Some progress has been made but we play less long ball with Shola out of the team.

Absolute balls. The main reason is Cabaye not playing.

The ticket revenue has fell because the attendances have fell, prices are very similar.

We spent heavily in January because we were in severe danger of being relegated - we didn't spend at the start of the season when it was neccesary.

While the average attendance at St. James' Park has risen to 49,936 - an increase of 2,190 on last year, ticket revenue has fallen by 7% after the club froze season ticket prices with its ten and nine-year season ticket deal and continued its commitment to making football affordable through a variety of ticketing initiatives

Spurs finished fifth last year and spent £0 in this window net, so will therefore be relegation candidates?

Since finishing 5th, Newcastle have spent a further £17m on transfers, net. So Newcastle have definitely 'reinforced' the squad. While the club repaid Ashley £11m. Newcastle's ticket revenue has also fallen, due to ticket pricing schemes, to make footballer a bit cheaper for the regular football fans.

Repaying the loan needs to be done. And there will never be a 'right' time to do it. Fans will always think deferring the loan another year is the right option.

I know our football hasn't been fantastic, but I was pointing out that Newcastle have done the least amount of long balls, while you're saying Newcastle are a long ball team. (And also most combined crosses and through balls)

He has over £100m of his own personal money sunk into the club. - And has waived loan repayments and interest. How is that not spending money? I'm presuming a lot of the additional TV money was spent on January and to cover the increased wage bill. And the rest will go towards paying off Ashley. I'm much more comfortable with Newcastle being prudent, with the clubs money, rather than loading up on debt and pushing our wage bill to unsustainable levels.

I don't understand how you can be bored watching Newcastle. I've literally never been bored watching Newcastle in the league, no matter how bad the performance is, I'm far too emotionally invested. Anyway Newcastle's football has been fantastic this season according to the stats. Least long balls and second most crosses and through balls. Which is extremely impressive considering we've only actually turned up for two of the three games.

Anyway I can't be arsed to argue about players.

My main problem with Newcastle is the fans protest movement and how none of them ever actually use facts or logic. And absolutely 100% focused on the short term. Newcastle is the second most indebted club in the Premier League (net) after Man United, only because of the Glazer's leveraged takeover, and third (gross) because Arsenal bought a new stadium.

From 2012 - http://swissramble.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/newcastle-united-life-in-northern-town.html

Net debt fell last season from £150 million to £130 million, comprising a £140 million loan from Mike Ashley less £10 million cash balances. Since Ashley arrived, the gross debt has significantly increased from £77 million in 2007, though he also had to clear the mortgage on the ground. Importantly, the club now has no external debt (it had a £36 million overdraft as recently as 2009), which not only provides more stability, but has also saved considerable sums in interest payments. These were £6.5 million in 2007, but would now be around £11 million a year following the rise in debt.

Although Newcastle’s annual report initially stated that Ashley’s loans would carry interest at LIBOR + 0.5%, since 2009 they have all been classified as non-interest bearing. The 2010 accounts said that £12.3 million was repayable in August 2010, £16.5 million after more than a year and the remainder on demand, but no repayments have actually been made to date – though it is likely Ashley will want the loans repaid at some stage.

The previous ownership had mortgaged Newcastle to the hilt, securing loans on virtually all the club’s assets (training ground) and future income streams (TV, sponsorship), and also left Ashley with deferred transfer payments of £36 million, some of which was owed on players who had left the club. Following the implementation of a new policy whereby transfers fees are paid up front, the club is now owed £5 million.

Despite his occasional crass behaviour, there is no doubt that Mike Ashley has put his hand in his pocket to keep the club going, as its cash flow has been consistently negative before his financing. There is still much distrust of the owner, leading Llambias to emphasise in the results statement, “Once again, Mike has not taken any money out of the club.” In fact, he has invested £273 million in total, made up of £133 million to acquire Newcastle plus £140 million of loans.

People conveniently forget these things, or never bother to learn them in the first place. And then fucking pine back to the days of Freddy Shepherd, when the club was actually used as a cash cow.

Since Newcastle United were floated on the Stock Exchange in April 1997 the Hall family and Freddy Shepherd have earned from the club as follows:

Sales of shares by Cameron Hall, Sir John and Douglas Hall's company:

December 1998 Sold 6.3% to NTL: £10m

December 1999 Sold 3.26% to NTL: £5.28m

December 1999 Douglas Hall sold 0.39% to NTL: £0.57m

June 2003 Sold 11.4% to Newcastle United itself: £4.5m

Total earned by Hall family in sales of Newcastle United shares £20.35m

Sales of shares by Freddy Shepherd Nil

Shepherd and his brother, Bruce, have increased their shareholding, via their company, Shepherd Offshore, from 7% at the time of flotation to 28% now

Dividends paid by Newcastle United plc to shareholders 1998-2005

Total to Halls: £13,698,280

Total to Shepherds: £5,489,239

Salary packages paid

Year Hall Shepherd

1999 £23,533 £23,533

2000 £35,000 £75,000

2001 £110,000 £232,868

2002 £524,257 £591,639

2003 £591,667 £668,920

2004 £635,465 £717,145

2005 £495,951 £552,954

Total £2,415,873 £2,862,059

Totals made from Newcastle United

Sir John, Douglas and Cameron Hall: £36,466,153

Freddy Shepherd and Shepherd Offshore: £ 8,351,298

Total £44,817,451

Ashley has over £100m in the club in loans and is waiving interest and delaying repayment, where as Shepherd was taking fortunes out of the club, in dividends and salaries. (iirc he was the biggest paid director by miles), while mortgaging the club to the hilt.

