BBC reporting Swansea have had a bid accepted for Kyle Naughton.

Are they going for the "Receive big money, invest it in sub-par tosh for all positions" routine Spurs and Liverpool have done?

He's just not very good at managing attacking players bar really Cisse - who had a very average 2 years so can't really include him either.

Pardew loves players that will run for 90 minutes, regardless of quality. That is all. They are the players he'll get the best out of. Not ones with actual talent.

Yeah - Cisse was wasted out wide in the first half of 2012/13 and then did virtually fuck all in 2013/14.

The only attacker he really managed that well was possibly our weakest in that period in Shola Ameobi. The fact he failed to even score in the Turkish Second Division misadventure hints he was playing at a level above and beyond his actual ability. Fuck knows what led to Pardew calling him "the Geordie Tevez" in his first half-season.

Curiously, Cabella has looked better since Pardew left. Which is one of the few bright spots of the post-Pards era at the very least, even if - as was the case before he pissed off - he needs a goal threat. The potential is there at the very least.

I don't rate chances created as a stat. And I'm pointing out the games where he's been given starts and played more than half. He hasn't delivered. He's creating and scoring less than other players. Seriously in half a season I can remember 3 moments of good play.

How has Cabella been mismanaged? By being given a starting role and him being dropped because he was playing poorly and Newcastle were losing every week? Until Ameobi and Obertan were brought in and results immediately improved?

I'd say part of our improvement for that run was not just because Cabella got dropped, and he did contribute two assists. It helped that Pardew changed his tactics for the first time in 2014 and also dropping Gouffran helped, as in a way did the injury to Tiote, who has been a liability both before and after his injury. Granted you wanna get more than a few assists for £12-oddmillion, but he's not completely hopeless. He's also better at ball retention than Sammy Ameobi, who seems to lose the ball almost as much as he does anything with it.

Before this season, we'd already seen Pardew failing to manage various attacking players well at various points so its plausible he'd fail to manage Cabella well too. I'd also say he's managed Riviere badly, or at least would if Riviere looked anything more than hopeless.

IHe didn't score or assist in any of these games;

3-0 vs. City
2-1 vs. Anderlecht
1-0 vs. West Brom
2-1 vs. West Ham

My mistake.
Anybody with a degree of footballing intelligence would rather have Cabella over Sammy Ameobi btw. And I'd stick Perez in over Obertan too - a good few games doesnt make up for years of awful.

4231

Krul

Janmaat Colo Taylor (although not good enough for anybody above survival level, imo) Santon

Colback Sissoko

Perez De Jong Cabella

Cisse

thats what id play. Perez and Cabella as more wide forwards than wingers.

Perez out wide doesn't work for me. Seems that whenever we shove him out there his influence fades.

I know Cabella's not been exactly brilliant, but he's not the waste of a shirt Gouffran normally counts, and can seem to control the ball better than Sammy Ameobi. I'm not disputing his output is less than Obertan's though, which is not a statement I thought I would say. Same with Aarons, even if he can't seem to stay fit for more than two games at a time.

Perhaps.

You would have thought with Bony going he might be preparing for a run in the first team rather than planning an exodus.

Hindsight is easy copy to file and easier clickbait in any case. I doubt you'll find a forum or media place without of it. Besides its a fairly circular lament that seems to be coming out every season that not enough is spent, and magnifying it here is inevitable - something like £50million extra was made in 2013/14 in TV money and selling Cabaye than on 2012/13, and yet reputedly less than £6million was the net spend this summer. Granted agent's fees and a presumably slightly larger wage bill probably accounted for a portion of the cash, but there's still enough in there for one striker/defender/delete as appropriate. Also I don't think anyone was that sad to see Luuk de Jong leave given how awful he was at Newcastle.

Least its not the conspiracy theory talk regarding a link between the £40million Ashley leant SportsDirect just before Christmas and that money that I recently saw somewhere online. Although I do wish he'd either buy Rangers or stop trying to interfere with them as its not helping.

Fletcher at £15million was basically pissing away cash.

