I'd say it's a fair price, since his injury he's not looked the same player, he's still very good but there's something missing.
Fiorentina will no doubt be delighted to get €30m for him especially as the two they bought with that money, Gomez & Rossi, will more than make up for losing him.

Here's one for our Serie A followers, after 15 years in Italy Seb Frey has moved to Bursaspor. In his prime Frey was such an underrated keeper, he could have played at a higher level and I'm sure some kind of falling out hamstrung his international career. In the last year to 18 months however he was an overweight liability, sad how quickly he fell...

Is Giaccherini still meant to be going to Sunderland? He's surely far too good for that, isn't he?

Yep, the deal should be done in the next few days. I wouldn't say he's way too good for Sunderland, he's a pretty good player, hard working, versatile but nothing out of the ordinary. He exceeded expectations at the Confederations Cup, I mean most people in Italy were questioning why he was even called up before it started.

Ah that's good. Saw a couple of journalists having a go at Altidore as well, saying he's simply not very good.

Do you reckon Matri or Quagliarella would do much in the PL?

I'm growing pretty nervous that we won't be able to pull off a deal for Higuain, Suarez or Rooney, and by the time we begin looking at other options all of the other quality strikers will have moved clubs already (Villa, Jovetic, Gomez etc).

I think you'll get Higuain, Suarez will go to Madrid and Rooney will go to Chelsea.

In other news the Times reckons we want for Fellaini as well, a lot of United fans seem really down about that but for my money I think he'd do really well for us.

If we could get him and Fabregas that would be a brilliant summer.

Not gonna get my hopes up though, we'll probably end up resigning Gibson out of desperation.

I'd love for us to get Fellaini, we have no-one like him at all.
Definitely can't see Barca selling Fabregas either, or him wanting to come to us anyway

I think Fellaini is perfect for us.

Bring in Baines and another DC, ship out Lindegaard and get a decent stand-in keeper.

I had reservations about Fellaini seeing how Moyes used him last season but he did an interview where he confirmed his future is as a defensive midfielder and he and Moyes felt the same. So yeah I'd love him.

RE: Fabregas. Remember that column Denis Irwin wrote a month ago claiming we would move heaven and earth to get him? Could be some substance to this, if we've been interested for that long then maybe Fabregas has indicated he wants a move. I still think it's unlikely, mind.

Moyes has turned his attention to the 26-year-old after Thiago Alcântara joined Bayern Munich from Barcelona for £21.6m. Yet it is thought that Moyes could have signed Thiago over the course of the past weeks, with the delay in his finally leaving for Bayern being down to United's manager not being completely convinced by the 22-year-old. Although it is understood Thiago was keen on joining United, there were suggestions from some at the club that he might struggle on occasion to cope with the physicality of the Premier League.

I'll castrate someone if United get Cesc and we end up with fucking Suarez instead of Higuain.

I've seen this a bit, but I reckon it's mostly media outlets covering the fact that they didn't know what Thiago was thinking by making up a plausible story. Reckon the lure of playing for the best team in Europe under a manger he knew very well and had worked with before and promised him game time was too much to resist.

The only really argument that he had to join us over Bayern was that our midfield is shit, and thats a pretty flimsy reason to assume he'd come.

Anyway, Tito has basically just put the Fabregas rumours to bed. Not selling.

Vilanova: "I know he received offers, but I spoke with him and he told me expressively he wants to stay"

Very predictable end to the saga, stupid bid really.

That's not the end of it at all, you always see statements like that and the player ends up moving anyway.

Just because it's Barcelona you're buying from doesn't make those sort of statements anymore credible. Besides other places are reporting that Fabregas would consider the move so I'd say it's still a possibility really.

"I know he has received offers from other teams," Vilanova reveals.

"But Cesc has told me he wants to stay here, he has told me it is his dream to stay with Barcelona. He doesn't want to go to other teams for money reasons or playing time.

"He knows there is competition for places here but his decision is to stay. I am relaxed about the situation."

That's pretty firmly putting to bed that Fabregas wants to leave, and goes far beyond the usual bravado about how the player's not for sale. Fabregas is going to look like a massive knob if he does leave after that second sentance. It doesn't even look like Barca are that bothered about keeping him, from that.

He'd probably look alright. Wouldn't have to do anything apart from move the ball around which he's pretty good at, everyone else would do the other stuff.

It's alright though, Bale will play instead of him.

Oh aye forgot your lot were after Bale too.

Man Utd would be scary good if they get all their targets.

I don't really think Bale will happen, truth be told we don't really need him, and its an awful lot of cash. Not even sure how much Moyes wants him.

Would be amazing if we did though.

Sunderland complete the signing of midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini from Italian side Juventus.

The 28-year-old Italian international has signed a four-year deal with Paolo Di Canio's side

Giaccherini won the Italian Serie A title twice, has been capped 14 times for his country and featured twice at Euro 2012 as the Italians finished as runners-up.

I really do not think there would be much point to such a deal.

We seem more interested in signing goalies then we do for the parts of the team that actually need strengthening.
