Sky Sports using FM stats for their reporting is kind of funny

I saw that, was such a load of crap. They also had a fantasy football champion on there too.

Fantastic.

Some claims in Spain say De Gea is going to sign a new contract. Would love it to happen. Obviously he'll still leave eventually, I imagine the contract will have an exit clause, but it'd be a brilliant 'fuck you' to Real.

Dunno, to be fair, the most likely outcome is he'll still leave on a free.

By most accounts though he doesn't particularly care about playing for Madrid, he's an Atleti boy at heart of course, but realises that to guarantee his place in the national team he needs to be playing for one of the big two. A fair amount of Spanish journalists have said that his desire to play for Real Madrid has gone thanks to the blasé nature with which they've dealt with the whole thing, whether thats just Spanish journalists venting their frustrations at Real or true is, obviously, anyones guess.

The biggest stumbling block, I would say, to the theory that he'd sign a new contract with a buy out clause is there's no guarantee whatsoever that Real would actually pay it. They've spent all summer fucking around when they knew that a bid of around €40m was always likely to be accepted, assumedly the buy out would be set at around about €50m, at least De Gea knows that he's going to get the move next summer if he doesn't sign, its all about whether he still wants to play for them.

Welbeck to undergo surgery which leads him to be out for several months. Funny thing is the club made this decision a week before the deadline shut. We are a fucking joke.

I don't think him signing a new contract will be so surprising. He's not going to risk being a benchwarmer this season if he wants to play in the Euros. So put an exit clause in the contract, if Madrid still want him and he still wants to join it can be sorted easily - rather than the farce this summer.

I understand his reasons for wanting to leave: he wants to be no.1 in Spain aka dethrone Casillas - and he has a chance to do that in the national team and at Iker's old club - one of the biggest in Spain. Plus of course his girlfriend lives there.

AS and COPE reporting he wants a new deal.

Be silly for both parties not to reach a "new deal" tbh. De Gea will get a big wage increase I'd imagine and an exit clause if Madrid still want him. So we'll be guaranteed something for him if he does leave and he'll be on bigger wages and have his future sorted even if Madrid don't come in for him next summer.

If he wants to be certain of a deal to Madrid then not signing a new deal and going for free will confirm this. Plus himself and his agent will make a lot more money if its a free transfer.

That is definitely true, the romantic part of my head likes to believe that he loves the club and wants us to get some money out of him for helping him develop. The reality could be that he does go on a free, but I could definitely see something like him signing a new deal, with a huge wage increase, and a release clause for the same price as whatever Madrid were gonna pay for him this window.

Also its crazy he isn't already Spain's number 1, regardless of whether he is at Madrid or not.

The only thing is that he's on a relative pittance because he never signed a new contract after signing with us initially, most estimates put it around about £50k basic. If he signed a new contract it would reflect his status as a first teamer, at the very least we're talking about a wage increase of £100,000 p/w and
a signing bonus.

At conservative estimates we're talking about a loss of about £5m if he doesn't sign a new contract.

Am I right in thinking that he can't go to another club until January now because he wasn't released during a transfer window?

We've been linked with Ayoze Perez today

Can't say he'd be my first choice, but what do the Newcastle fans think? Got enough talent to make it for us?

Nah, not really. He's good, but he's not that good.

He's not really a striker, a winger or an attacking midfielder as well.

Yeah he's lacking something to make it for the top top clubs I think.

He's still young so could develop I suppose, he's definitely our hottest prospect.

Think a move to Spurs/Everton would be better for him.

I guess being buddies with Peter Lim has its benefits.

I would've put my money on Phil getting promoted from assistant though.

How pissed off must Phil be?

Been appointed caretaker and first game against Barca and then your brother comes in and nicks your job.

Although, on second thoughts, maybe he's relieved?

I do miss that, having defected to BT over the summer. I know United are dull at the moment but it really isn't helped by Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen and Paul Scholes punditry!

I know it is a week or two old now, but I saw that Sinama Pongolle has signed for Dundee United! Didn't even know he was still playing.

How is he only 31? Thought he would've been way older than that, I remember seeing him score for Blackburn against Spurs once.

Aye that was his only goal for us. We played ace that game, but you won 3-2....that was the season it was you, Arsenal and us battling for 4th! Good times.

Our first goal in that game was awesome, Robbie Savage getting completely done by Robbie Keane

Pongolle was 17 when Liverpool first signed him. Players who break through when they are in their teens often end up seeming like they've been around forever, especially if their careers decline early.