Tbf the Guardian used the same lead that we tried to buy Bony, baulked at the asking price, and he duly scored twice in their win at SJP in April last year.

But frankly, who knows if its true or not. The amount of direction and misdirection means both could be.

Blimey Arsenal did a good job. Cazorla seems to have improved a lot after some fairly uninspiring displays earlier in the season.

Is this the first time this season Arsenal have won without Sanchez scoring or assisting?
Strongest team right now imo; Krul, Santon, Taylor, Colo, Janmaat, Abeid, Sissoko, Colback, Ameobi, Obertan, Cisse.

Elliot, Williamson, Dummett, Tiote, Taylor, De Jong, Perez,

Newcastle didn't create much but still created about the same as Southampton.

I hope Alan gives us a wave when he passes us by

I'd have that but with Cabella instead of Ameobi. Right now Tiote isn't playing well enough for the bench.

I'm expecting Pardew to win enough to get within a win of lapping us, then go on a long term losing run. Its something he seems prolific at.
Ah, Newcastle have officially left the early season, doomed for a relegation battle stage and entered the Newcastle is dying of apathy stage of the season. Great.

Is it that time of year already?
Abeid is injured isn't he? Thats why hes missing the AFCON.

Going to echo whats been said before about LVG needs to stop being so stubborn and get back to 4-4-2. Happy for Wilson, got a big big future.

Abeid was on the NUFC bench yesterday. With any luck he'll be in the starting 11 against Hull.

What's he going to do now? Peterborough lost again this afternoon.

He's been disappointingly mute.

Don't know how bad it was but the pitch for the Bury-Wycombe game looked absurd.

Yeah I'm still not sure what the fuck the assistant was doing.
Carver specifically in this game.

Thought it was an OK performance. Carver didn't do much wrong and probably deserved a point against quite a good side. Thought Anita was decent again, Cabella began to show a bit more before fading in the second half and Haidara recovered well to actually have a good game.

Hopefully in a couple of weeks De Jong, Santon, Abeid, Sammy, Jonas, R Taylor and Obertan will all be fit enough.

Its a problem that I've felt for many seasons with Pardew, which is a lack of attacking plan and urgency. Yes, bodies are going forward, but you never get the sense there is a cohesive strategy. Doubly so given that the only goal came from a fluke for a player who hadn't scored in almost 2 whole days worth of football.

It wasn't a terrible performance, and there were players who did well enough. It still wasn't that good though. Janmaat was terrible, Coloccini was poor again and Sissoko was a passenger. I'm not sure about Anita being decent, but he wasn't as terrible as was he was against Leicester, and Gouffran was certainly better than most of his non-events in 2014.

What does our strongest 11 look like? There's quite a few possible tactics and selections when everyone's first - once in a lifetime occurrence, mind - and certainly it does require a slight shift to put SDJ in that number 10 role. Abeid certainly has to go in front of Tiote, although I bet whoever's in charge when both are back will be picking Tiote for another one of his liability games. Still need a new CB though.

Also, are we good enough to keep our of the relegation battle? There are plenty of social media abusing tosspots who think we should be because we thought Pardew needed removing before he dragged us there, but that bottom 3 is getting uncomfortably closer.

What did you think he did wrong?

Pardew or Carver?

The problem is that tactically there's not much different, except possibly the inclusion and run for Cabella. Granted this game saw the luck go a smidgeon against with the Janmaat deflection and the handball ignorance on 90+1, but there were moments were it felt that Newcastle could go to 5am and not score.

Who cares? FFP is nothing but a protectionist measure from big clubs anyway.

If it was properly done there'd have been bigger punishments than the ones Man City ever did.
Roma are trying to negotiate a deal where they pay less than the 5.5m they've contractually obliged to if they play him in one more game. That's why he's been dropped I think.

He's looked superb in the CL for them this year, I'd love him to be given a proper chance at centre back here but it's never really gonna happen.

I was under the assumption that since the 7-1 hiding by Bayern Munich he'd not been quite as good as he had been until then.

Man City sign Bony for £25million, potentially rising to £28million.

Be interesting to see if he is able to meet the potential, and also if it fucks up Man City's FFP even more.
Janmaat > Debuchy anyway.

