Hey again! 

Three questions for you; 

  1. What kind of updates (if any) do you have planned? How do we get those updates? I usually just download a skin and run with it throughout the life of FM so I've never really updated a skin. Do we just re-download it?
  2. Not sure about the coding aspect of things, but would it be possible down the road to make it so that the skin automatically changes colors judged on the team you select?
    1. I'm very VERY new to coding. Just started it myself about 1 month ago or so but it would be helpful if you could release a quick youtube tutorial on how to change colors yourself. It's on the main video but I'd rather not mess anything major up haha
  3. Which color palette is the default one? Just in case I switch and don't like it? Baciccia - Blues?

Edit: This Skin ruined FM for me… every time I use a regular laid-out skin now, I'm looking for the most important information and it's a pain to figure out “How has the player been playing”. So you should add a disclaimer to this that once you start to understand and enjoy this skin, you won't go back to regular ones hahah

 

Thank you for the kind words.  In response to your questions:

 

  1. Yes, it's just a case of redownloading.  The version number will be updated, so technically you could have multiple versions in your skin folder, but I will always recommend against doing that, just in case there ends up being a conflict with some of the files.
  2. Club colours is very tricky, especially with the design style I've opted for.  When you use a club's primary colour as a background to a section, then you have to use the club's secondary colour for the text.  This is because you cannot identify if the club's primary colour is going to be light or dark and change the text on top of it conditionally.  If you view the Club Info page for a team such as FC Augbsurg you will understand why I decided against doing this!
    1. From a coding point of view, though, it is possibly.  Renaming red_replacement="mustermann3" (or whatever colour I chose for a specific element) to red_replacement="primary" in various places will allow you to do so.  These will be files like panels/player/player overview panel.xml, for example.  But there are a lot of files that will need going through, and you'd then need to also change colour="text" on the all the relevant text fields to colour="secondary".
  3. I doubt I will be doing any further YouTube videos on skinning in the near future.  My focus is to start playing and continue the content that has previously been on the channel.  That is not to say there will never be anything, but it is not likely to be soon.  
    1. In terms of changing colours, it is very simple - change the RGB value for the colours you want.  I have made the colour scheme very simple for this purpose.  The “mustermann” values are the main accent colours - often used for header backgrounds.  mustermann3 is the central value, the lower numbers are darker shades of that colour, the higher numbers are lighter shades of that colour (e.g. mustermann4 is lighter than mustermann3).  The “gimn” values are the complementary accent colour - often used for titles.  This follows the same rules, gimn1 is slightly darker, gimn2 is the central value, gimn3 is slightly lighter.
    2. After the theme colours are two more sections.  The first section is custom colours I've defined.  These mostly then refer back to the scheme colours.  I have tried to name them in a way that is clear what they are used for.  For example pizza_attack is the colour for the pizza chart for the attacking category.  The next section is colours already defined in game that I have changed.  This is things like attribute colours and form colours.  Deleting these rows entirely will revert back to the default colours used by FM.
  4. The default colour scheme with the download is Martyr - Blue and Gold.

What's the current thinking behind not showing progress arrows(or something equivalent) in skills (attribute groups)?

normally coach's could see X player has improved in their ball control.

 

  • It's not possible in the chosen layout
  • It's far too granular.  The arrows show attribute change of 0.1.  On a scale of 1-20, that means arrows are showing when there is an improvement or regression of 0.5%.
  • You can see broader progression from the player's development page

That's good to know.  I'll see if I can look into it, but might not be for a little while.  First up…actually play the game.  Then…finish off updates relating to the patch on Thursday.

I just wanted to say that this skin is insane and I really appreciate the work you have done. This skin made me realize that 2 of my starters, who I thought we're doing great, are actually not that good at all at the roles I've assigned to them. 

This skin really makes you look at players in terms of their performances and not just seeing green numbers and think “you're a starter now!” 

It definitely takes some getting used to as it transforms the entire game. I had my youth intake and had no idea whether some of these players we're actually going to make it, but that's how it is in real life. You don't get those numbers for your youth intake. You might say“hey this kid is fast!” But you wouldn't know he's a 16 out of 20 for speed. 

I think I will stick with this skin for a while, like I said it will take some getting used to but it's incredible once you're adapted to it!

