The more info coming out about Lampard's Man City deal makes things feel very salty with how Man City have somewhat manipulated the system on the sly.

Leicester have signed that Kramaric lad but talk is there's a deal in place for him to go to Chelsea in the summer. Something about Chelsea not being able to buy him then loan him out in same window so they struck a deal with Leicester

Wouldn't be surprised if there is some sort of deal with Chelsea involved amongst it all because a move directly to Leicester makes little sense, when in all likelihood he'll be playing Championship football in 7 months time. Secondly, moving to Chelsea now makes little sense either when we have Costa, Drogba and Remy. If the original reports are true, the idea was that we'd sign Kramaric and loan him out. He'd then come back for next season and effectively replace Drogba, who'd could possibly retire at the end of the season and join our staff team. Could be some logic to it all.

Also Mark Schwarer has joined Leicester on a free transfer.

Kalas I believe is going to be returning from his dud German loan and move to Middlesborough for the rest of the season. Nathaniel Chalobah also returning from his failed Burnley loan. While Borrusia Monchengladbach have made an offer to sign Thorgan Hazard permanently.

Transfer request for a wage rise? Only situation I remember is the Chelsea one, don't think he actually did put a request in, was more to do with the fact we were shit

Pretty sure he did hand a transfer request in for a move to Chelsea before having a change of heart.

I do remember there being a song similar to the below taking place after he changed his mind.

You put your transfer request in, your transfer request out
in, out, in, out and you shake it all about,
You do the Stevie Gerrard and you change your mind,
that's what it's all about.

What does signing Torres permanantly have to do with Cerdi's refusal to move to Milan?

What are you even on about? Cerci is moving to Milan, it's basically been confirmed by the player himself- with his excitement about his impending medical. Without Torres, this deal wouldn't have happened though because there would have been no bargaining chip to offer Atletico. In essence, it's all effectively a simple player swap/trade.

Being so bad that your team has to actually buy you to get rid of you is an impressive feat.

It's actually a decent business move tbh. There'd be no other real way for AC Milan to get Cerci without giving something back, so to effectively sign Torres to then use him as a bargaining chip to bring Cerci back to Italy, where he last played well, is a good deal for everyone involved really. Though, this is effectively Torres' last chance.

In a way, it's kinda like some trade deals you see in the NBA.

Liverpool fans deluding themselves into believing that they can magically turn Torres into a player again.

Realistically, Torres hasn't been the same since his knee injuries at Liverpool. There was always that hope he'd recapture the form he once had but that certainly long lost now. He doesn't have that yard of pace or acceleration he used to have that would get him in behind, which has resulted in his overall game having changed to adapt to this. While he's not slow, it's not enough to really cause a defender trouble if they're positioned well enough. That's not the say he can't be useful, he can, just not at the same level that his past reputation produced. He'd probably do better in a 2 striker system and at a mid-level side where the pressure/expectation to score every game or two isn't as great.

I do feel sorry for him, can't fault his professionalism though.

I'm not sure its that clear cut and its certainly not £70m so. Money which, presumably, would be put towards a signing like Pogba.

Pogba signed a new deal in October until 2019. So unlikely he'll be sold for anything less than something ridiculous.

I know we're not even halfway through the season but I feel as if we've definitely got enough about us to secure a return to the Champions League next season. We should get better as the season goes by under Van Gaal and once we get a settled defence I feel we'll be a lot better at the back. We have to secure De Gea to a long term deal, either to keep him or make any fee for wanting his services a massive one. Fellaini looks a new player under Van Gaal, Van Persie seems rejuvenated now and Mata seems to have found some form, very promising signs.

There's still plenty of questions to be answered though. RVP is certainly not the player he once was and it will be interesting to see if he can maintain the sort of touch he's found again. Similar with Fellaini and how long he can continue his recapturing of form. Mata is another who has been inconsistent and I still can see him being sold to help generate funds to strengthen more concerning areas.

Man Utd have certainly shown more than at the beginning of the season though and Champions League football is within reach once more. Development beyond this season though is still a little more unknown.

Kinda excepted us to drop points against Newcastle, it always seems to happen and we always seem to struggle at St. James Park. Chelsea lacked urgency once again, moved the ball too slowly and looked tired, which will be due to Mourinho's seemingly unwilling to rotate the squad outside of injuries/suspensions.

