Maybe. I would if I was him, Barkley's already missed plenty of time through injury, I doubt he wants to miss the best part of 2 years through injury.

Seriously, though, Barkley's better than Rodwell and there's more of an opening for him than there was for Rodwell.

The Guardian, Telegraph and Mirror are all saying we're going to go big Ross Barkley in the summer.

Wouldn't mind seeing it happen but I suspect it'd take a mammoth fee.

They were both definitely yellows IMO

Just watching MOTD now. It's not making Mike Dean look any better, Zabaleta's first shouldn't have been a yellow and Yaya should really have had a penalty.

Our best performance of the season (until Zaba was sent off at least). Nowhere near good enough going forward but the midfield was pretty good and the defence was even better, Mangala was brilliant.

Not 100% sure if the red card actually was a red (I haven't seen any replays yet) but Mike Dean had a shocker overall. The only thing to really annoy me about that game.

I think he and Herrera are going to be massive for us. They both ran midfield today extremely well and Blind just went about his business very quietly shielding the defence and letting Herrera push further forward. Might have only been QPR but it was a good performance and should build some confidence for next weekend away to Leicester.

Daley Blind reminds me of a younger, slightly quicker Dutch version of Gareth Barry. Understated, versatile and efficient.

Oh no, I agree with that. I don't think you have a bad squad I was just disagreeing with the comment it was significantly better than Chelsea's, for example, and a case of your good squad vs Chelsea's good first XI.

Ah, fair enough then. Our squad definitely isn't significantly better than Chelsea's. It's pretty equal really.

True, but I'm not sure 'we'll just play a different formation if we get injuries' is hugely indicative of having good squad depth. It's the opposite, probably. No doubt thats what you would do, but its the dearth of squad options that would force it.

I don't think it's a case of that though. Pellegrini has regularly played 4-2-3-1 in the past and our youth teams all play 4-3-3. I think we'll be changing formation on a more permanent basis. That's not to say we necessarily have great squad depth, as I said we are weak in central midfield and arguably at left-back too but the weaknesses aren't that great. They're easily comparable to Chelsea's lack of depth at centre-back for example.

Its 3 strikers for two positions and ones injury record is abysmal and the other (Jovetic) is fairly untested in the league.

Lampard will go in January (and also isn't very good anymore on todays showing), and with Yaya, and both Ferns for the two midfield positions with Milner covering they could probably do with another body there.

The big question mark is will Fabregas do his traditional disappearing act from January onwards at Barcelona and if he does if they'll cope.

You're assuming Pellegrini will stick with the 4-2-2-2 all the time, there's no guarantee of that at all. We are definitely light in central midfield though, I suspect we'll make a rare January purchase for a new centre-mid.

Get rid of the thing in my opinion. I loved when Chelsea were bought by Abramovich and loved when City started spunking millions and finally challenged/surpassed United on the pitch.

I'm not against financial reforms; they are needed but they shouldn't be designed to safeguard the big clubs the way FFP is, and there should probably be some provision for the clubs with hundreds of millions in debt hanging over their heads.

i just don't understand if Man City have broke the rules by buying their success like they pretty much have done, and UEFA announced plans to try and combat that - they'd bend them to allow Man City to buy more success.

It makes no sense.

My understanding was that FIFPro (the players union) were threatening to stick their noses in. Presumably over the effect it would have on their members who aren't at fault for any of this.

I can't see FFP lasting a long period of time.

Fingers crossed. In its current state FFP is a disgrace.

Tbf Joe Hart was fantastic once upon a time!!

Aye but not for a while. He's been on a downward spiral since the Dortmund game in 2012.

Haha. I'm almost offended that you'd think I thought Joe Hart was that good.

Thibaut on the other hand, he's fucking brilliant.

Because he's one of the best two central midfielders we have, comfortably. Not his fault he's being played completely out of position.

Meh. He's basically a central midfield version of Rooney. Lots of passion and aimless running.

