Asking this for a friend, he's ordered the game and it has been dispatched but he wants to know if he can play the game at midnight without the disk on Steam.

Is this possible?

Has he ordered a boxed copy? If yes, then surely he'd need to wait for the game to arrive in the post so he could install it.

If he's not got the game key code (which is unlikely as he's bought a physical copy, so it'll be on the manual or something) then no, he can't.
