Winning back-to-back Singaporean League Cups isn't for everybody...

I'd personally stay with Hougang so you have a chance of getting continental football, as Albirex are ineligible, but completely your decision of course - it would be a step up in reputation, as you say.

A very good month, cape town seem to be doing okay especially if they win even 2 of those 3 games in hand!

Indeed, the great Benni McCarthy is the man at the helm at Cape Town City. Last season they were top after nine games (seven to ten played so far this) but ended up dropping a bit. Strong starters it would seem!

After winning the Top 8 Cup last month, we headed into November aiming to pick up our underwhelming Premier Soccer League form. What a great month. We will go into December full of confidence after securing top spot in the Premier Soccer League; though that is a little skewed as second place Cape Town City have three (!) games in hand. Still, as the old saying goes, I'd much rather have the points on the board. November actually started a little disappointingly as we were held by Golden Arrows, but we soon picked up strongly with wins over Ajax CT, Tshakhuma and FS Stars. Sundowns held us to a tie but it was a point I am OK with. Our Champions League group got underway with a convincing win in the DR Congo over AS Vita. Positive vibes.

December promises to be a massive month, with the pick of the fixtures being Cape Town City away on 22 December 2019. Bidvest Wits and Maritzburg United will give tricky tests too, I'm sure. We'll also met the other two teams in our CAF CL group - Horoya and Ismaily. Bring it on!

That was what awaited my team as we began the 2020 season. The off-season is about so much more though, I've been working hard to try and bring in players to help us, hopefully, improve on our respectable and above expectation 10th place finish in 2019. Let's get straight into it with the friendlies.

Game 1: El Tanque Sisley (URU) vs. Tabaré de Florida (URU) (Friendly)

Thoughts: Domination in our first friendly, we put six past lower league Tabaré de Florida with new signings Jonathan Castellanos and Brian Scalco netting goals.

Game 2: El Tanque Sisley (URU) vs. Cerro (URU) (Friendly)

Thoughts: The exact opposite in match two, as the country's third best club (based on 2019 finish) Cerro tore us apart.

Game 3: Alto Perú (URU) vs. El Tanque Sisley (URU) (Friendly)

Thoughts: Alto Perú were narrowly defeated here on penalties, pretty poor performance versus a team we should be beating - but at least we got the victory eventually.

Game 4: Centenario Uruguayo (URU) vs. El Tanque Sisley (URU) (Friendly)

Thoughts: Santiago Segovia's sole goal led us to the win over Centenario Uruguayo. Not much more to that fixture, a rather dull affair despite us being dominant.

Game 5: Mar de Fondo (URU) vs. El Tanque Sisley (URU) (Friendly)

Thoughts: Our penultimate pre-season friendly ended with a four-goal win over Mar de Fondo, Castellanos scored a hat-trick to take his exhibition match tally to five goals - strong beginnings, hopefully he carries on in competitive action.

Game 6: El Tanque Sisley (URU) vs. Defensa y Justicia (ARG) (Friendly)

Thoughts: Arguably our best performance of pre-season, despite the result. Argentine Primera División side Defensa y Justicia are a very good team, who we may have eventually lost to but we put up a very valiant effort. Castellanos scoring again was a major plus.

Recap: A real mixed bag of results, the results with Cerro and Defensa y Justicia show that - two top clubs, but two differing performances. I was playing a different tactic towards the end of pre-season, so that might explain it. I don't know what to expect from this 2020 season.

Seven things to share.

A: First up: Transfers. Right-back Milton Ramos, left winger Brian Scalco, forward Jonathan Castellanos, goalkeeper Juan Falchi (perm.) and forward Ricardo Bueno all joined. Goalkeeper Diego Soria was the only notable departure.

B: Back to last season, here's the season review - where we were announced as the biggest overachievers.

C: As soon as the season ended, I went on my second coaching course - which I passed just before pre-season began. Nice timing.

D: Here's the 2019 season's awards. Marcos Lyford Pike cleaned up, sadly he has missed much of pre-season due to injury - as has 'keeper Juan Falchi.

E: Here's the 2020 season's expectations. Same as last year, I'm hoping for that as a bare minimum. However, my current contract ends in June, so I may not even be at the club at the end of the campaign - hopefully I will be.

F: Diego Forlán turned me down, therefore choosing to retire. He could've added something for us, but if his head wasn't going to be in it then there was no point. Two forwards have been signed in his place.

G: Lastly, some exciting news for the club: a new stadium is being planned. El Tanque Sisley currently play in Florida but their spiritual home is over in Montevideo, where the new stadium would be built. Long time away, it seems.