There's no way Juve would pay enough for Mata. They're stingy fuckers, they'd want to loan him with an option to buy him on the cheap.

This. Although I didn't know until recently he was a CM before moving to Madrid.

Yeah, I wasn't aware of it until recently either. That said even if he hadn't, the fact he's done it with great success for both Madrid and Argentina should be proof enough that he's not wasted there.

Hes a winger though. Playing centrally basically wastes his pace and nullfies the attacking threat a bit. Yeah hes good on the ball and can pass it well, but throw him on the wing, let him run at the defender and hell cause trouble all game

Yeah, that's complete bullshit though. He's played centrally for Madrid, Argentina and Benfica. He's probably played there for Rosario Central too.

A bit of a risk now for City with Aguero and Jovetic suffering injuries regularly last season. Expect them to have a striker lined up for the summer maybe even January if needs be.

No chance of us signing a striker in January. Maybe a midfielder not a striker.

Don't see it.

I there's more chance of a new midfielder and a change in formation. We could easily switch to a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 (which all of our youth sides use and Soriano and Begiristain are fans of).

Saw somebody on bluemoon suggest that the 'personal financial matter' was a tax issue in Spain. It's probably not true but it sounds plausible at least.

Always amazed how people think Sturridge was a punt. Saw him play for Bolton and Chelsea and he looked exactly the same player as he is now. I was 100% confident that one would be a success.

He's definitely improved since then but I agree on the first point. It didn't seem like a particularly big gamble at the time and it definitely doesn't with hindsight.

I thought Zuculini was back in January? Lined up perfectly with the ACON (and Lampard leaving) wasn't it?

I'm also pretty sure Pellegrini thinks Demichelis can play in midfield if needed (not entirely sure he's right). We also have Navas and Milner (Kolarov will play left wing too I think) for a less 'creative' and more stretched midfield if needed

Nope. Whole season loan-deal. This is kind of my point, we have options but, when you start talking about Demichelis and Kolarov playing in midfield, they aren't really good enough.

Hopefully we're just saving our pennies for a massive spend next summer on Pogba etc.

I honestly think the 2 Ferns will start to partner up a lot more, with Yaya pushed up. Especially after Yaya's shitty start to the season (he's getting to be even more of a defensive liability). I think Jovetic was trying to hard the first few games to impress, which meant a lot of passes just didn't come off, hopefully he can settle. If (massive if) Aguero stays fit, Negredo will not be missed at all

Delighted Nastasic is still there

Aye, I can see how it might work, I'm just not sure it will. The fact we lose Yaya to the the Cup of Nations in January (along with Lampard) makes me think we might be a bit too stretched. It's worth noting that we've also just got rid of the two most qualified backups for that period as well in Huws and Zuculini.

The Beast was injured for like 3 months anyway. I'm guessing we're working on staying with 1 up front with Silva, Nasri, Jovetic behind the striker

He was supposed to be back for end of September or October. I'd be alright with that if we had more creative options but of those three, Silva is the only one who reliably creates. Nasri seems to have gone back in his shell and Jovetic whilst very creative is pretty hit-and-miss with his delivery.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't have a particularly good feeling about this. On the upside it seems like Nastasic is still around, so hopefully that means Boyata can fuck off as far away from the team as possible.

Pretty sure we made a profit this window... (If you count Beast's fee as now)

I'm not too fussed about Negredo leaving, it's more the principle of only having 3 strikers (2 of whom love the medical table). Huws however is fucking bullshit, really, really hope we have a buy-back

I'd be alright with Negredo leaving if we replaced him (either with another striker for the 4-2-2-2 to work or with another creative midfielder for a different system) but to get rid of him without even replacing him leaves a bad taste. I'd be shocked if we didn't get a buy-back and/or healthy sell-on clause for Huws, it's the only way it really makes any sense.

City? Or are we forgetting our earlier exploits?

To be fair given the our later exploits I'm not sure it can be said that we have 'noticeably' improved.
