#214889 Tongey's Travels.

01.11.15
So after a few months of travelling around Denmark with my Fruit and Veg stall trying to make as much money as I could, I got a call from the Chairman of a GVI or also known as: Gentofte-Vangede Idrætsforening but I will just call them GVI. I was to become their new manager with immediate effect. You can view the club information below:
So with 13 games gone in the sister league to my previous team and a fair few games left to play I sit 3rd bottom of the league with a huge 12 points. I am aiming to battle relegation once again. Lets hope this happens this time.
Next up will be my first games in charge and a team report once I find an assistant manager to judge their potential.

Kolding IF are down.
So first bit of bad news, this happened after a run of 6 straight defeats in the league in which we have had no pleasing performances.
So then I decided that before I got sacked, I would go out on my own terms. I resigned as Manager of Kolding IF.
Now to decided whether to stay in Denmark and battle on with the lower leagues or move onto a new country and challenge.

Thanks Dan, I'm enjoying Denmark, however there seems to be about 4 teams from my town, which provides a split fanbase
simoncoyne I thought that when I first saw them, I was leaving it up to someone to point it out to the rest haha!

1st Season Update
So i've played my first 9 games after the mid season break and you can see the results below. I'm quite happy with how we've done considering we are meant to be going down and clearly don't have much quality but some of the performances have been quite pleasing. Still we could do with some more wins but that will come with time.
Results
FC Sydvest
Marienlyst
Skovbakken
Middlefart
Bra brand IF
[
Odder
Kolding BK
Kjellerup
And after these results, with 6 games to go, we have moved up a place and are still in a captivating relegation battle with 6 teams. This should be an interesting end to a season.

November 2014
Jammerbugt FC (A)
So this wasn't the ideal way to start, with all the goals in the first half my team did well to not concede any more in the second half but I am not at all happy with the result or the performance. I will perhaps put it down to the fact that the team ar having to learn a new tactic and formation. Jammerbugt were 3rd in the league so it's no surprise we lost but I wish we had performed better.
FC Svendborg (H)
A much better performance and a terrific comeback from the lads. Again Svendborg are in the top 5 in the league so to grab a draw and a well earned point is pleasing. The performance pleased me with the team starting to learn the tactic.
The league table hasn't really changed much with us still 2nd bottom of the league having gained only a single point. We are still only a single win from safety so I'm hoping to escape the relegation zone as soon as I can.

The club plays it's home football at the Kolding Stadion and supply their trade in the 2nd Division West of Denmark. Playing in front of an average of 15 season ticket holders and their dogs the club is worth around £600k
Now for the important part, the club is currently 13 games into the current season and sit 2nd bottom with 11 points. The board want me to achieve a mid table position at least and I think we can do this. Hopefully I can start off well and create some momentum and who knows...we are only 15 points off the league leaders with 16 games remaining.
So the team as it stands doesn't have that much quality, but my two CBs seem to be the best at the club so I will look to be solid at the back and then work forward. Of course as it's an amateur club I can always bring players in whenever I want which I will look to do in order to create a more rounded squad. Hopefully Friis upfront can score a few for me as he has the best recommendation from my assistant.
I'll update when we hit the Winter break, but first, the small matter of my first three games of my management career.

04.11.14
After living in a moderately nice 1 bedroom flat in the middle of Copenhagen for a few months and trying to get by on the little income that I was earning selling fruit and veg at the local market, it was time to get my name out and about in the world of Danish Football. It wasn't long until I had an interview and then that interview turned into my first job offer.
Kolding IF had approached me to fill the vacant managers role. It was only a few days after I had attended the interview which I thought had gone particularly well. The board expects me to finish mid table with no agreed philosophies. They expect me to keep the Director of Football and all of the backroom staff which was discussed in the interview. These backroom staff will hopefully help me settle in the area and into my new surroundings. They also don't want me to apply for other jobs which I have no intention of doing until I have won the league with them.
So I signed my contracts which isn't pretty to look at. An amateur contract on £0 a week. I will hope to get this changed asap as I will have to keep on working at the fruit and veg stay to keep my income coming in.
I will be posting the state of the club with league tables, club information and team information in the next update.

