To be fair, when UEFA treat the Europa League with such disdain, it's not a shock that it's not treated with the greatest respect by supporters.

They should have never have changed the format to this anyway. It's far too convoluted.

I remember the days when fans wanted their team to win absolutely everything, how times have changed.

It's hardly realistic now a days to say we want to win everything, even Man City won't go into a season with a goal to win everything. And I'd much rather do better in the league, as previously stated.

And TS, not really for me if I'm honest. Due to the lack of the big big quality sides (Atletico and the likes are good, but no Barcelona), it wouldn't prove much. We got to the semi final a few years back and that meant fuck all really.

I think you need to take an honest look at where Liverpool are at. It's not as if you were on course for Champions League qualification last season but narrowly missed out - you're massively behind the clubs that can expect to be qualifying year in, year out. I know the club has ambitions of breaking back into that top four but realistically, for the time being at least, you'd do well to match clubs like Atletico.

Also got to remember that Atlético defeated Liverpool on their way to their first Europa League title.

I see nothing wrong with that. The Europa League is a brand and as such needs to maintain its identity. The Cup Winners Cup enjoyed a very successful image in the minds of the media and public, careful management of the brand's identity can be used to create a positive spin.

Yep, all that three years of 'rich heritage'...

I know there is much to be said about promoting the brand but if they really wanted to enforce it, they would have to stop teams dropping players and putting out the reserves, which is pretty much unfeasible without massive criticism.

That's the one that was found at White Heart Lane isn't it? Not a good sign that their chucking them away seeing as they was only issued to a few people.

Hardly, AVB's pre-match press conference was pretty much a word for word re-iteration of that.

Fair enough, but he's been pretty enthusiastic about the EL all along, hopefully the rest of the club feel the same.

Well the first mistake they made was rebranding as the Europa League. Calling it the league shows it as a direct comparison to the Champions League and thus demonstrates its inferiority. What made the UEFA Cup enjoyable was that it was a direct knockout competition. If the Europa League wants to survive it needs to break away from the Champions League and have an identity.

Hoping for an easy win tonight. But it won't happen - we never do it the easy way, especially when we are expecting to win

Finished 1-1 in both group games. I'd have been happy enough with a draw before the game but it was a bit of a shame to concede so late. Still top of the group, that's the main thing.

As has Assaidi, at least tonight anyway. I admire a manager thats willing to give youth a chance.

Nah, that was funny from Agger but it's not allowed cause keeper still had possession of the ball.

Can someone explain why Etoo was playing so deep?

Literally didn't realise he was playing until that freekick at the end
