Would like us to sign a pair of full backs and Abdennour but I don't think we'll get the full backs.

The fact that we apparently pulled the plug on the deal ourselves and the now reported interested in Saido Mané makes it even more frustrating. The fact that we clearly briefed our interest after doing so, apparently proud of the fact that we want to spend more money on an inferior player is even worse.

Our options there are Depay, Mata, Young, Januzaj. Young's not good enough to be a starter for us, and the other 3 are as likely to be used at number 10 as on the wings.
Not only is there a huge amount of pressure on two young players, but we're also short of numbers. I'd say its a huge worry, regardless of Rooney's current form.

LvG obviously sees a lot in Young, especially with his new deal. Add the others you mentioned then add Pereira and Lingard and we don't need Pedro. A lot of attacking midfielders: with Mata, Adnan, Depay, Young and Lingard as choices on the wings we're fine there. I'd rather we focus on the upcoming players, Pedro is 28 - not ancient but getting on.
£22M better spent elsewhere. Despite Smalling's brilliant start we need a CB and we need a striker - badly. Rooney is shit, he isn't going to get 20 goals this season at this rate.

I agree with that, we could definitely do with another high quality winger. I just don't think it takes precedent over a striker and high quality a centre-back. All of our centre backs have been consistently inconsistent as well as fairly injury prone. Rooney hasn't made an encouraging start and behind him we are incredibly thin. Wilson clearly isn't ready and who knows how up for it Hernandez is after a couple of seasons of basically being ignored.

We're after a ball playing centre half, preferably a left footed one, we were never interested in Otamendi for that reason.
Whether we should have been interested in him or not is a completely different question, to be honest I have no idea whether he'd be a good signing or not, I've not seen anywhere near enough of him to make a judgement, but the clubs been denying stories from Spain about it all summer, the fact that the only people stupid enough to run a story about it are the likes of the Express/Mirror/Mail/Sun tells you all you need to know.

Hopefully we get a CB and a striker before the windows closes, but tbh I can't see us getting anyone.Not the end of the world if we don't, providing we don't have an injury crisis like last year.