Hopefully should be in the new year.  Light mode is approximately an extra 1,200 files at least to edit, so it will take a while.

@gimn85 hope you don't mind a couple of suggestions from my using skin

Contract expiry dates - would it be possible to add this date to the front/top of the player/staff profiles and also to the quick tooltip profiles 
reason being its useful information that now requires a click through to another page 

 

and this might be because I play in 1440p the kits at the bottom in match view look pretty small compared to other interface elements.

 

Suggestions are always welcome (I just make no promises they'll be implemented).

 

Contract expiry dates I'll consider.  These used to be in, using the piece of code that formats it as "[wage] until [date]".  I recall there being an issue between FM22 and FM23 with this particular bit, so I'll revisit and see if I can get it working.

 

I'm not sure on the kits at the bottom.  I'll consider, but I'll be transparent with my current thoughts: the kits haven't been changed from the default size, and I can't necessarily see a reason to increase them.  I play at 2560x1440 (when I'm not recording) and it doesn't look out of place to me, but I do accept that by moving the tactical options into buttons, I've increased the width for each player, and definitely confers more benefits to those at lower resolutions.

 

What I will do is send you an alternative file.  The attached xml would need to go in panels/widgets folder.  This moves things around to give more prominence to the kits, but you will probably need to tweak this further to your preference:

Hey @gimn85 this won't appear in our visual skins viewer or be properly shared on social media unless the images are uploaded via the upload screenshots option.

 

But I see you're trying to do something creative with the images you've uploaded that won't work as well when converted to thumbnails.

 

Could you perhaps upload a few normal screenshots so that the skin can appear elsewhere on the site?

CA, PA. and World Reputation stars/circles appear very small when you go below half a gold star and into the grey stars for some reason.

 

 

 

Correct, that is a deliberate design choice.  Something I forgot to mention in the video.  It allows a single visualisation to display current and potential ability in the profile for youth players.

 

For example, this player is currently 3.5 youth stars, with potential between 2-3 senior stars.

 

 

 

Whilst this player is 1 senior star, with potential between 3-4 senior stars.

For now, this is not my way of playing the game yet … 🙂

 

However, this skin is fantastic. From the ideas within it to the actual implementation this is for sure one of its kind! 

 

Thank you.  It is a very niche playing style, and I expect the majority of people who open this thread will have a very similar opinion (in that it's not for them)

Its just cosmetic: When seeing the teams right before matches you also see the last 5 matches. (win, draw, loss). The away team has an error there and get the home team last 5 matches showed.

 

Thank you for noticing.  I'll take a look this evening, but sounds like I might have just forgotten to change a single ID somewhere!

Yeah, I believe this will not be a common issue and I am sure you have tested this skin thoroughly prior to releasing it, given how meticulous you are. I use a 4K TV as a monitor, and I am sure it'll be very rare that someone else will be using the set of settings I use.

 

I am using 4K (3840x2160) as my display resolution, with scale set to 225% (can be found under System → Display on Windows). However, all FM skins I have tested so far (default, TCS, Sas24, Electric Panther) behave as they would on a regular 4K display (with system-scaling set to 100%), when the in-game zoom is set to 85%. 

 

Prior to switching to your skin, I was using Sas24 at 95% zoom, which only results in the bottom few panels on the player profile page to be cut off slightly.

 

Here's the in-game tactics screen, and it works as intended with the player names showing up. I also noticed a similar issue with the bottom panels for the 5-year plan under club vision, but this does get resolved when you reduce the system scaling.

I am not expecting you to release a hotfix for my pretty peculiar setup, but would really appreciate if you could take the time to re-create the issue and see if you can resolve it 🙂 Thanks a lot for the swift reply.

Here's screencap with both system and in game zoom levels set to 100%, and the issue still persists.

 

Thank you for going into so much detail.  That's interesting, as with those scaling settings you should end up with an effective screen size of around 2000x1200; so it seems weird that it's cutting some stuff off.  I'll have a play around and see what I can find out.

Not sure as to why it's happening but the tactics screen is pretty buggy for me. Not seeing player names and also the team mentality tab is showing up blank. Tried with 4 different zoom level and resolution combinations to no avail. Playing the game on Gamepass and using the “Cbristmas” config file for the colors, if that helps in any way 🙂 Thanks for putting this unique take on skinning, loved last year's version and what you have going on here, as well. 

