Hi guys, I decided to emulate again Fonseca's tactic, with two differences compared to the first version. The most important difference is Yunus Musah's role emulation. In the first tactic, the right inside foward in attack (Chukwueze or Pulisic) has mainly attacking duties and due to the fact that the right wing-back (Emerson Royal) lacks of defensive skills, AC Milan conceded a lot of goals to the opponents, even the weakest ones from counterattacks. On the other side, Theo Hernandez is also a very attacking wing-back and his connection with Leao works extremely well in attack, but leaves too many spaces to the opponents on the flanks and that's where most of goals conceded by AC Milan came from. Paulo Fonseca received a lot of critics by many football analysits and newspapers because Fofana can't be the only defensive midfielder who can help the two central defenders, and suggesting him to add a midfielder.
This is what Fonseca tried to do with Yunus Musah playing as a right winger replacing Chukwueze. As we saw in the great Champions League match against Real Madrid, won by Milan 3-1, even if Real Madrid had 59 %of ball possession, they could not score more than 1 goal. Out of possession, Musah's duty is to help Emerson Royal and the two midfielders Reijinders and Fofana, disrupting the opponent's attack and in attack, to find the pockets where he can receive his teammates passes. Even if Musah's preferred position is a central midfielder ( not a defensive one as Fonseca believed at the beginning of the season) , he is doing well wiide on the flank and in the non possession phase he is good also as the fifth defender. It means if the team defends with 4 defenders (back 4), Musah will act as an additional defender. After the great game against Real, Fonseca continued to use this new tactic agaist Juventus where Milan managed to finish a game with 0 goals conceded (finally!) and Empoli, won 3-0.
Is this a turning point in Milan's season? Did Fonseca finally find the right structure, more balanced and less vulnerable in defense? We'll know it in the next matches, but I hope MIlan will stop to allow the opponents to score so many goals always for the same mistakes.
The second important difference is Rejinders's role, in the first tactic I created, he played as a deep-lying playmaker while in this one he plays as a roaming playmaker, a role I believe is the most suitable to emulate his moviements and playing style in Football Manager 2024.
With this tactic, I played season 2024-25 using a database which allows you to play Fm 24 as if it was Fm 25, with players transfers updated and with start date on June 2024. Of course, I did not buy / sell any player. I played only Serie A matches and skipped all other competitions. I won the title, winning 28 games, drawing 9 and losing only 1 game, wiith 116 goals scored and 34 conceded.
