Hey guys FM22 update has been released and the images have been compressed to massively reduce the size of the update from 23.59 GB to 7.79 GB, which I think you'll agree is a massive improvement!
On top of this, now whenever you view submissions you can compare the compressed versions to the non compressed versions to check for any loss of quality (it's possible, although we haven't found any issues yet!)
e.g. if you look at the Active Old Trafford Background you'll have a new option to “Compare Compression”
This will take you to a page where you can compare the two images by sliding an icon in the centre of the image left or right.
Sometimes the icon will appear in the top left instead of the centre and won't work. If this happens simply refresh the page and it should be fine.
I don't plan on spending any more time improving this feature as I don't expect it to be used very often, but if you do have any feedback or ideas please let me know 🙂
This will only work on active images in the pack that say “In Megapack” in blue.
Here is Old Trafford Comparison as an example: https://sortitoutsi.net/graphics/submissions/compare/1100975
Hopefully you can't see any difference 🙂

I can't find who requested it, but it's in the backlog.
Now when you view the Backgrounds Submission Queue you can filter by “Game Item”, which will filter in the following ways:

Just thought I'd clarify what I'm doing with my City pic contributions ie using the same pic for 10, 20 or even 100 odd teams for Rome, these are essentially placeholders just to cover as much ground as possible. If you have a landscape picture for a specific suburb/borough/area of a particular city that geographically better suits a particular team then go for it.
Maybe I'm blind, but has this link always been in the guidelines section? Maybe it can be placed somewhere more prominently, as it gives a lot more options for person backgrounds if the watermarks from getty can be removed this easily. http://getty.beatsnoop.com

Thank you. The 7.34gb download size for 22.08 is huge and just about doubles the total size of this Megapack. Is this definitely correct? If so are there fundamental changes over what has come before?
We upgraded the resolutions, so obviously the size of the files will be bigger then as well. Some of the city images for example are almost 4 MB in size, so if you have a lot of those it will add up quickly. Maybe have a look at this @Footygamer ? If every update pack from now on is this big, it might become a bit problematic
It seems most of the 1600x900 city images are around 2 MB, but that's still pretty big if you have thousands of them
White Flag
Yes, the size is definitely problematical. Mega seeem to cut off at 5gb's unless you start paying, so I suspect most folk (including me) won't be able to download this.
Perhaps splitting 2022.08 into three or even four parts might be a good idea?
Thanks.

@Footygamer This raises the question if the on server compression still is active?
Footygamer
Ah whoops, image optimisation stopped working when we moved database on June 24th.
Fixing it now.

A new version is live but it's still 12GB rather than 16GB, i'm not sure about the 5 GB restriction @White Flag mentions, can you point to some info on this?
The change file for 2022.08 is 7GB when it shouldn't be, which it shouldn't be, so i'm going to have to do more work to reset that, I might delete 2022.08 and 2022.09 and regenerate 2022.08.
Here's a reminder of the previous sizes of the pack, you can see where compression was implemented for 2022:
2022.09 - 12.57 GB
2022.08 - 18.01 GB
2022.07 - 10.83 GB
2022.06 - 9.95 GB
2022.05 - 9.20 GB
2022.04 - 9.06 GB
2022.03 - 8.93 GB
2022.02 - 8.67 GB
2022.01 - 8.52 GB
2022.00 - 8.36 GB
2021.09 - 25.33 GB
2021.08 - 25.10 GB
2021.07 - 24.93 GB
2021.06 - 24.69 GB
2021.05 - 24.35 GB
2021.04 - 24.02 GB
2021.03 - 23.67 GB
2021.02 - 23.55 GB
2021.01 - 39.19 GB
2021.00 - 38.55 GB

Excellent update Footygamer. Loving the increased resolutions.

@Footygamer There are no 5gb limit on mega. Instead there are a limit on how much you can download with a free account at one time depending on different things like bandwidth available etc., and all you have to do if you exceeds this is to wait and resume the download at a later point (usually a couple of hours) 👍
