Leicester look a lot like Newcastle last season, with N'Golo Kante here, playing exactly like Gini Wijnaldum.

Pickford, Denayer, O'Shea, Djilobodji, van Aanholt, McNair, Kirchhoff, Ndong, Watmore, Gooch, Asoro

Careful, there Moyesy, don't be too gung ho. Two attacking minded players is more than enough.

Shelvey looked genuinely good on the highlights. Perez looks back to his best as well.

Good to see us finally actually attacking teams and looking like we can score from open play.

Yeah I agree that it fucked you in terms of their fullbacks then getting forward and swarming the midfield. Pisses me off how some media is making Guardiola out as some genius by asking his fullbacks to go forward and centre and wingers to stay out wide, when they'll get smashed by a team with good wingers and high pressing (ironically I want to see us play them see if they keep the system.. ). Also they seem to switch off / struggle as the games go on, go 2-0 up against you and West Ham and almost collapse. Suppose it's good they still bring the win through

Jesus.

Wish we'd play much higher up. People seem to be satisfied we're controlling the game, but I'm not so sure - think we're still getting a lot of fortunate bounces. and relying on our individuals being better than they're individuals.

Think we'd have been a lot more comfortable putting Mitrovic on and trying to play in Derby's half.

The individual performances are fine, but I think we's see a lot more out of Diame, Ritchie and Gayle if we were on the front foot more.

Yeah basically. He's basically lying.

But the alternative is laughing at a deceased man, in the vice grip of the disease that killed him. And even if these stories kill on the after dinner speaking circuit - its a bit off that the mainstream media seem to have found the story hilarious and fair game rather than just plain sad.

Dean Saunders lying about Clough is a bit bizarre isn't it?

Weird how its went viral and seen as hilarious in the first place. Rather than just being seen as sad.

We already had that about five years ago Back then the priority among 'the fans' was shifting Williamson, Taylor, Shola, Jonas, Simpson, Routledge - as long as the replacements were 'more ambitious' - now we're celebrating the signings of lesser players as a pioneering new strategy. I remember people insisting the 'good' players like Sissoko were bad because they were forced to play with lesser players ffs. This compared to much more successful clubs with less resources such as Southampton and Swansea who retained their squads and evolved rather than trying to 'upgrade' immediately.

My problem with Newcastle is that I've felt that arrogance and hubris have been the core problem - I think that the club are continuing on with that rather than actually attempting to find solutions. - Riviere is that point incarnate he had a shite four months - and has been an outcast ever since. - You're criticising him again - but we've bought in Clark, Atsu and Murphy - guys who also couldn't hack the Premier League and had far longer to do so.

See also Gouffran - Benitez spent all summer trying to shift him - until he's forced to play him - and then has to do a 180 because he's better than what he's got.

Yeah - I mean, its all well and good saying we're buying lower quality players, but that supposedly "higher quality" squad got relegated, a fair few of them weren't going to stay, and we're also in a lower quality league. Besides, if we go back up, we'll presumably readjust accordingly.

The maxim if you buy Champhionship players you'll become a Championship club is fairly true. Either Benitez is solidifying us as a mid table Championship team. Or at best we're going to need massive overhaul in the summer. If you believe the club raking in cash and buying lower quality players is a good thing then fair play to you.

Aye I don't think the signings we'd make now would cut it in the Premier League.

But we're in the Championship.

I think you're reading a lot more into the interviews than Sissoko said. Yeah he shouldn't repeatedly give interviews in France talking about his ambitions, but they weren't particularly revealing - they were generally I want to play for a bigger team some day, hopefully Arsenal , I also really want to play for France at Euro 2016. I think there was always an agreement to stay until Euro 2016 and then he would leave afterwards - and I got the impression he genuinely has never agitated for a move. - Much prefer Sissoko to some badge kisser, constantly patronising the fans, about how much they love the club and clearly don't. He's hardly the first player to give interviews in there native country - iirc Laurent Robert used to give far more critical ones

If you believe that JFK was actually in charge of transfers and that Pardew willfully decided to blame everything on his most talented player than you're extremely naive. Ben Arfa completely lost interest in playing Newcastle. Sort of hilarious that he is in all honestly the exact poison of modern football, yet is seen as the romantic alternative to modern football. Remy did become unpopular, but he wasn't at the time, and fans would have been delighted if he signed even after a summer of clearly not wanting to.