If we had Shepherd we would have probably bought in another couple of signings, secured against future TV revenues etc, while Shepherd made sure he was well remunerated and pushed the club closer to the brink. Ashley might not be perfect but he's still being held back by the absolute mess that the previous 'regime' left behind.

I think the contingency plan would be to move Santon to RB and have Haidara/Dummett to step up at LB. I would have liked a new RB for sure though.

Shola offers absolutely loads to a club like Newcastle, as a squad player.

Pardew's bound to want more signings. It's not his money, of course he's going to want more strikers.

Newcastle replaced Simpson with Debuchy. I don't have a clue what the thinking was on getting rid of Perch, maybe they want Anita or Bigirimana to step up.

Shola has probably MOTM against Fulham and West Ham aside from Colo. He was absolutely miles better than Darren Bent anyway.

If the club rates Jonas as a key figure, then you can't really criticise the recruitment policy. The club value him highly, why would they sign someone who they don't think is as good to replace him?

I think the vast majority of the cases were that Newcastle wouldn't pay the money or they wanted to go somewhere else. Plus a lot of them may just be rumours or made up by agents or whatever. And I suspect Newcastle only really wanted one of Remy/Gomis/Bent.

2011 was our fifth best finish in the past 50 years. And people still went into the season moaning. And thinking about relegation.

There is anger, bitterness and hostility, but mainly there is just disillusionment and weariness that a proud football club is again making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

2013 articles are basically carbon copy of 2011 articles. The only way to shut the boo boys up, is to win a few games, make new signings or make a populist move, like appointing a popular manager. It's why Newcastle are the joke club.

The fact he said "Judge me by my signings" and said we'd sign three, and then promptly sign one on loan, is an invitation to judge him in a negative way. So that's what a lot of fans are doing.

OK - It's too soon to tell, but Remy seems a really good signing. B+.

Also interesting is how many fans don't seem to consider loan players as 'signings' and don't seem to consider money spent on loan fees as spending money. Especially considering it's not hard to see why Newcastle wanted him on loan.

The point of the transfer window, is to try and strengthen the squad, get rid of deadwood and replace any outgoings. Not to sign as many players as possible. And definitely not to scramble round on deadline day trying to sign anyone, which Newcastle didn't do.

anticipated influx of bright new talent failing to materialise. Mevlut Erdinc may still join from Paris Saint Germain

Grass is always greener. As Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye aren't good enough for Newcastle. And Demba Ba certainly isn't as good as Erdinc, currently a Ligue 1 journeyman.

Newcastle United fans get a real sinking feeling after the Mutiny on Tyne
Newcastle United supporters are used to turmoil, only they normally have to wait for the season to start before things begin to disintegrate.

Few clubs do unwanted drama better than Newcastle United, but even by their standards this summer is turning into something spectacular.

The extent of Newcastle's ambition seems to be mid-table Premier League safety. It is sustainable and it can probably be achieved with the players at Pardew's disposal, but it will do little to generate goodwill among fans who can still remember watching their team in the Champions League.

There is an ugly, potentially poisonous atmosphere building and there is also growing concern about the damage inflicted by such a fractious summer.

A solid return to the Premier League last season is in danger of being wasted, the team spirit that got them there eroded and the anticipated influx of bright new talent failing to materialise.

It is far too soon to write Newcastle United off, their new signings may click, their number one target, Mevlut Erdinc may still join from Paris Saint Germain, but it is relegation battles, not European pushes, which are starting to occupy minds.

There is anger, bitterness and hostility, but mainly there is just disillusionment and weariness that a proud football club is again making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

I've seen the first two episodes of Veep and I agree. It feels far too sanitised. I also don't believe the dialogue, if you know what I mean? Like I don't believe the characters would swear like that at each other.

Although I haven't seen enough to judge the characters. But Buster Bluth is Buster Bluth. Totally typecast, he can't play anyone other than Buster Bluth.

Newcastle had five first teamers missing against West Ham and Fulham. Remy/Taylor/Tiote/Cabaye/Jonas.

I don't even think Kinnear is justifying his position, I think Newcastle fans need a reality check. and need to stop believing that Kinnear is a villain, on a one man mission to ruin the club. I just can't be arsed with all the protests and conspiracy theories. I doubt Kinnear has any power in the club anyway. So far he just seems to be a scout.

It's the best squad imo in the past 8 season or so of me being a season ticket holder.

Good to see Kinnear will be sacked tomorrow!

Obviously, Newcastle only making one signing, was purely down to him. Nothing at all due to Newcstle not wanting to make any more signings or spend any money.

If only we had Baldini or Begiristain, imagine Lamela, Negredo and Jovetic in Newcastle shirts.

I also blame the local media, why can't they get an interview with a reclusive billionaire, explaining why he's such a cunt? Ryder/Ashley could be a great movie!
