Isn't Rooney's contract only up by £50k - from £250k p/w to £300k - with at least a portion of the increase bonuses and whatnot?

Even if that additional £50k is a standard wage it's still £70k less than Vidic's pay packet.

Apparently its the same £250k, but the United commercial team will work with him to increase the money he makes from image rights. I think it was the Telegraph that reported that but I'm not sure.

If you're trying to say that we didn't offer Vidic a new deal because we wanted to spend the money on Rooney, then I think thats bollocks. Other than that you'll have to elaborate.
