The easiest way is to promote the players you want to use to the main squad until they've played the match you want to keep them fresh for. There may be another way, but promote and then sending them back is only a couple of clicks and would ensure that they aren't chosen for B team selection.

If they do fix the one on ones going in with higher regularity, I hope they also fix the lazy long balls over the top where my CBs seem to refuse to react regardless of their instructions.

Would need more details to offer any meaningful advice. Who are the players occupying these positions? Are you using the standard Tiki Taka tactic without any changes or individual adjustments to player instructions? There's a lot that be the cause of a certain tactic not working for you.

My most recent save I thought my players suited a high pressure Gegenpress style of football, but after struggling to start the season I transitioned to a more cautious counter-attacking approach and we've improved dramatically. I still use the Gegenpress, but in late games where we're tied or trailing and want to get something going, but my players couldn't perform at that intensity for the whole game. Tiki Taka is a similarly demanding tactic.