I guess but missing six months of the campaign with injury is not nice to see, particularly the injuries he got.

Still annoyed he looked better at CB against us than of our CB's have for most of the season.

Saw around a dozen Lyon home games last season, all of which were obviously under Garde. And to be honest I never came away thinking that I'd seen a great performance or that Lyon had played well, even when they won. Very cautious at times too, even when 1-0 up against a minnow, whereas this season it appears they've been let off the leash a bit more and are now hammering teams and are top, scoring loads.

Obviously he can't be judged on just last season, he'd been there for around 3 years previously, but just thought it would be useful info.

Sounds a bit like the bulk of our wins in 2011/12 tbf.
Remember when we sold them both in the summer, along with Krul, Santon, Tiote etc.?

Pointless getting upset over rumours, which haven't happened yet.

Tbf we play better with Tiote out of the team so I doubt I'd be that opposed to him going.

I'm usually fine with waiting until rumours happen or not, but its annoying we always seem to be linked with selling a key player or 3.

Rumour that Papiss Cisse is one of Swansea's targets to replace Bony.

Do we ever plan to go one window without selling anyone? Sure, if we get £10million, not a bad deal, but selling Sissoko and/or Cisse without a replacement in mind - again - is a fucking silly idea.

First time at home I think since 2009.

The stat floating around said that was during a 0-0 draw with Arsenal that confirmed their third Premier League title in a row.

Slightly less glamorous circumstances today. Although weird to think that was Ronaldo and Tevez's last MUFC home game.

For some reason I thought they won Ligue 1 the season before he started.

Can't compete with Montpellier and Lille. #GardeExcuseGenerator #GardeOut #ChangingoftheGarde

Tbf there was a point when they seemed to have it reserved. But no Ligue 1 for Lyon since 2008, although they do have the French record of 7 in a row, which is not bad given the first of those seven was their first ever Ligue 1 title.

Cabella is the best player in the world to have contributed to less goals than Mike Williamson this season. Had quite a good game yesterday mind, but that doesn't make his earlier season performance good.

No idea if Remi Garde is any good, seemed to transform Lyon from title winners to Europa League regulars in a short space of time, and Lyon seem to have kicked on without him. But at least he seems to want the job, rather than fucking about like de Boer. Don't know why it's taking so long though.

Lyon stopped winning Ligue 1's long before Garde turned up. He simply seemed to expand their remit from regular top 3 to top 5, but given they've had major financial cutbacks and sold a lot of key players (Lloris, Lovren and Pjanic, for examples), it could have been worse. Who knows why its taking so long though..
I rate him very highly, just seems very inconsistent.

He has since Tweeted he's not leaving this month and rumours he would be aren't to be believed.

Written press claiming that Remi Garde is going to be confirmed this week. Not the wost appointment, but then I don't follow much French football so I'll await to see for sure if he's any good, assuming he's mad enough to sign up.

Meanwhile, some "Business Consultant" on Twitter is claiming a £245million takeover is in the works. Doubt it.

At least MacAnthony seems more ready and willing to be ready to show something interesting, and a slightly more fun meltdown in motion than more sedate contemporaries in both the boardroom and dugout. After just 11 goals in 20 games and only managing one shot on target against bottom side Leicester, I wouldn't call #LambertOut being fickle.

If Lamberk wasn't given a new three year deal just a few months ago after that bright start to the season I'm sure he would be gone by now. Unfortunately it would cost more than Lerner will likely be willing to pay to terminate that contract.

To be fair I sympathise - since 2012/13, Villa and Newcastle have had similarly bad league records. There are stats that show our record is little better than Villa's, and for those two and a half years, Villa have endured some appalling form. But there was a zeal in the way press cut into us for wanting Pardew dismissed, and I know Villa fans think Lambert is shit despite those in the board saying he keeps stability or bullshit to that effect, so I'm waiting for the press to say similar articles.

In fairness to Villa fans, Lambert is terrible. That new deal at the start of the campaign looks really stupid right now, and your upcoming fixture list looks like a challenge.