Really missed Matic in central midfield I thought and Costa looked a yard off the pass.

Pochettino was a fool to leave Saints for Spurs. Well, other than for his pay packet. Do Saints have the strength in depth? Arguably no, they rely pretty much on their upcoming talent to fill the gaps that Spurs can fill with seasoned players. After their summer selling spree you'd think Saints could spend just as much as Spurs in the coming window too.

I wouldn't say he was a fool, there was certainly more to him leaving than just wanting to move to a bigger club. Firstly, he was close to leaving earlier in the season because of behind the scenes unrest, while iirc there was some further issues re: transfers. And while it's all fine raising money, selling Pochettino's most important players without his approval was never going to go down well.

Let's be honest, no one expected this sort of run from Southampton this season after losing a number of key players who were big reasons for their excellent season last year.

This. Plus the sound and video quality will be shit. I guess most people do it so they can then bombard their social media with it, to make sure people knew they were there and that they have exciting lives.

Sound quality all depends on where you're located tbh. If you're further back or higher up than the quality of the sound can be pretty crisp and distortion free. Usually turns out crap when you're recording something from close and nearer to the speakers. Also, video quality tends to be good these days since most phones can record in 720p or higher.

England aren't a team that can afford to pick players on form anymore - you have to pick the best possible players regardless if they're performing for their clubs or not.

TBF though, has there ever really been a period of time when England picked players based on form? It's always been the same players picked, irrespective of how they were performing for either club or country. Once upon a time there were those who wanted mainstays like Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard, A.Cole, etc dropped for lesser players who were either in better form or would provide a more balanced system.

These days the pool of quality players England has to select from is dismal, so it definitely makes more sense to base selection on form rather than reputation. Even if it does mean selecting less talented players on occasions.

I really hope you're saying that to try and get in on the Rodgers bashing, rather than actually believing it.

Rodgers cost you points on many occasions with the way he approached games. The mentality of "well score more than you" was all well and good when Suarez was in the team and firing like he was, with the added bonus of a fit Sturridge to compliment. Not playing smart percentage football contributed to dropped points and such a dismal defensive record, particularly in that Chelsea game.

The start to this season further showcases these flaws in his methods of management.

Hmmm, have to disagree Sam.... He's got a struggle on his hands this season but came within a whisker of winning the league last season and gave Liverpool their most exciting league campaign (playing excellent football) for god knows how long.

Let's see how he copes with this tough period (looking at their next two games things might be about to get worse before they get better), but I think he's a good manager, although his summer signings can definitely be questioned.....

Liverpool's challenge last season had more to do with Suarez's sheer footballing ability than that of Rodgers managerial nous. Was easy to play attacking football when Suarez was firing. When it came to actually relying on more than that, Rodgers faltered.

Naturally, trying to replace someone like Suarez is basically impossible, but expecting a regularly injured Sturridge to replicate and exceed his efforts last season was always going to backfire. Rodgers has also invested a lot of money into average players who've ultimately not really improved the squad whatsoever. Along with believing he could summon sense into Balotelli to deliver on his footballing ability.

Now, most of Liverpool's hopes are pinned on a 19 year old Sterling.

Rojo won't ever be anything more than an okay central defender, his positioning lacks and he's too undersized. The only way to help cover this areas of weakness is to literally partner him with a bigger stronger centre back. He has the urge to try to nick the ball in front, similar to Luiz and also Carvalho back in the day, the difference is that they're both bigger stronger players who could also use their body if needed- Carvalho also read the game far better and combined well with Terry because each other covered the others weak points. A consistent partner may help, but no one Man Utd have in their squad is going to be the right sort of partner he'll need.

You're doing a great impression of a Liverpool fan there, Verse. Very one-eyed.

Pls, I'm hardly that one-eyed. One just gets a little tired of seeing the conveniently selective and ironic nature of some players/situations.

In all honestly, I couldn't even care. Doesn't exactly alter my life in anyway. It's just good to point things out.

Cheating on your wife with your friend and team-mates girlfriend is pretty bad.