I present to you...
Mark Tonge, born and bred in Northwich, just outside of Manchester in rural Cheshire. Growing up watching the beautiful attractive football of Northwich Victoria, one of the oldest football teams in the land, and the world. I am 21 year old manager with only Sunday League experience behind me.
I have decided to give myself no coaching qualifications which mirrors my real life, giving me the very lowly stats you see above. Hopefully as my journey evolves my stats will follow suit.
Now to move to Denmark and find myself a job...hopefully.

So here I am again, after failing to save my game and then my computer crashing, I've set out on my European dream once again. I will be following in the footsteps of fellow managers Dan and Shedender and aiming to win every trophy available, firstly in Europe and then in the world one continent at a time.
I will be setting up my game with one nation loaded at a time in order for my game to run smoothly and quickly enough, then once I have gained success in the loaded league I can load up my next victims. For this career, I will be looking at starting in Denmark and moving on, to who knows where, but wherever it is, I will be taking my lucky backpack which will be filled with my trophy photo album and my thermos flask full of hot bovril.
So here goes, next up will be my Manager Profile.

5 Relegation places in the league, and only two promotion sports up for grabs. A few more signings needed to create more rotation as my squad is tired.
Thanks Bukinapreto, I know it was a short stint, hoping to have a bit more success and stability here.

Sport and Leisure (H) 4-4 League
A game that was definitely end to end, and to be honest a little disappointed that we ended up only gaining a point after we were leading with 8 minutes to go. Selfridge continued his goalscoring form with 2 more. A point gained however is another point closer to promotion and the title. (Hopefully)
Knockbreda (A) 2-1 Steel Cup 3rd Round
A tough match up against a team in the league above and I was getting far ahead of myself went we took the lead and I decided to go defensive to try and shut up shop. Big mistake as they came back with a goal and then scored in the final minute of the game which was a real killer. Good performance however.
Lurgan Celtic (A) 0-6 League
A fantastic performance once again in the league, and we looked awesome both in defence and up top. Not much more to say about this game but we were by far the better team. 3 points well earned.
Glebe (A) 2-2 League
Conceding late goals is something that is starting to annoy me and I'm looking to address that after another one here. Shame to not win but again another point gained. However I do see it as 2 points dropped.
Coagh Utd (H) 3-4 League
What an absolute spectacle this game was. 1-1 going into the final 10 minutes then 2 goals for Coagh pull them ahead and put them as the likely winners, but then two goals in two minutes for me and we are right back in it looking the more dangerous, but then once again a last minute goal punishes us. We have to stop doing this.
So not a bad month, but not exactly a good one either. 5th in the league and 7 points a drift of the title. Need to improve in defence and stop conceding late on.

Annagh Utd (H) 2-3 League
Not the ideal start to the league campaign but nevertheless I was very pleased with what I saw from my bunch of players. A well fought game that could have gone either way but at the end of the day we came away with no points. After going ahead our defence gave way and conceded 3 goals before we could get another.
Limavady Utd (H) 2-1 Irish League Cup 1st Round
A much better result after a very pleasing performance. McQuillan scored an absolute peach of a free kick to tie the game and then a Rory Carson goal midway through the second half earnt us a win in the cup. We go marching on.
Tobermore Utd (A) 0-3 League
A brace from super striker Selfridge and a late goal from Ally Young was enough to earn us our first win in the league campaign against a strong Tobermore Utd team. A game which was all square and tight in the first half then exploded into life for us and we capitalised on their poor defending.
Ards Rangers (A) 0-4 Steel Cup 2nd Round
A fantastic performance in a game I thought would be a lot closer but, one in which we controlled. I had asked the lads to control the game from the start and they duly delivered after scoring, with the opposition never looking threatening. New boy Andy Moore grabbed his 1st goal for the club.
Ballymoney Utd (A) 4-1 Irish League Cup 2nd Round
With that, our league cup run comes to an end. It was short and sweet but I expected better against Balleymoney. After a strong performance in the previous match I was very disappointed with the showing they put on.
Ballyclare (H) 5-1 League
Back to winning ways against one of the pre season favourites for the league. An epic performance from Selfridge earned him 4 goals and an assist. He's quickly becoming my go to man up top and currently leads the way in league scoring with 7 goals in 3 games. Not to bad if I say so myself.
So after all that, it left us in 3rd position in the league after 3 games, which is more than I could have asked for. However we are out of one cup but still in another and still to enter the main Irish Cup. Lots of promising signs and hopefully we can kick on and claim one of the two promotion spots available.

