For a start, the lack of hair details means it probably won't be an improvement when compared to the current cut.
Secondly, there a number of things you can do a combination of to get a more natural colour:
- you can use the auto-contrast feature
- you can brighten the image
- you can tweak the levels (ctrl+l) to make the image a bit less dark
