If anyone wants the start bar back, you can use a nifty tool called Stardock Start8, which basically makes it exactly like Windows 7 + the Metro Start page (it shows the desktop first when the computer first boots) and its easily switchable between both, I think this is how MS should have had it in the first place.
I surprisingly LOVE Internet Explorer 9, its so fast and elegant, I think its a real rival to Firefox now, although Chrome is still someway a head.
Just ordered Media Center Pro too, but does anyone using Windows 8 have any recommend apps?
Flash.
I installed the Start button and set it to launch directly to the Desktop.
I'll never use the Metro interface, it's pointless on a PC.

Hardly. Windows 8 works on PCs aswel as tablets atm, by 2020 PCs will no longer exist imo. I fail to see how this is the "end".
Ninja
No. They won't.
Zog
The end of Windows as an open platform for gaming.

Could turn out to be a good move then.

However I don't think Windows 8 will harm PC Gaming in anyway shape-or form.
Playing games on a PC is something Windows 8 doesn't change. In fact, its universal adoption of hardware acceleration at every level is the best vindication gamers could ask for. 3D functionality was something that only gamers cared about, even though the same cards that offered superior 3D often gave better 2D and video image quality as well.
If there was ever a Windows that threatened gaming it was Vista, though that was Nvidia's fault. They survived all that.
Phoenix Arrow
Actually, you know what. That's just too stupid. Fuck my original point. I just want to point out to the world that see that you just said PCs will cease to exist in 2020. That's retarded. Seriously. That's like someone reading an article in some shit magazine that's trying to sell copies and decided it's the word of god.

Gaming market is a very different beast though, far more competition in the PC market
Mr Willy
I'm not a PC expert though, but this is what I always hear from those who think they know a little about it. If I'm wrong, feel free to slate me.

I mean in the capacity of a gaming system, a gaming computer and an office computer are totally different.
Also think about what tablets will be like 8 years from now, then compare a computer from 98 to now, massive difference.
Ninja
But the fundamental problem with a tablet is that it has to be ultra portable. You can't get enough screen real estate and a good enough input system to make it anything less than a chore for anything that requires heavy work. So it's never going to replace the PC as a work tool. Then you have processing power, conceivably you're going to get tablets quick enough to run top end games in 8 years, but without an input system or a big screen you're not going to get anyone choosing to play them on that over a PC.
So it's never going to replace a PC for business, education or gaming. They're an accompaniment.
Phoenix Arrow
a) That's not what you said.
b) That's also bullshit.
You seem to think that PS4 and Xbox whatever coming out will make less people interested in PC gaming? But. I mean.
Jason
No not at all, but if Windows 8 did kill PC gaming in the longrun, users would have no choice.
Phoenix Arrow
Flash.
1. You do realize people use gaming computers for work too? Try typing out uni coursework on a tablet.
2. They still won't have keyboards and will still have small screens? And what differences are there between '98 computers and computers today? They're faster, anything else?
Jason
Smaller, more power, I can really see a tablet come out in the future with a wireless keyboard/mouse, so why couldn't someone with uni coursework use that? I remember when Hard drives used to be the size of a brick, and smaller in virtual size, now you can get 2inch terabytes, so I fail to see why they can't put a 19-21inch tablet together with the power of the best gaming computer in the world, with a wireless keyboard/mouse as an addon. I mean I remember when a phone was the size of a brick, then they went really small, like 3310 small, and now they're back big again, with far more power.
Technology moves on, who'd have thought we'd have all we have now 10 years ago?
Phoenix Arrow
Eh. Honestly, there hasn't been much innovation in the last 10 years. Everythings just got smaller and more powerful due to components getting smaller. Smaller components = more you can stuff into your phone and makes it possible for tablets to exist.
I know what you're trying to say though, but tablets are designed to be portable. A 19 - 21 inch one won't happen because it would be unweildy. It would be like trying to lug around an LCD monitor with you all day. Furthermore, the interface is fiddly, right? People would need a keyboard plugged in. But then you wouldn't be able to hold the tablet upright, so you'd need a stand. To sum up, you'd have a massive tablet in a stand on your desk with a keyboard attached and probably a mouse because using a touch screen and a keyboard is stupid.
So you'd have a shit desktop, basically.
Flash.
A 21 inch tablet with a mouse and keyboard?
What's the point in that? Isn't that just an all-in-one pc with a battery? (Which would last about 20 minutes with a screen that big).
Plus as PA said, you'd need a stand to put the tablet on, then you'd need to plug it in due to the battery lasting such a short time. Then you're just back to All-In-One PC's that we already have.
PC's really aren't any smaller than they were 10 years ago. Home PC's are still the same size, Laptops have shaved maybe a centimeter or so off. We had tablets 10 years ago too, they just weren't very good.
Hard drives have also stayed the same size. They've been the same size for decades, just increased the storage space.

Jason
What are you trying to do thats slow? Ive had no lag/slowless at all.
Obtuse
Just general opening of programs. It shudders to open basic things. I won't dare game on it yet
Jason
Not had any of these problems, yet.
