left nav bar, the top bar, the content feed on the right panel cluttered with listing wonderkids that I would NOT want to see? I got a downloads button on the left, downloads button on the top with a hover panel to go to FM Downloads Hub, the latest downloads, individual downloads and 30 other links. I have a Downloads section on the right, downloads links to forums, download links to downloads.
I'm a developer myself, and former web developer, so I know how defensive people can get when their layouts are critiqued but my opinion is it's a cluttered mess, and there is no such thing as facts in design but you probably wouldn't know that because you're the type of person who can't take criticism.
So get off your high horse. If you want to take sortitoutsi to the next level, then simply organize your downloads in a versioned repository, make an installer that the user then selects what they want, the current versions of each or a specific version, click a button and it downloads and installs it for them. This can be easily made in C++/python. If you don't have someone that knows C++/python then can use something like Electron which you can also make a windows/mac installer using javascript / node.
Or don't and continue trying to belittle someone who actually gave feedback in a feedback section of a forum and pretend like what you have is some sort of great polished accomplishment.
I literally came here just to buy FM21 and download a couple megapacks, but I guess I'll move to a different site for these things now if this is how this community has devolved.
Qvordrup
Well this is more along the lines of actual constructive criticism that we are looking for 👍

Bye then

Have you ever considered to implement a dark theme on the website? Maybe a switch button to change it.
The white background is disturbing sometimes.
Qvordrup
It is on the “to do list” even though way down the list so it might take some time :

May be it's a known bug, but there is a problem with the players/staff that were added in the new winter official update (21.3).
Example:
https://sortitoutsi.net/football-manager/person/2000080097/velislav-kyorov
https://sortitoutsi.net/football-manager-2021/player/2000080097
In the second link the player's name is missing, which can cause the problem.

When a forum post is deleted (or moved, not 100% sure) but there are unread posts in that thread, clicking the “Jump to first unread” button directs to the first page of the thread instead

I think you're forgetting that this site is a hobby and everything does it for fun in spare time. If they don't enjoy doing something then it doesn't get done. This version of the site took 2 years to release, not because it literally took 2 years working 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year, but because I regularly went an entire month without doing any work on it at all and would just do a couple of hours here and there in my spare time.
What you've suggested above would take me alot longer than 4 hours so not something I could smash out in an afternoon, so how many 4 hour afternoons would it take? Are you suggesting I should take a week or two off work or a even whole month? Or that I should simply give up every evening and weekend to build it?
I agree the sort of installer you describe would be awesome but there are many things on the todo list i'd rather do before that as I think they're either more important or more interesting to me personally.
You're potentially forgetting that such an installer would only work for premium members because the files would have to come directly from our servers and couldn't be built to work alongside free mirrors, so this would be alot of effort to make something for a very small fraction of our users.
And even if we did we'd probably then get accused by someone with your attitude but a different opinion that we were prioritising premium users and trying to make money while ignoring the free users.
The people working on this site regularly feel like they can't do anything right because there's always someone who will criticise something, but truth be told they're all doing a fantastic job and there's a huge silent majority who love what they've done and are very grateful for it.
It's very easy to hear your criticisms, which weren't written very constructively, and feel like that they amount to simply “you've wasted hours of your time on this and it's crap and you should spend more hours of your free time making it better for me, but i'm not willing to help, you should do it”. No doubt you can see why people would react badly if that's how they're interpreting your comments.
In the same vein your comments on the design seem to amount to one of the following:
Again, i've no doubt you can see that any of those comments sound unreasonable when written out like that. But that's basically what your comments amounted to.
You won't be surprised to know that nobody with any UI or UX experience has been involved in the design of the site and with that in mind i'm really happy and proud of it and it's one of the best things i've ever designed (you should see some of my past attempts!).
Unfortunately nobody with actual experience and expertise in that area has been keen to get involved.
We've had a few people have a go in the past but it usually involves a mock up of 2 or 3 of the “fun" pages then a quick loss of interest when you need to get into the more technical nitty gritty of the design.
As i'm sure you know a site of this size would take weeks of full time work. Translate that into the odd evening and weekend instead of full 40 hour weeks and that's months and years of work that most people aren't willing to do as a hobby.
If you can't see and understand that then I think it's going to be very difficult to communicate with you.
If you do really have the expertise you do i'd love to get some constructive feedback, it doesn't need to be full wireframes that have taken hours, even just links to examples or screenshots highlighting the major issues would be a huge help and probably take as much time as your rants took to write.
Footygamer
Should be fixed now 🙂

I don't know why you bother engaging tbh. I'm sure we can all think of little things which need tweaking, but by and large I'm also sure we're all broadly pleased with how the new site has turned out. If the original poster hasn't visited the site for a while and couldn't find his way round, that's on him, not on you…

Well said @Footygamer , you are supported by the majority who thank you for your hard work and support to this valuable site