Fair play to Lee Charnley and Rafa Benitez, they've managed to rake in the cash, Slash the wage bill, sell of the bigger name players and smile while doing so.

It's absolutely phenomenal - Newcastle fans have claimed for years that we must get rid of the likes of Gosling, Williamson, Routledge and Simpson, and that is was an insult to witness them play football. - now they're actively celebrating the idea of signing average players.

Newcastle were considered immoral for not paying through the nose for players who didn't want to be here. Now Rafa understands the fans. And the fans want a squad that won't survive in the Premiership.

Last time 'Jack' went on loan it was to a young progressive coach who played football the right way. A chilling glimpse into the future for Eddie Howe.7

Feel sorry for Sissoko, he's never cared about playing football for Newcastle, but neither did Debuchy, Remy, Cabaye, Wijnaldum or Ben Arfa and they got zero shit for it.

Chronicle have really, really embarrassed themselves with Gouffran.

They posted 'hilarious' reaction gifs, when he scored in a preseson game, posted the same 'hilarious' reaction gifs when he was handed his first start of the season, posted loads of articles about how Rafa needs to clear out the deadwood etc.

Now they're posting bollocks like this "

So promising when he first signed, Yoan Gouffran looks to have finally recovered from being "Pardewed"" "The second half started with a volley from a Mo Diame cross. The Gouffran of last season would not have tried something like that."

He didn't fucking play last season.

It's simple what happened - we signing him he was good, he struggled a bit when the tactics where changed and it didn't suit him, Pardew tried to shoehorn him into the middle and it didn't work. Carver, McClaren and Benitez haven't been forced to play him out of position / overlook him for the past 18 months.

He's a good player, he always has been one. It's mass hysteria that he wasn't.

Genuine comment on Newcastle signing Daryl Murphy

"Well Manure signed that Frank Zappa lookalike Ibramovitch or whatever he's called and he's older than Murphy."

There are very little differences in Daryl Murphy and Zlatan Ibrahimovic when you think about it.

You not at the match?

Hayden was good today - Shelvey was actually quite decent as well (he even ran around), although I still think neither of them really know how to control the midfield. Tbf I said Hayden was out of his depth, since the Reading game he has actually looked settled, and he looks much better for it.

Lascelles and Mbemba playing well is a big thing as well. We should walk the division if they play like that all season.

Dummett having Knockaert with ease today, who'd of thought?

Did he ever even play? You've certainly made some odd signings from Ligue 1 the last few years.

Played twice. Looked like he didn't actually know how to play centre midfield, which is fair enough as he was a winger until about three months before the season. Was heralded as superb by some, as he was a new signing.

Apparently Benitez didn't allow him to take part in training because of his lack of ability.

Still not the worst transfer of that window.

"David Moyes admits Sunderland are likely to find themselves in another Premier League relegation battle this season."

Two games in, what inspiring leadership.

Really? He's inherited a weak squad, which is incredibly thin, and has no real money to spend. - A relegation battle was always absolutely inevitable. Moyes / Sunderland have signed four players for a combined £5.5m. A good manager will keep them just clear of the drop, a bad one will get sacked with Sunderland set to go down on about 27 points.

Mourinho is shite resorted to buying Pogba and Zlatan to cover up his lack of managerial talent etc...

Not even sure if underrated is the right word - ore like seems ignored by the mainstream press. Which is a shame I'd love to know if the prick has bought his mam a house, and if his car is too arrogant for a player of his standing.

He was much improved. His ball for the final goal was excellent. Still big issue of whenever Reading did get the ball forward in central positions we were all at sea, completely played through us. Shelvey again absolutely embarrassing for their goal.

Reading were really bad though. They seemed really naive and wanted to play nice football but without any idea on how to do so. And thankfully Benitez made a slightly more sensible team selection with a front four pretty much in their positions. Still far, far too negative though.

Nowt like an overreaction is there

You threw a hissyfit when we were in 8th in the Premier League. We're now in the lowest position of my lifetime.

Shevley is an absolute hindrance, and Hayden is massively out of his depth. If he was a youth teamer rather than a new signing people would be demanding he go out on loan. It's very early days for him, but I can't see the logic in bringing in someone who barely played for Hull last year, as a first team starter in the most important position.