Yeah not the best of starts, but hoping to build with Comber! Thanks Dan.
Cheers Shedder, good luck in Austria, I will join you there as soon as my N. Ireland career is up.
Never mind eh, onwards and upwards (or downwards). Cheers Johno
Cheers George!

A few weeks later and this happened.
YES I AM NOW THE PROUD MANAGER OF COMBER REC.
Playing in the Belfast Telegraph Division Two, I am expected to achieve a safe mid table position but I am looking to win the league of course (Maybe a bit unrealistic but who knows)
Here is the Club Information, and the current Squad.
Let's hope that Northern Ireland is a better fit than Hungary for me.
#213499 Trophy Hunter: European Assignment

I couldn't keep the team in the division and after a string of some very poor results and a horrible starting position the inevitable happened.
This is how the league ended up, a mere 3 points off safety, but also rock bottom of the league after losing the last game of the season to the team who finished above me.
Back to the jobs board and somehow paying my rent in a Hungarian shack.
#213491 Trophy Hunter: European Assignment
tongey
So after many months (11 to be exact) of searching for a possible manger job, and having attended many an interview but being unsuccessful, I received my first ever job offer.
Soproni VSE have decided to take a punt on me, and they can't exactly be doing any worse, sitting 2nd bottom of the league with only a few games to go.
League Table and Fixtures
So my first aim is to keep the team in the league and then to build a team capable of winning the division to the highest league.
#213471 Trophy Hunter: European Assignment

I have never actually stuck to this challenge before but for some reason I feel determined to stick to it this time. I have loaded up one league at a time in order for the game to run as fast and smoothly as possible. For an unknown reason I have decided to start off in Hungary which should be an interesting place to start off as I have never managed there before.
So here goes, a young English manager, born in the little town of Northwich, starting off with no previous management experience and only Sunday League Experience on the pitch who fancies himself as a 'Tactical Manager.'

AUGUST UPDATE
3 wins out of 5 to start off the league campaign is a great way to kick it off. We've played some good attacking football and kept it reasonably tight at the back.
The first game against Feirense ended up being a 5-2 victory with my replacement striker Silva grabbing a first half hat trick, which gives me something to think about when my main striker comes back from injury. Dominated this game from start to finish.
Second up was Leixoes who I played in the cup a few games ago, and we just about scraped a 1-0win with the same low possession as per usual. A win is a win though and I'll take that every time.
Maritimo B were up next and another rout came with it as a 5-1 victory came with it. 5 different scorers including an own goal helped me on the way. Very impressive victory against a team who have some support from the premier league team.
Oliveirense are quickly becoming my bogey team and it was a game that I never really looked like winning even though we went 1-0 up. A draw was perhaps a fair result so with 1-1 I was fairly happy.
Last up in August was Covilha and another draw this time 0-0. I wasn't pleased with the performance as I know I could have beaten them since we beat them a few weeks before. Crucial points dropped perhaps?
I'm top of the league but the teams behind me have a game in hand so that will probably change, but I'm more than happy with my position thus far.

TACE DE LIGE UPDATE
So Phase 1 of the league cup happens before the seasons actually kicks off so gives me something to focus on before having the wear and tear of the league season upon me.
The first match went according to plan with a 1-0 victory against Covilha however a disappointing performance by my boys who only managed a low 46% of possession and on another day Covilha could have quite easily taken their chances and beaten us, but nevertheless 3 points in the phase.
The second match against Leixoes was a better performance, which ended in another 1-0 victory with my main striker Fidalgo bagging a goal. Once again the possession was down at 46% which is something I may look at trying to improve as it could be a problem in the league.
The final game in the group against Oliveirense ended up with a 2-1 defeat which was disappointing to see, again the possession was low ending up at 43% and in the end either team could have won but Oliveirense took their chances and we didn't.
In the end though we qualified from the group and will await the draw for the next round.
I've also had this good news which should aid my financial state going into the future. It's good to see the club attracting some sponsorship no matter how small they are.