 

 

 

Oh, that's interesting.  What resolution and zoom settings do you use?  For Zoom settings if you can tell me the game zoom level and Windows scaling level that would be great, and will help me try and replicate this.

The problem is I don't know anything about coding/programming though.

 

In my understanding there should be a basic preview of a 2d kit as the standard view in the line-up view and the kits for each team would be set to appear in this view via a dedicated config file….don't know if this would work at all, it would just be a neat little feature to spice things up 

 

these are the corresponding files but they were made for the flut skin to appear right next to the player faces.

I'm sure you can manage a bit of copying and pasting!!  I have faith in you.

 

If the version of the icons on the pitch in Flut is to your liking, then find that file - for Flut it should be Flut/panels/tactics/tactics icon info panel overview.xml - copy that file into Mustermann/panels/tactics folder.

 

Then reload the skin with caching turned off.

they normaly appear not sorted/ ascendingly sorted (first picture).

First of all: the skin is amzing and definitely changes the way I play FM from now on!

Not relying on the specific attribute number but on a more graphical and specific way ist both more logical and realistic.

 

But now to my question:

 

Is it possible to change the footed circles in the tactic screen to these 2D Mini Kits (view attachments)?

If so, how could I do that?

 

You'll want to edit Mustermann Iconic/panels/tactics/tactics icon info panel overview.xml.  Your best bet is to find the corresponding file in a skin you like and paste it into the folder.

It is considered a courtesy to ask other skinners for permission and provide credits after you've borrowed their work to include in a skin for public release.  I heartily recommend doing so.

Did you use the resource archiver to extract the files from the base game files.  Specifically there is a file in the Football Manager 2023 data folder (in Program Files) called panels.fmf.  This has all (well most) of the files for the base game.  In the standard Mustermann skins I haven't made any changes to this file, so that file won't exist in any of my folders - hence needing to extract it yourself, edit it, and move it into the skin folders.

Whilst the above specifically mentions FM18, it still rings true for more recent editions.

You'll need to use the resource archiver to extract the panels.fmf.  In here there will be a file called something similar to match/match score area.xml - you'll need to move this into the correpsonding file in the skin, open it in a text editor (such as notepad) and change the text size for team names.  

 

This is likely to be a line that starts:

<widget class="text" size="x"…

 

You'll need to reduce the number of x.  There will be two instances, one for the home team and one for the away team.  You'll then need to reload the skin (with cache cleared).  It might require a bit of trial and error as I suspect that file has multiple instances of text.

I'm still new to skin configuring, how can I change the numbering coloring on stats? For now it looks really blended with the background color Never mind, found the solution in the previous post. My only question is below this spoiler

 

 

And also, how can I install this xml? Changing the color themes seems neat!

How do I use the alternative colour schemes?

 

Copy the colour scheme you want into the [skin name]/settings folder.  Delete the existing [skin name] settings.xml file, and rename the one you copied over to [skin name] settings.xml.  Once done, reload the skin!

What do I need to change to get player faces instead of jerseys with numbers?

 

tactics/tactics icon info panel overview - it can be a little fiddly, so if you've not done it before, I suggest finding that file from a skin you like and copying it over.

Hello gimm85, thanks for making this skin, really love it. The only problem I have is the attribute color is kinda blend in with the background color. Is there any ways I can change the attributes color to another ?

 

You change either change them the normal way via Preferences → Skin Colours, or in the settings file (look for the bit that says attributes)

Great skin! What I'm missing is the ability to see which stats are important for each role. That is a deal breaker for me. Would absolutely love to use this skin if that would be possible to have. 

 

PS: Also, I noticed that Concentration is missing from the player attributes. 

 

I'm afraid the deal has been broken, as it is not possible to highlight stats in the chosen layout.  That said, by being grouped by training category, attributes are now arranged with the other attributes that effect specific areas.  If you're looking for a role that is going to be passing a lot (BPD, playmakers, etc…) the Passing group is important.  If you're for someone who sits back and reads the game, look to the Positioning group, and so on.

 

Concentration has been renamed “Focus”.  This is so the word fits into the space for certain languages.
