Introducing Project Classic FM - The biggest update for FM24 and a long goal to keep the old generation of FM alive

Today i'd like to introduce a new project called Classic FM it's available here: https://classicfootballmanager.com/ 

The goal of the project is to be the biggest and most complete Data Update for FM24. But more than that it's to keep the old generation of Football Manager alive for years to come, not just until FM25 is released.

That's the reason there's a separate URL, because maintaining support for two games on this site will get very messy over time, so long term, people looking for updates to the older versions of the game will be able to find them at the new site and the main Sort It Out SI website will continue to follow the new game. Of course for now you can find all FM24 content on this website.

I've also setup a Sub Reddit r/classicfm so there's a place for people to continue sharing content about older games when the more popular subreddit moves on to the new game.

What does it include?

This is the best Data Update available for Football Manager 2024 giving you the following:

• Latest Transfers
• Latest Promotions and Relegations
• Updated Player Attributes
• Updated Club Transfer and Wage Budgets
• Updated Player Ages
• Updated Contract Join and End Dates
• Dynamic Player Abilities
• Dynamic Club Finances

What are Dynamic Player Abilities and Club Finances?

On top of just updating the basics i've added new feature that I wish was in the game by default Dynamic Abilities and Dynamic Budgets.

People won't always agree with how i've updated players ability and clubs finances. For instance Cole Palmer was rated 140 in 24/25, but what should he be now 160? 165? 170? and what should a teams transfer budget be? Does anyone know the true state of any clubs finances?

To solve this i've implemented a system to let every save be unique with every player's ability and every clubs finances changing between each save whilst still staying within a realistic range (it's not totally random).

If you always play with the same team you'll discover that sometimes you have a transfer budget of £60m other times £90m and everything inbetween. Whilst with players like Rashford sometimes he will hit the peaks of 22/23 other times he won't and this will vary alot more across games than usual.

But this is optional. If you want to play with fixed data in every save like the default game, you can do that too.

Why?

Lots of reasons. In the short term FM25 has been delayed so we all need to keep FM24 up to date if we want to play with the latest squads, this includes updating player abilities, ages, contract dates and club budgets which most free and simpler updates don't do.

In the long term FM25 will bring alot of changes that not everyone will like. Even if they do like the changes, it's still nice to go play the old games for nostalgia.

This isn't a unique idea, it's already happened before, CM01/02 is an old generation of Championship Manager that people still play regularly over at https://champman0102.net/. I want to replicate this longetivity and it's best to start now while as many people are still invested in FM24 as possible.

This is just speculation, but after Sports Interactive were sued by Man Utd they began to crack down on community efforts to mod the games. They've also gone all out in buying licenses over the past few years when previously they've been more than happy to leave this up to the modding community. While everyone is excited that Unity will make the game more easily moddable for skinners, i'm concerned that it will be less moddable when it comes to adding unlicensed content. FM24 could be the last of its kind in that respect. We won't know if this is true until after FM25 is released. But again, it seems best to get started sooner rather than later.

Full Player Histories

Long term i'd love to update all player histories as well to add to the immersion. This includes not only players real life league stats, but also things like their international record and their injury history.

This will take alot of work and is not ready yet.

Start Date

I and many others have spent countless hours trying to get the game to start in June 2024 with all the right promotions and relegations. It's not possible.

Compatibility with older FM Games

Is FM24 the best FM ever? Some would say yes, others would say no. In theory the system i've put in place should allow updating older versions of FM as well. But i've been focusing on FM24 for now so this isn't ready yet and I can't say 100% that it will be possible or good enough.

Steam Workshop Files for Epic Games Owners

There are thousands of files on Steam Workshop that are not available to owners of the game on Epic Games or Game Pass.

I've found a way to make Steam Workshop files available to all the people that got the game from Epic.

£10 £5 a year

I'm charging £5 a year. This will no doubt annoy some people. Others won't mind since it's a small amount to pay. Long term I feel like £10 is also a reasonable price, but I want to start at £5 to thank early backers and because not all the features listed above are ready yet.

You can get it for free

Still not everyone can afford £5 so everyone will be able to get it for free by contributing to the project. There's going to be alot of monotonous data entry, especially for the player histories, if you help out with this for an hour two you can get the update for free and the update will be better for it.

As everyone is probably well aware fansites and YouTube creators often sell copies of FM with affiliate codes earning them referral money. This year they're missing out, or at least seeing a delay, in this income that they'd usually receive in October/November. To cover this i'm doing the same, you can sign up for a referral code and earn 10% on every sale of the update.

Are the skills and budgets of second division teams also updated? As is the case of my club, which is FC Cartagena, second division in Spain. Thank you and I will not hesitate to contribute with my subscription

@Graham Cameron I can see the two orders and will get one refunded. The download should happen instantly or there's a button on the classic fm home page saying “Click here” to download if you've already paid.

hi, i installed and put all in editor data.

It's confusing as it's doubled up on nations so i have two of everything, this creates a glitch where i can't even open a game and see nations selected   

You probably shouldn’t use the data update if you are using this new packaged option would be my guess. You can still use the licence fix files however I imagine.

The data update (transfers, contracts and leagues) is already inside the Classic FM files, you don't need both.

🚨 Quick Fix for Classic FM

Massive apologies but I accidentally left in some debugging code that affected Cole Palmer and only Cole Palmer. This means he's still rated a lowly 140. This only affects the "Non Dynamic Data" file. If you're using one of the Dynamic Data Files it's not an issue.

Fixed thank you, but now i have another issue.

When loading in the game, it seems to have gone back a year, so Luton and Sheffield UTD are in Prem etc.

Please, the promotions and relegations of regional categories in Spain are not updated.

Hi, I've downloaded it, all the transfer updates have gone through fine but none of the player ages or player ability/attributes have changed, I've got all the boxes ticked and the only editor data I've used is the files from the download, don't know what I've done incorrectly

Hello. Does this update include new wonderkids, such as Chido Obi, Franchesco Camarda (U17 wonderkids)? Also, is this update compatible with other custom databases, such as Realistic Database from Daveincid or Data Tweak from SirTavares?

Hey, so lets say I'll sub now for 5£ and website says it will be locked to 5£ price forever. What will happen if I suspend/forget to renew it for another term? Will resuming/renewal be treated as continuation for 5£ or new subscription for 10£?
