We have all the leverage in the world. If we don't want to sell him he doens't go. We're not going to be bullied by Chelsea and if we don't sell him we're convinced that he will contribute and yes we're almsot certainly well aware that Chelsea won't want him in 2 years time (regardless of whether he's been left to rot or not I reckon) which would probably be the clubs favourite outcome to this whole saga.
He's also had one average season in the past 3 years, the other season you refer to he had injury problems at the start and then came back for the second half of the season playing as a number 10 and put in some of the best performances he ever has in a United shirt.
I think the other thing that you have to consider is that Rooney going is going to cause bad PR for the club, so I imagine any money we do get from him leaving will go straight away onto a high profile bid for a player (probably Bale) so it's in our interests to demand as much money as possible to defuse negative chat about Moyes selling Rooney.

Aye, Jovetic is being bought to play more out wide, him and Navas wide with Silva in the center seems to be the consensus.

But Rooney is massive because he is Man United's highest profile player. Fanboys who support Man Utd want his name for that reason. The top player from Man Utd will, for the foreseeable future, sell a fuckton of shirts. If Utd buy Bale then Bale will easily sell those sorts of figures.

Make it happen

Then Messi will have no reason to move but Thiago will.

Just because its always fun when 2 clubs feud and they threaten each others players
AFC
Yeah which is why I'm saying Utd wouldn't sell him for so cheap as they will need a price big enough in which they could sign 'star' that could replace Rooney commercial wise such as Bale. Wouldn't make sense to sell Rooney for £20m to buy Bale for £60m from a £££ standpoint.
Justicar
No but Bale is also better and younger than Rooney (and on the up), so it makes sense from a footballing sense. But yeah, I agree with the fact that it doesn't money wise.

Public statements from the player about him not wanting to leave and public statements from the club (eventually) now saying they won't sell, yet Woodward's back in Manchester and Moyes is apparently ringing journalists up at random to tell them that its to sort out Fabregas.
Slashman X
I honestly can't see Fabregas picking Utd over Arsenal if he was to leave Barca
Ninja
That's not quite what he said, but the jist is there.
I think what makes his comments interesting is that his 'give it a year' comments are basically the first public mention that Fabregas isn't that happy at Barca.
Also seems to indicate that Arsenal aren't going to do anything about it this year.
Dutton
The assumption in some papers is that Barca need the money to bring in Thiago Silva/any CB after spending so much on Neymar.
Slashman X
I'd say the 'give it a year' is because Fabregas wants to see how much game time he's gonna get now that Thiago is gone and Xavi is on the way out.
If Fabregas says he wants to leave then Arsenal will be right on that
Slashman X
Fabregas behind the strikers could inject new life into Giroud + Walcott, so a striker might not be needed
Ninja
Regardless, Fabregas' has said in public that he wouldn't leave for any reason, giving it a year to see how things turn out is a pretty big chasm from that.
And it's obviously hard to speculate, but I don't think that its beyond the realms of possibility for Arsenal to think they are (quite rightly) well stocked in midfield and would be better served going after a striker than a player that really wouldn't be that necessary for them (I mean obviously he'd improve them, just not by as much as a striker or a defender would) you've got to factor in the wages as well, and it seems more luxury than necessity and I'm not sure Wenger will go after that.
Nah he's had 2 years of playing there, and it obvious he's much better where he was playing at Arsenal.
AFC
Money is not issue, accounts show we have £100m fund for transfers as well as the fact we are slowly moving towards a better wage structure in which we will pay the best players top money rather than everyone roughly the same amount.
Technically we don't need another creative midfielder and can make-do with what we have but Fabregas is in a different league to anyone we have and if he's available I reckon we'd be in for him. Would be easy to sell Cazorla for a good price too.

I took that out after reading my post once I posted it for the same reason

Never thought Peter Schmeichel or Andy Cole would play for City so anything can happen I guess.

Ah fair enough

Higuain to Arsenal
Rooney to Chelsea
Bale possibly to Man Utd is Rooney goes
Will go all the way to deadline day bar Higuain, before being completed imo.

Rooney to Chelsea has all the hallmarks of a last day £50m desperation bid.
Any one seen Howard Nurse's tweets about the Fabregas thing?
God knows why the BBC employ him, you could sack him and replace him with a robot that just tweets 'I don't know anything' over and over.
Number 1
Knowing the way we shambolically do our business he'll probably be playing for Aston Villa.