Also, you're forgetting the charges he's had for things like assault and parking in disabled spots.

EX girlfriend. Which is often overlooked. Not that it excuses the cheating.

Again, not denying he's done wrong, he clearly has. I just find it funny that he's the only one actually ever singled out for any of it and anything positive he does is widely ignored. When you've got Giggs shagging his brothers wife, Rio finding it funny to call fellow black people "choc ice", hosted an unauthorised party were a young player was accused of rape, was banned for "forgetting" a drug test, and has now recently copped a 3 game ban and fine for his misogynist behaviour on twitter. Yet, all is quickly forgotten for those.

Ultimately, it comes back to what I said earlier, none of us really know what he's like in person.

Not really. He's a horrendous human-being, the fact he's also quite a good centre-back doesn't override that.

So you know him personally then? Or do you just believe everything that's in the papers (and that comes from Rio/Anton's mouth) as gospel? Which is ironic, since it's only ever the negative things that get the majority of the press and attention, not the genuinely good things he does.

Examples include;
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2207928-john-terry-gives-chelsea-shirt-to-fan-whose-mother-had-just-died
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2528923/My-Special-Day-Young-Chelsea-fan-meets-John-Terry-Roman-Abramovich.html

Fact is; neither you nor me know exactly what the man is like away from the football pitch. Calling him a "horrendous human-being" though is a touch over the top nonetheless.

Dowd having a nightmare. Giving up 2 points because of an overly defensive mindset when we should've walked all over them.
Not impressed with Utd at all.

Oh well. Still six points clear of City.

Robbed of a penalty for either of the 2 Chelsea plays held in the box from the same corner. We went too defensive, fucking annoys me as well when JM tries to settle for the 1-0 like we used to do. Should be pushing for a second to kill the game.

Utd were average though, nothing about them really impresses me either. Fortunate to come away with a point.

Good win for Chelsea. Didn't make the best start down back, Cahill got caught out a couple of times but once we got the goal by Oscar and settled, controlled a lot of the game. Second half was a bit one sided until the final few moments when Palace got a goal. Managed to see it out though so that's the main thing.

3 points.
Terry celebrates his 500th game as captain with a win.
Cesc scored his first Prem goal for us.

No real complaints besides Dave getting a red and having him miss the Man Utd game next week.

How do coaching badges and management style have absolutely nothing to do with football management? Surely that's a significant part of it which has been missing from previous versions of the game?

I didn't mention anything about such features, though I do believe that beyond any initial influence they'll ultimately provide little in the way of changing the overall game or experience.

As far as I understood it, coaching badges are purely an extension of manager reputation. The game is football manager, the idea is to manage a football club, so obviously I'd expect my manager to have the required badges to do exactly what the game is based around. It's not like you can take up other footballing roles and build up into a managerial role.

As for management style, again, it's something that will have a more initial impact than anything longer term. Your manager stats change as it is depending on what sort of approach you take, this effectively just separates it from that and makes it a more stand alone detailed section.

Each year the game just further breaks down particularly aspects into their own stand alone sections, giving that allure of more detail. Which is fine with some things, but a lot of what has changed either is unrequired or has been expanded upon too far and actually becomes more tedious as the game goes on. What made older releases excel and so appealing was the ability to jump straight in and manage a side. Now days it's become fiddly and it's getting to the point where the detail of it is getting a little beyond what is literally needed. Soon enough it will take you 1 real time day to complete 1 day in game.

Classic Mode on the other hand should literally be just that; a carbon copy of earlier FM days. With basically each new FM release just updating the database and implementing only whatever basic features that have been updated: scouting/search bars/etc. That way it preserves that nostalgic feel which drew everyone in to begin with.

Another year, another bunch of unrequired gimmicks really. The game is becoming more and more complex with too much emphasise put on the "depth" of the game, some of which has absolutely noting to do with management. While it might all be okay at the start of a new game, it all gets mundane and annoying soon enough and all you tend to want to do is skip past it all just to get to the bloody match and focus on the football.

There's a couple nice little features like picking languages, the new layout looks alright from a glance and the new scouting system is a nice change. I'm just not sure if it's actually worth the money because after a day or so I'll be over much of what bogs the game and experience down, as has been the case for the last few releases.
