Are people still shocked that the England national team perform poorly?

If so, why?

Not really shocked about the performance but it is the results that pain me.

We should really be beating the likes of Norway, no if or buts

Also.

"We are the best in the world! We are the best in the world! We have beaten England 2-1 in football!! It is completely unbelievable! We have beaten England! England, birthplace of giants. Lord Nelson, Lord Beaverbrook, Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Anthony Eden, Clement Attlee, Henry Cooper, Lady Diana--we have beaten them all. We have beaten them all.

"Maggie Thatcher can you hear me? Maggie Thatcher, I have a message for you in the middle of the election campaign. I have a message for you: We have knocked England out of the football World Cup. Maggie Thatcher, as they say in your language in the boxing bars around Madison Square Garden in New York: Your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!"

I also witnessed Norway have their best players (Henriksen and Nordveidt) on the bench today. The question is: What's the point in calling up players that are travelling to games with the A squad? Pointless. Anyway, not really looking forward to this.

Because we won't be leaving Israel as early as you guys. We'll need them later on in the tournament.

Think it all boiled down to experience imo, every single player in the Norway team has played for the full Norway team, that really does help.

The whole England setup needs to learn from this. It is not a step down to play for any level of the national team so we should stop acting like it is and always call upon the best for the level

Only Magnus Wolff Eikrem in today's starting line-up have. The rest (Rogne, Semb Berge, Singh, Berget and Nielsen) have only played 2-3 meaningless friendlies against Thailand and such where the squads have been of youngsters/domestic based players, i.e. not the real Norway national side. On paper one could say that the English squad plays on a higher level too.

Our U19 side beat Germany 3-1 in the U19 Euro qualifiers yesterday as well. As long as Drillo is long gone by the time these guys are ready for the Norway side, the future's looking bright!

I can't really see the benefit of England competing in these tournaments. If England win, no one really cares. If England lose - everyone gets really moany and start demanding an autopsy.

This Norway side also turned over France, putting 5 past Varane and co. It's meant to be a good crop I think.

I understand this is your opinion but this is the problem the country has. We should embrace competitions like this and not deride them.

90 Norway Norway 1-0 Italy
Strandberg (Norway) scores from the penalty spot. Norway's captain Stefan Strandberg steps up confidently and rolls the ball past Francesco Bardi's reach into the bottom-left corner. His first competitive goal at this level sends Norway top of Group A.

90 +4 Norway 1-1 Italy
Bertolacci (Italy) scores! Delirium here for the men in blue as they level and retake pole position in Group A. Andrea Bertolacci hooks a dropping ball over the stranded goalkeeper and Stefan Strandberg on the line to equalise dramatically.

Glad England got beat tonight - the worst thing would have been a scrappy England win and then Stuart Pearce coming out with Steve Kean quotes such as 'we've ended a difficult campaign on a high' or 'this is something to build on'.

0 points and 0 goals from open play, what an absolute mess.

PEARCE OUT! AN ENGLAND MANAGER WHO CAN ONLY REACH THE QUARTER FINAL OF A TOURNAMENT IS A DISGRACE. BRING IN HODDLE WHO REACHED THE FINAL 16 AND HATES CRIPPLES.

ALSO SACK HODGSON.

I don't mind Stuart Pearce too much but after the the three last performances I think it's apparent he's taken the U21's as far as he can.

Stuart Pearce has always been a shit manager - it's not his fault he's got a shit team though.

Not one of that starting 11 except maybe Henderson is a good player. Ince is alright I suppose.

They're not exactly world-beaters but they should have done a hell of a lot better than they did. Didn't the Israel side tonight only have one player featuring for a foreign club? There was more than enough Premier League experience in our side to see off Israel.

Compared to our team - Pearce's side is shit together. That's where the problem with that side is. On paper you should be better than us - player v player.

Who'd take the job if you got rid of Pearce? I can't see there being many interested.

He is pretty shit though.

That Spain team is out of this world, there's no way we would have beat them today. If we had, it would have been a bigger achievement than us beating Brazil in the 1998 World Cup. I'm well proud of this Norway U21 side though.

Italian players were acting like pricks, I hope they get smashed in the final.
